Favourite Christmas Song

I thought I'd start this discussion as well so it can run parallel to my topic about people's favourite carol.

Maggy has already started us off on this by stating her favourite Christmas song:

Fairytale is a very good one; personally I think Greg Lake’s I believe in Father Christmas is hard to beat. As part of my job at this time every year is trying to unpick the celebration of Christ’s nativity from everything else that comes with this time of year, I find his lyrics prescient, and the video is poignant too.

Another vote for Greg Lake.

His use of Lieutenant Kijé by Prokofiev is sheer genius.

At school we used to sing "Come and Join the Celebration"

Brings back so many memories..... And now I work in the school where I was a little boy so each Christmas the memories come flooding back.

I've just been setting the music and lights up in our hall for the children's performance.

There are just too many good ones. How about John Lennon’s ‘Happy Xmas (War is over)’. We live in hope.

Very true. Right now, I'd settle for peace in Europe.

Songs about Christmas are great but (and I don't want to stray too far from the topic) 3 local card shops did not have a single Christmas card depicting The Nativity. It's not everyone's cup of tea I know, but, well, it is Christmas.

+1

I remember a few years ago driving down to Cornwall at Xmas and in drifting snow on the Okehampton bypass this song on the radio. Much like the video.

Kind of taints them for me

Notice a Wombling Merry Christmas hasn't made this list which whilst disappointing is perfectly understandable

Re: Favourite Christmas Song

I take it 'Hey Santa Claus' (Kevin Wilson) won't be on many lists... :erm: Though it is a good song.

Boney M (Mary's Boy Child) for me. It's paired with a happy early treasured memory.
