Could VHS make a comeback?
I always felt that VHS was a good format. It worked well. However, the DVD and the PC has seen VHS all-but disappear and I believe that VHS machines are not longer being produced.
Other analogue formats have made a comeback so could VHS return? |

Landfillled VHS tapes are the only thing keeping London above sea level - fact.

Bit like your rediculous cassette return thread. Neither will happen. |

I love analogue so when there is a movie I want and I want it in unmolested analogue,I look for the earliest copy I can get of it.... These are a few I have 1) Wizard of OZ (1939) - 1980 release 2) Casablanca (1942) - 1981 release 3) African Queen (1951) - 1979 release (FIRST RELEASE) 4) 48 Hrs (1982) - 1983 release (First release - Newer ones look horrible) 5) BUS STOP (1955 I think) - 1978 release 6) Assault on precinct 13 (1976) - 1978 release Alot of this depends on if the person took care of the tape. People are 1/2 responsible! You dont find a VHS tape from that early in good condition very often.. (Especially if it was a rental) |
Re: Could VHS make a comeback?
Why on earth would people want VHS back?
- Everytime the tape goes over the heads it is destroying the tape. Quality gets worse. - Who wants to wait for the tapes to rewind, fast forward. - They werent designed for HD TV, more lines than pixels. - They took up way too much space to store. I'd rather have files on my PC. |

Ah, well, each to their own! |
Re: Could VHS make a comeback?
TBH I feel the VHS is better quality than some VM SD channels

I’ll set them up, you put them away…:D

Re: Could VHS make a comeback?
I spent ages transferring VHS tape recordings to DVD. I'm glad I did, as the next generation of TVs had no scart sockets, required by the VHS players.

Re: Could VHS make a comeback?
I did the same with video recordings of the children when they were young, but converted them to .mp4.
(The recordings, not the children…) |

Re: Could VHS make a comeback?
Nope, will never happen. That said there is something that is lost due to the sheer amount of easily accessible films etc at a touch of a button, it is something that is hard to appreciate. Compared to getting the film you wanted from 'Blockbusters'...

However, there is no risk of corrupting your content over an SD channel! |
