Re: National Outage?
Could it be DNS issues as well as some trunks.
DDG seems down, google not :erm: Github seems down, hopefully they`ll sort it soon... Not posted here in a while :D |
Re: National Outage?
Yer I can see my BQM looks like that even though my VM connection mostly works.

I like many here do not use VM's DNS but still suffered the outages so a DNS attack seems unlikely.

Besides, it also had the hallmarks of routing issues as it died (and came back) in stages, hence for periods of time I could reach CF but not some of my other servers. |

Be nice to get some feedback from VM on the cause, and how they are going to ensure it doesn't happen again. We pay their wages.

Which DNS do you use and is it safe to use an alternative DNS than your ISP provider.

On top of the removal of the £288 cap for leaving before the end of the contract, on top of the removal of the right to cancel if they increase their prices mid contract, we see rwo outages in one day, appalling customer service and an inflation busting price rise Not surprised people who can leave are doing so, they're being had for fools. |

Remember that your ISP uses their DNS to filter your web experience. Not to say that Google doesn't but it's not so parochial. |
Re: National Outage?
I use OpenDNS on my router with some filtering setup to block sites I don't think folk should use on my service. I also have setup DoT to encrypt DNS and DNSSEC to prevent fiddling with the information. It has been suggested that some ISP's will intercept standard DNS (port 53) to provide simple blocking of pirate sites. (I can make no comment on VM, I don't know.)
