Data Link

Hello,
I have a USB DATA LINK adaptor which Ipugin to a PC and transfer files from one PC to another PC. I am running Win 10 on both PCs but I can't get to work.

Has anyone else had success?

Re: DATA LINK

Does it officially support Windows 10? When was the last time you had it working?

USB data link devices (other than USB drives) are a pretty old school way of transferring files and predate fast home networks

Jaymoss 25-02-2022 11:42

Re: DATA LINK

can you not just set up a network share and copy over existing network?

Halcyon 25-02-2022 11:43

Re: DATA LINK

Are the two computers on the same home network?

If they are you should be able to share and access documents/folders on each of them.

How do I do that?

Re: DATA LINK

likely better to follow a tutorial than to ask someone to go through it here as it involves a fair few steps

Here is one I found on a quick google search

https://pureinfotech.com/setup-netwo...ng-windows-10/

You will need to follow this also to set up network file sharing in Network Settings

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkhuqPDhDH4

The video might be all you need as I quickly skipped through it

Re: DATA LINK

another option might be a USB drive.

Plug in, copy files to drive, remove and take to second machine, plug in a copy off the files. done.

No

Re: Data Link

That then would suggest a driver incompatibility or some sort of software missing. Does it show up as a working device in device manager

They say no drivers required, it does not show in device manager, no software supplied

What is the make/model of the cable, please?

Re: Data Link

I have no idea what a data link adapter is. If both pcs have nics and you haven't got a switch or a router so you can use a normal patch cable I would either use a crossover cable to connect both the pcs or a high capacity usb stick depending on how much you want to copy over. If you are looking at more than 250gb then it will probably be quicker just to pull the hdd and temporarily put it in the other pc.

Re: Data Link

out of interest, and before too much time is spent trying to get the USB datalink idea to work, how much data are you trying to transfer?

You come accross very aragent.

Yes I have looked at the 2URLs but as I have severe hearing loss I could understand what he was saying

Try this…

https://pureinfotech.com/setup-netwo...ng-windows-10/

Or this.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...1-80f9994725bf

How big are the files you want to move, and how often do you need to do this?

not arrogant frustrated with lack of acknowledgement that you have even looked at the info. The video could be followed step by step without hearing him say anything and the other link was graphical. Anyway networking will solve your data transfer issue I am sorry the cable does not work but without more info on the cable support for that is impossible

I will read those 2 URLs and I am sure they will help.

The size of the files vary, not very often

No offence intended here . .

Did you buy it on Ebay/Amazon . . . from China?

Just asking 'cos years ago a friend bought some computer bits that wouldn't work at all, and would cost more to return than they were worth.

bear in mind the first link is the same as one I sent that you said did not help so you are relying on Hughs second link with the same info to help you over my obviously unhelpful post

I believe they worked on previous windows versions so at guess would say it is a driver issue

As has previously been suggested, just use a usb memory stick.

Jaymoss 27-02-2022 15:39

Re: Data Link

There is a possibility the cable is a generic and there is always a chance all the cables use the same generic chipset so perhaps try these drivers https://www.driverscape.com/download...transfer-cable nothing ventured and all that

I'm sticking to this option as it seems your files are unlikely to be very large and the regularity being not that much.

Being this thread was opened on the 25th, and it is now the 27th, you could have transfered all the files you wanted to by now had any other option been followed through.

Get a USB (thumb)drive. It genuinely sounds like you may be spending too much time on something that simply is not going to give you any value over another option already listed for you. At this point, I don't even think it's actually going to work, so is potentially a complete waste of time.

Yes

Re: Data Link

I would find it easier just to upload the files to a cloud based storage and then u can access from any PC.
