Same here in Northampton. Happened at 11am.
Initially thought it might've been the CityFibre cable installation that going on in my road at the moment.
VM website unavailable and Virgin TV Go not working as an alternative.

Affecting areas at least 150 miles apart?

It seems to be a national failure, so who knows where the actual location of the fault lies. It was just a guess.

However, it does seem unlikely to be related to the Red Bee Media incident responsible for the original, multi-platform failure.

nomadking 02-12-2021 12:09

Seeing as it's not possible to get info from VM via phone or their website, it would be useful for info to be posted outside of VM systems, eg here.

A fire suppressant issue at Langley perhaps? The issue probably needs a new thread but the TV Outage thread has been closed for some reason.

Our TV is down in Lincoln, just like the rest.

So do I presume that VM only got 1 major distribution center, where all the signals come in? as VM are classing it as National outage.

Issue with TV services

(Updated at 13:45)

We’re working hard to fix the issue impacting our TV services.

We have now restored several channels with customers able to watch BBC One, BBC Two, ITV, ITV+1 and Channel 4. TV360 customers are also able to access apps on their box.
We’re working to restore all channels as quickly as possible and continue to work towards having this resolved this afternoon.

Ok, Channel 4 SD (104) works.

It is a strange choice of thread considering there are still on-going issues from the Red Bee Media incident which can't really be posted here now that the thread has gone off-track.

I guess some of the issues with HD channels are possibly because encryption has been turned on again? The boxes don't seem to recognise that they should be authorised to view the service.

104 - Channel 4

Another update from VM (https://www.virginmedia.com/help/outage)

(Updated at 15:30)
Engineers are on site working to restore TV services after a major power outage.
We are currently attempting to restore more channels. As we do this, it may mean customers temporarily lose access to previously restored channels.
We recognise this is frustrating for customers and apologise again for the inconvenience caused. We are doing everything we can to get services back as quickly as possible.

"Update: 3:30pm

We're still working to restore the channels, you may lose access to BBC1, BBC2, ITV, and Channel 4 whilst we perform some patching work. After this work is done we'll start to bring groups of channels back online in clusters.

It might not be that random, each multiplex tends to be made up of a real mixture of channels from all sorts of broadcasters, genres, popularity and package levels.

I'm not sure if Crime & Inv HD ever got the slate, it was just a black screen when I checked. I mentioned the Asian channels when I commented that the channels had been restored. Yeah, I think the original check for content was simply a manual check through the channels, so missing channels not in subscribed packs weren't picked up. A later check looked for static video rates and / or absent video / audio streams, so was more comprehensive. A long day indeed.

Both being Scotland specific configurations. It's always a good idea to mention or report any problems with regional variations as any problems are less likely to be detected outside the specific area.

yeah , main headend moved over to a DR headend to restore service , the encryption changed to a different key server which needed a kick . So the broadcast was all good but no one could descramble anything and we couldn't put the services out in the clear unfortunately, this was kicked around 6-7 pm if i remember correctly

In my opinion yes , its fast and slick so channel surfing isn't sluggish , even makes the new V6 look slow , has a voice remote so you can shout "BT sports2" and it will go straight to it . Same channels though , just a faster box.

360 is night and day to the Tivo system, although there are a few features from the Tivo system not present which is covered in other threads on the forum.

It has the HD channel swap if you package has a particular channel in HD it is swapped to the higher number (Except for Channel4 outside London) but a lot cleaner interface and less menus to have to navigate.

My household much prefer 360

I can't comment officially , but I would guess Ch4 will be sorted in the next 6 months

What still isn't resolved?

Sorry, I missed this when you posted. It's a process, C4 started moving back in the second half of November with various changes taking place over a couple of weeks. At the end of November, C5 started their migration back to RBM, turning the DR logo back on for services from their back up facility. As far as the public is concerned, that's the bulk of services back to where they should be. As I said though, it's a process. Fine tuning of the systems continues and the enormity of the problem means that work schedules for the broadcasters have been torn up and rewritten several times. Hopefully, there won't be any further significant issues. If there are, it's handy to be able to report them in the original thread.

yeah , main headend moved over to a DR headend to restore service , the encryption changed to a different key server which needed a kick . Thanks for that information. Services being restored with 1 month old data was a good indication of being moved over to DR. Yeah, boxes being unable to decrypt was quite a nightmare for a while.
