NBC News Now

Following the removal last year of CNN from Virgin Media, do people think that NBC News Now, which is testing on satellite, should launch on VM? I think it should.

It depends on whether you are left-leaning. I prefer my news channels to be neutral, but I think such an expectation is a bit pie in the sky as they all lean one way or the other.

NBC News Now HD is set to launch on Sky on March 7th.

---------- Post added at 12:24 ---------- Previous post was at 12:22 ----------

Virgin Media viewers can need to wait until Virgin deal with CNBC is up so Virgin can look to launch:

CNBC HD
NBC News Now HD

It is launching on satellite on Sky - but not on Glass.

VM users with V6 or 360 can watch it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drT4VUHvrNU

I hope they have some happier news than were getting from the other channels. Used to be a news junkie, but just can't watch any longer. I'm finding 70's sitcoms therapeutic atm ;)

Unfortunately, you can only report the news that is happening (well unless you are Russian State TV) which is depressing, worrying and just wrong!

Understand your position but l don't think you can really trust ANY news outlet at the time of war :(

Possibly, but some are more trustworthy than others.

I think it is understandable that things will be omitted from News if a country is involved in a war - as you don't want the enemy to be tipped off.

You can go to the other extreme like Russia and threaten journalists/people for even suggesting you are in a war.

One would hope that most news channels are providing a balanced view if they are in a non-combatant country.

All media were restricted (censored) during the Falklands war.

Hence the famous quote about an air attack by Harriers: “I can’t tell you how many aircraft were used, but I counted them out and I counted them all back in again.”

And we wouldn't even admit it was a 'war' at the time. It was the 'Falklands Conflict'. Bit like Russia refusing to admit they're in a war atm.

I think there is a distinct difference between British understatement where World War Two is sometimes referred to as 'that unpleasantness with Germany and Japan' and the line the Kremlin is currently spouting. I try to look at multiple TV news channels and reputable websites to get an idea of what is really going on. This is a luxury that does not exist for those living in Russia.

It's good that the channel is to launch on VM although from what I have read it only broadcasts live on weekdays.

Same as CNBC then. They'll maybe show non-News content too. CNBC has been showing 4 hours of US PGA golf highlights almost every weekend for years for example.

Just tuned in on Sky there to see what it is showing and it is showing Sky News (international)

Just an observation on the Sky News International simulcast on NBC News Now

The picture is HD but not full HD the new ticket seems to be jumping, almost as if they are sourcing it from the YouTube feed which actually looks better.

Re: NBC News Now

US stuff is often in 720p/24Hz - which may be causing an issue.

Sky News International is streamed live as a part of NBC's Peacock service.

Indeed, and those highlights are of the PGA Tour. They also show other sporting events during their four-hour blocks each weekend lunchtime.

CNBC does show NBC's Sunday political programme Meet the Press on Sundays and NBC News on Saturday nights.

By April.

I think it may launch as soon as next Tuesday (March 22nd).

On Virgin Channel 614 or Channel 627.

I also feel that CNBC HD may also launch.

I am "working" with NBC News Now launching on Virgin on any of the following dates.

March 22nd
March 23rd
March 24th
March 25th?
March 28th?
March 29th
March 30th
March 31st?

? means I don't Virgin Media will launch NBC News Now on that date,

Shame, especially if they can't be arsed fixing the picture breakup. It's affected on SD version on Satellite too, so it's not VM's fault.

just so i understand in america there is a channel called NBC News. The streaming channel is NBC News Now and thats what we've got?

ozsat 23-03-2022 06:22

Re: NBC News Now

No - the main US national news channel from NBC is NBC News Now and is the same as we get.

NBC News is a division of NBC like BBC Sport is a division of BBC.

There is a MSNBC too - which is only available on pay platforms in the US. This is mainly rolling news and not the mix of additional programmes you see on Now.
