Matt Hancock to compete in 'I'm A Celebrity'

Quote:

Former health secretary Matt Hancock has had the whip suspended after a source close to him said he will be going on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.

Mr Hancock will be jetting off to the jungle in Australia, reportedly as a latecomer to the reality TV show.

Chief Whip Simon Hart MP said: "Following a conversation with Matt Hancock, I have considered the situation and believe this is a matter serious enough to warrant suspension of the whip with immediate effect."

Mr Hancock was health secretary during the COVID pandemic, but stepped down after breaching lockdown rules by conducting an affair in his ministerial office with aide Gina Coladangelo.

Best place for him really. Shame the entire cabinet weren't invited.

Coprophages, not coprophiliacs - but, could be both…

He’s desperately trying to stay relevant isn’t he?

Think he’s realised his political career is finished.

I think the public will vote for him to do the challenges quite a lot which will be entertaining though

Is he going as a contestant or one of the challenges? I don't watch it so that's my knowledge exhausted.

I don't watch it normally, but I may make an exception and give Matt my undying support by voting for him in each challenge. This will give him maximum opportunity to get his "message" across, whatever that may be. That's why he's taken leave from his £60K job after all.

It's amazing he just decides he can take a holiday from his job like this. Even has the temerity to have allies (i.e probably him) brief the press that he can do this because he 'won't be in government anymore'. Shows the contempt he has for the job he has now. Complete chancer who only wants to be an MP if he gets a top job.

Here’s hoping.

He’s convinced himself he’s going on a book tour or some sort of political campaign but he’s actually taking a holiday during term time for which he is getting paid by ITV as well as getting his MP’s salary. Meanwhile back in his constituency he’ll be paying someone else to handle his caseload, then claiming the cost back from the taxpayer.

Utterly appalling behaviour.

Any MP who does this one would hope they would get their comeuppance next time voters go to the ballot box.

I don't think he'll stay for the next election.

It's possible in his head this is the first step of his riding back into front-line politics via public demand but more likely he has given up after not getting into the cabinet again and will instead try to be a celebrity.

Of course he doesn't even have a whip now

If there's a public vote to decide his PPE supplier against venomous creatures in the bushtucker trials then I'm all in! But it may be an expensive year when I vote for a pub landlord as preferred supplier multiple times!

Are MPs not allowed to take holidays or maternity leave?
It was ok for Gordon Brown to go gallivanting around the world. Check the register of MPs interests for 2010/11.

I didn’t realise Hancock was having a baby?

Couldn’t he have his holidays during one of the Parliamentary Recesses?

btw, nice whataboutism - strange how you mentioned Brown from over 10 years ago, and not Johnson from last month…

Really? I thought it was fair enough to call out an attempt to equate childbirth with appearing on an ITV gameshow.

Demonstrates the staggering levels of hypocrisy of where it's ok for certain people to not represent their constituents, 365 days of the year.
If it's perfectly ok for somebody not to be representing their constituents for up to 6 months, it should equally be ok for a few weeks.

Hugh 03-11-2022 10:00

Re: Matt Hancock to compete in 'I'm A Celebrity'

It’s not OK for anyone to do it - no one has stated that…

You need to go back to your day job of defending Russia and the Energy companies…

So where have others been severely criticised for not being available for their constituents?

You’re clearly off your meds if you’re persisting with the idea that maternity leave is in any way comparable to going on a TV gameshow.

Dorries was severely criticised for that and also not declaring the fee from ITV.

In fairness to nomadking here if Hancock wants to trouser some money and raise his publicity by doing something else then he won’t be the first (or last) MP to do that.

It’s up to the electorate to bin him next time out.
