Re: Neighbours axed

Well in this case, they would be replacing crap ;)

However, you should probably note the update ;

Please note: since this story was published, the original source - The Sun - have changed their tune. They now claim Neighbours is 'facing the axe'.

I could easily add lots more to that list, but there's probably a 10,000 character limit to forum posts :D

Loads have done well after Neighbours

Russel Crowe, Liam Hemsworth, Holly Valance, Delta Goodrum, Natalie Imbruglia, Luke Mitchell to name but a few and not including the obvious ones

A lot of soaps are like Mousetrap in that they keep going because they've been going so long. People still go to see Mousetrap because it's the longest running play in the world, everyone knows the murderer is .. put down that axe Agatha, and the gun, and the lead pipe ... <click>

It's not been axed, C5 have just withdrawn their funding. Probably going to spend it on Live Tiddlywinks.
I stopped watching when Bouncer the dog got the sack for taking an unnatural interest in Charlene.

Without funding, its axed.

Its only hope is someone else funding it, and they have no one atm.

Used to love Neighbours and Home and Away when I was a kid.

Looking at it now though I cant believe how bad some of the acting is.

Still I guess Neighbours got me through my teenage years.

Nothing can be as bad as when they rebooted Crossroads in the early 2000's. That was terrible!

I can see Eastenders ending, it's not the show it was that's for sure

Guy Pearce, the girl from The 100, Jason Donovan's Characters dad, that show has spawned some serious stars

Even the Australians stopped watching it a while back! If no U.K. channels pick it up, it’ll be gone by autumn.

and might the same happen to Home and Away if Channel 5 decides to drop this series as well?

Many of us watched them during our teenage years and people of a certain age might remember when Neighbours was only shown during the day and iirc it was Michael Grade's grand-daughter who suggested moving it to a tea time slot, which is what happened at the start of 1988 and it became a huge hit.

Incidentally, the first edition of Neighbours was shown on the day that the BBC launched its daytime television service - 27th October 1986.

If I recall correctly Neighbours used to be shown twice a day, once around lunchtime and then again at 5.30pm so you had two chances ot watch it.

The evening one was added once they realised how popular it was with children

Neighbours went out with a lunchtime broadcast and then a morning broadcast repeat the following day.[111] Michael Grade, the channel's then controller, was advised by his daughter to move the morning broadcast repeat to a late afternoon slot, as she and her friends kept missing it due to their being at school,[111] which took place from 4 January 1988.

A new series will start filming in Australia next year, after the production company Fremantle signed a deal with Amazon Freevee. A number of fan favourites are due to return, including Stefan Dennis as Paul Robinson, Alan Fletcher as Karl Kennedy, Jackie Woodburne as Susan Kennedy and Ryan Moloney as Toadie Rebecchi.

As well as creating a new series of the soap, Amazon have announced that they will be hosting the show’s back catalogue, giving viewers access to 37 years’ worth of classic episodes.

I give it a year before the Amazon show gets axed too.

I imagine it was just a good way to get a massive back catalogue for freevee and write off a few mill in tax write offs. I guess the show is relatively cheap to make with next to no special effects and just cast and crew to pay

Yep, compared to most of their shows, its will be peanuts.
I wonder how many episodes they will actually make per week.

The story lines and some of the Characters are just to cheesy. I used to watch it after school years ago but stopped when you could tell a story line outcome with your eyes closed.

Indeed they did, he loved it. Sadly he passed away from a heart attack in late 2000. :(
I got married in 1991, and didnt see him as much after that, so 1991 is basically my cut off point for knowing anything about it. :)

It will be good to see old episodes on Amazon Prime. Does anyone know when they might appear or are they likely not to appear until the new episodes start to be released.

There are some old episodes of Home and Away on Prime and those have been there for some time.

It looks as though old episodes will appear sometime in the new year, hopefully before the brand new episodes as I cab't see them arriving until the second half of 2023.

I believe that Prime Video will start offering old editions of Neighbours on around 23rd February.

It's on Amazon FreeVee meaning you don't need a paid Prime account to watch it, you just need to register.

The axe has apparently fallen again.

Amazon are saying it will be "rested" from the end of the year.
The majority are taking that to mean its not going to come back.

Re: Neighbours axed

The show has had it's run and now needs to be laid to rest.
