I would be interested to see if they are still rated U (Universal - suitable for all) or if they have got round it because they are PG?

For that to happen they would have to re-submit the film to the various classification boards in each country. eg. BBFC in UK.

They don’t have to submit it anywhere to put their own advisory rating on it. This is entirely due to the way Disney classifies material on Disney+, not for DVDs. Having said that, the age rating hasn’t changed. In this case it’s the existence of the content advisory message that pops up after you press play that indicates to the app’s parental controls system that the film shouldn’t be available to a profile that’s been set up for kids.

The "funny" thing is, if they didn't do that, then sooner or later, the Daily mail would have the headline

"Child caught doing racist thing, says he saw it on Disney movie he watched at weekend"

This way, in an ideal world, the parents will be watching with the child and will explain that some things were "acceptable" back then, which aren't now.

If the parents think it’s ok for kids to watch them, just use their login avatar - not a problem.

I think that’s the idea. If they didn’t want kids to see these films at all, they’d not put them on the system. Song of the South isn’t there. They just want to make a point that kids should only see these films if their parents have made an informed decision about it.

If you are using these services instead of spending time with your kids there is something wrong.
We used to watch DVD's at weekends and take turns choosing but we'd watch together. It was rare that we would just put kids in front of TV and leave them to it and then we would help them choose and leave just that programme (or CBeebies) on.

I do like having the disclaimer and then showing the movie as it was. Such a better way of handling it than editing the old scenes out or not having the movie at all.

The parents can allow their children to watch them - they have the choice.

They also had that choice before this nonsense was imposed on them.

The latest from Disney.

Quote:

Disney is adding a content warning to some episodes of “The Muppet Show.”

The variety show started streaming on Disney+ last week. Viewers will see a warning label before episodes that may feature “negative depictions” and “mistreatment of people or cultures.”

An episode hosted by Johnny Cash in which he’s standing in front of the U.S. and Confederate flags is labeled.

Another disclaimer pops up before the episode in which folk star Joan Baez does an Indian accent.

A Kenny Rogers episode is also labeled because it shows Muppets dressed in Arab garb drilling for oil.

Disney said the stereotypes were wrong then and they’re wrong now, but instead of removing the episodes, they wanted to acknowledge the issue so people can learn from it.

Disney already uses the disclaimer on other films and programs, like “The Aristocats” and “Dumbo.”

Good grief.

They were not "wrong then", and arent now, Disney have lost all sense of reality.

Surprised they haven't changed the name of the company considering the amount of criticism levelled at the man, most of which seems pretty unsubstantiated or at best guilt by association

People had children during times of war, high infant mortality (and higher deaths of the mother during childbirth), before painkillers, during mass poverty and less accessible healthcare.

I am sure the next generation of parents can cope with warnings on their Disney+ content.

Ban all Disney films, they're all subversive. Disney himself was a well known communist. All that subliminal brainwashing of our little darlings...

I know what he meant but the point is still silly.

There are problems with the world but I would still think being born today is a greater win than being born at almost any other time in history.

Then why are the company making a deal about turning them "Gender Neutral" ?

Its complete and utter nonsense, Im quite sure no one ever complained about their names.

What next, a warning on toy story movies as well.

They have Mr and Mrs versions of the toy called Mr and Mrs Potato Head respectively. The range of toys, the branding for the entire range, is changing from Mr Potato Head to Potato Head.

General Maximus 26-02-2021 08:35

Re: Disney+ blocks kids from watching classic disney kids films.

Maybe they should clear it up to avoid confusion snd call it "The Potatoe Heads" which is plural and indicates there is more than one.
