What smart gadgets do you have in your home?
I'm always looking at ways to make my home smarter.
What gadgets or devices do you have in your homes? I have: - Wifi Thermostat on my 465 Litre Fish Tank. I have some expensive fish so keeping the water heated at the right temperature is crucial. This device keeps the temperature constant and alerts me to my phone in the event the heater malfunctions or goes out of the set boundaries. It can also start a cooling device if temperture gets too hot. - Sonos Speakers. I've put them in the corners of the room and find the sound quality great. I can easily stream music from laptops or phones to around the house. - Meross Smart plugs Got a few of these setup to turn lights on. - Security Cameras that send notifications to my phone. |

Re: What smart gadgets do you have in your home?
All my wireless smart devices are on my VM guest network. My thinking is it's an extra level of security to my internal network
3 4k TVs have Comcast's connected or built-in. All lights in the house bar the hall have Sonoff connected to Google Home. Reolink cams around the house & back garden Any item that's plugged into a wall socket, have TCP smart plugs again connected to Google home. Some things are still not connected , but wishing for upgrades, like washing machine, kettle and toaster |
We have a smart TV,a couple of them.....
And we have those Alexa things also and I swear a few times when my dad said "Turn off the lights" in that room,it messed up and turned my outlet in my room OFF that my computer is on... A couple times everything on this outlet has gone off for 2 seconds and then came back on.. (Resulting in a reboot of course) I dont like how it does that.... Its scary how it can control any power outlet in your house!! Thankfully he only has them in 1 room but it seems like the whole house can be controlled!! |

I also use the Youtube player though it does run out of memory rather too often and has to be restarted. There is an internet browser (Opera I believe) but without a keyboard/mouse interface it's not easy to use. I tried plugging a keyboard/ mouse into the USB port but it came up as unrecognised device. Given the OS is a Sony hybrid of Linux and Android it was worth a try. |
Re: What smart gadgets do you have in your home?
I ask as my TV is a smart one, but I have never had any use for any of the apps or functions it has. Because a Fire stick seems to do everything a lot better than the TV. Netflix, Prime, iPlayer works via the V6.
As for other smart things. Lots of Hue lights, a Harmony hub (totally underrated bit of hardware), 2 Amazon Dots (clock versions). Half a dozen or so Tapi plugs. All controlled via IOS (phone/ipads). A coffee machine that's wifi'd up if that's classed as smart, same as the Yamaha AV. |
Re: What smart gadgets do you have in your home?
I use my TV apps everyday. Amazon Prime video, Netflix, iplayer. My Sky box isn't as good for the PQ.

One strange thing is when I got the TV I did try Apple TV & Netflix. My TV is wired into an AV via HDMI but the SMART functions/apps like Apple TV etc the sound doesn't want to go through the HDMI to the AV at all. I tried via an optical cable from TV to AV which worked but it's always too out of sync. But with a Fire Stick, Casting, and red button or anything else there's no problems what so ever. Must be my TV (LG mid-range). |

Re: What smart gadgets do you have in your home?
Added a Sonos Sub Mini to my setup at Christmas.
Great little Sub that let's the other speakers handle the mid and top end and the Sub Mini adds a bit of punch and fullness to the sound. No vibration or distortion. It has definately given both music and movies a good sound. |
