enough worms aren't being named after women :shocked: :shocked: :shocked: :shocked:

Quote:

Parasitic worms have been sucked into the gender bias row after a report claimed the naming of the creatures was sexist.

Around 2,900 species were discovered during 2000-2020. However, of the 596 species named after eminent scientists, only 111, or 19%, recognised women, according to the experts from New Zealand's University of Otago.

And of 71 scientists honoured in the Latin names of two or more species, only eight were women.

Eight scientists who had lent their names to six or more species were men.

"We found a consistent gender bias among species named after eminent scientists, with male scientists being immortalised disproportionately more frequently than female scientists," said the study, published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

If anything, women are being over-represented compared to their overall contribution to science and technology over the centuries.

Re: More PC bullsh*t

Not massively sure I want a parasitic worm named after me anyway :shrug: isn't the obvious solution that more eminent scientists were men in the old days? I actually think touching 20% isn't that bad, wonder how many are black :scratch:

Name a parasitic worm after a woman and wait for the libtards and woke crowd to lay into that as being "sexist".

Which male politicians justify the term "parasitic worm"?

EDIT: ... and what female name would assign to each/any?

If you say a man is balb it is sexual harassment

Quote:

Calling someone bald at work is sexual harassment, an employment tribunal has ruled. Commenting on a man's baldness in the workplace is equivalent to remarking on the size of a woman's breasts, a panel of three employment judges rule.

Alll the more amazing because it is reported that the employee had been called a "bald c***". I mean, which is the more sexist term?

In general, if you are calling somebody a X...(usually descriptive in some way) Y... for a reason, as long as there is a reason for the Y..., then because the X... is classed as an ism, shouldn't make a difference.

If you get into an argument with somebody, then all sorts of things will be said. As long as the Y... is deserved in the context, then any X... shouldn't allow the other person to get away with bad behaviour of whatever sort deserving the Y... part.
If somebody who is X attacks you, and you call them a X... Y..., why should the X... matter?

Depends on the dominant chromosome.

Re: More PC bullsh*t

X and Y are commonly used as replacements for unspecified terms.

If you're calling somebody a bald c*** because you think they are a c***, then the bald bit is irrelevant and is not sexist.
It is a common language construct, to refer to somebody as a X Y, rather than just a Y.

Ah - there you have it.

"Bald" is an adjective. "C***" is a noun.

Let's pose a little teaser and say that:

Bald = N (gender neutral)
C*** = F (biologically so)
Victim = M (assumed male)
Car = B IBeemer)

Then how old is Aunt Lucy?

Think you've just proven why the claim for sexism was successful, bald guy, baldness is obviously disproportionately a male thing, the employer should've just called him a c***, that's factual judging by this case

As I pointed out, it is a common language construct to use two words. Whatever was or could've been said, wasn't said simply because the person was male. The adjective is simply something that also applies, eg being fat.

I've really got no interest in discussing this except to say if only you'd been the employers legal representative at tribunal, I'm sure it wouldn't have affected the outcome in the slightest

When I was learning some BSL (sign language) our teacher said that deaf people would also accept and give sign names rather than having to spell out names all the time. They tend to be very literal and names can stick.
If someone were fat when first met that person may get the sign name "fatty". Even later it that person trimmed down a bit some may still use the initial sign name.

(Note I haven't confirmed this other than what we were taught)

Just wonder how this would go down with the PC police?
