National Outage?

Woke up to dead internet, the local docsis connection fine, but routing problems inside VM's network.

Googled it and people reporting entire country down on twitter, plus cannot access VM website services from another ISP, they all down.

Yes it was very intermittent jo as most websites were not working at all apart from a couple of news sites through those time periods.

It looks like the worst is over according to the live news feed now.

Besides, it also had the hallmarks of routing issues as it died (and came back) in stages, hence for periods of time I could reach CF but not some of my other servers.

And, as usual, their dire customer service is criticised.

On top of the removal of the £288 cap for leaving before the end of the contract, on top of the removal of the right to cancel if they increase their prices mid contract, we see rwo outages in one day, appalling customer service and an inflation busting price rise

Not surprised people who can leave are doing so, they're being had for fools.

Google. Perfectly safe.

Remember that your ISP uses their DNS to filter your web experience. Not to say that Google doesn't but it's not so parochial.

Re: National Outage?

I use OpenDNS on my router with some filtering setup to block sites I don't think folk should use on my service. I also have setup DoT to encrypt DNS and DNSSEC to prevent fiddling with the information. It has been suggested that some ISP's will intercept standard DNS (port 53) to provide simple blocking of pirate sites. (I can make no comment on VM, I don't know.)
