Met police chief Cressida Dick to step down

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-60340525

Quote:

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick is leaving her role, it has been announced.

It comes just hours after Dame Cressida insisted she had "absolutely no intention" of stepping down.

Dame Cressida, who has been in the role for four years, has faced multiple controversies during her career.

Last week, the police watchdog reported "disgraceful" misogyny, discrimination and sexual harassment among some Met PCs.

In a statement, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he was "not satisfied" with Dame Cressida's response to the report, and that she "will be stepping aside" as a result.
Kind of surprised she survived this long. It was scandal after scandal. The report last week didn't tell us anything new but I guess pressure had to give.

I don't know what they do now though. The problems seem so ingrained at the Met and the cuts to police haven't helped the actual policing either. The new commissioner is going to have to fight a war on two fronts to reform the institution whilst improving its actual performance.

Long overdue no doubt with a nice payday.

Bit of a career ending job for whomever takes it on.

Getting crap from ethnic groups about them being targeted.

Getting crap from your superiors because you're getting crap from ethnic groups about them being targeted, which is leading to . .

Crap from the media because both the ethnic groups and your superiors think you're failing in the job.

Crap from those serving under you because you try to keep everyone happy instead of banging the lot in jail :D

Banging away many of those serving under you would be a start

She should never have had the job with that enormous cock up over the shooting of the Brazilian lad on the tube staining her record. Somehow I’m not surprised she’s quitting under a cloud. What I am surprised at is that she climbed so high up the ranks to begin with.

It will have to be someone very good and who can command respect. Racism, sexism, misogyny...'and the like' is so ingrained in the Met police, it will be no mean feat to rid the force of that.

The problem goes way back in history and it was even worse then.

He's untouchable, I'm sorry to say. Too much ethnicity in
London to disturb the political balance.

Interestingly, the Police Commissioner and Conservative candidate for London Mayor in 2021, Shaun Bailey, resigned from his position as chair of the London Assembly's police and crime committee after a photo emerged of him attending a Christmas party in breach of the Covid regulations at the time.

London is quite Labourish. They have a default advantage. The Tories need better candidates although it's been made harder for them with the direction the Tories took since Brexit.

Does London (or anywhere) need a Police Commissioner?

Seems to me they're just a figurehead and scapegoat for when things go wrong, and don't really know much about actual policing . . . and it shows :p:

'No faith' Sadiq Khan hell as major Met Police body declares no confidence in London Mayor

https://www.express.co.uk/news/polit...n-Mayor-latest

The Metropolitan Police Federation declared no confidence in the Labour politician after Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick was forced out of her position last week.

The body accused the London Mayor of "scaremongering" and "undermining" the trust in the police with his constant swipes.

In a strongly-worded statement, Mr Khan was blamed for using Dame Cressida as a scapegoat to distract from his own performance.

The Police Commissioner in London is the equivalent of Chief Constable in other Police forces - it’s not the elected Police & Crime Commissioner as in other areas (that role is covered by an Assistant Mayor in London).

Stupid thing for them to rally behind. She had to go. This is on the same day a Senior Member of that same Federation is facing an investigation for allegedly sharing details of an interview given by Sarah Everard's killer. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-60341306

Quite right. It's more jobs for the boys and wholly ineffective in terms of outcomes.
