Adobe flash Player
What does this mean, and will it affect my internet activity in any way, please?

Re: Adobe flash Player
Unlikely to have much effect.
Very few sites use Flash these days. |
Re: Adobe flash Player
Flash is an abomination that uses a ton of resources and makes websites more difficult to access for visually impaired users. I don’t think anyone will miss it.
|
Re: Adobe flash Player
There are still many sites that use it for mindless games.

Re: Adobe flash Player
Happy to hear there is nothing to worry about, thank you for your replies.:)

Re: Adobe flash Player
Flash on that version of Windows hasn't been updated for 10 years, so I wouldn't think the kill switch is in there either.

They are trying to remove all fun aspects of using a computer it seems!! |
Re: Adobe flash Player
No, they're actually realising that Flash is a horrible piece of software and everyone has moved on to much better alternatives. You just need to move on and start living in the modern era because soon you'll barely be able to use the internet due to using such outdated software.

Re: Adobe flash Player
I very reluctantly moved from a totally stable Vista PC to a new one running Win10.
Vista just made things so difficult as sites refused to open, software was unable to be updated, and some software suddenly refused to run at all. A few tweaks with Classic Shell, and Win10 now looks and acts like Vista (and is a lot more user-friendly in that mode). There are a few Win10 oddities that linger, but I rarely use them anyway. And Microsoft dumping Edge on my machine was met with my deleting all icons for it (it appears to be stuck to the PC like superglue). And, after using the flaky Firefox for a while, I returned to Opera which flies on Win10. |

Brave is also a good one too. My main is Vivaldi though on laptop and my phone.

But time marches on. Most of the extra features Flash offered over HTML are now offered by the browsers themselves, through HTML 5. This includes (AFAIK) games, but I think the people who would have been the target market for flash games are now playing much the same sort of games on their mobile phones, usually downloaded from the Apple or Google App stores. The market for web sites with a flash interface (some of which did look very impressive) has, I think largely been killed off by the various legal requirements to make websites accessible to disabled users, and the remainder has been replaced by CSS styles. There is also the fact it's no longer trendy to have an all singing all dancing website, with loads of bells and whistles. People want one that is functional and pretty.. Not one with loads of flash movies playing in the background and Midi tunes on every page. Then there are the thousands of security flaws. The black sheep of security was previously Microsoft, with dozens of vulnerabilities being found in their software weekly. Then ,they smartened up their act, and the hackers moved on to Adobe, finding Acrobat/Adobe Reader and Flash Player to be particularly rich sources of vulnerabilities. Acrobat and Adobe Reader are still needed, where as Flash Player has largely fallen out of use, so it's logical that Adobe cancel it, and devote resources to securing Adobe Reader. And it's only the Player that's going. Adobe Flash itself is still around (under the name Adobe Animate), and is primarily focused on HTML 5 generation. |
Ya its sad...... I have fun playing games like this
FROZEN BUBBLE: http://glenn.sanson.free.fr/fb/play.html (Java) and this FROGGER: http://tinyurl.com/n3zc2kw (Shockwave) and....... HELICOPTER GAME: http://web.archive.org/web/20030407215621/http://www.hurtwood.demon.co.uk/Fun/copter.swf (flash) |
Re: Adobe flash Player
No one called it sad. Just that there is better alternatives out there these days to Flash player that are much more secure and less resource hogging.
|
Can I play frogger on it?? (The link I posted above)
Thats not boggy or anything,it runs well :) |
Re: Adobe flash Player
Yeah, as soon as I searched it I found one that didn't require Flash.

Go for MS-DOS or DR-DOS, and if that's too up to date, CP/M :D |

I don’t have the flash player installed on my home pc. I did have it on my laptop (as part of home schooling my nephew needed to access a flash site) and computers at work, where it was, until this year, deployed by default as some of our internal systems required it. In short, it was a good technology, but it’s time has passed, IMO. |

1. You still have sources for where the games are. 2. You keep backups of the last Flash download to make it easy to find. But as the years go on it's going to get less and less..... Unless you get a bit more modern and flash games get updated to run using another technology. |
Ya I hear ya Snoop....... They always make things harder FOR NO BLASTED REASON it seems....
Its all very sad :( |

What Hugh said.

Re: Adobe flash Player
Dude111, you could try https://bluemaxima.org/flashpoint/
I think that had Adobe been able to get the security vulnerabilities under control, we'd likely have Flash player for a few more years yet. Sadly, they couldn't. Doing so would likely have required a massive investment, and when most modern browsers can do virtually everything we previously needed Flash Player for using built in functionality, Adobe probably thought they wouldn't see enough of a return on that investment. As for no reason, I think Hugh got it right.. Security should be a massive issue for anyone who even connects a computer to the internet. Disabling a product that is both a massive source of security problems and barely used by most people is, IMO, a no brainer. Personally, I can't remember the last time I used a flash website. The only computer I had it installed on (which has since been re-installed with no flash player) was my laptop. The only reason I had it installed is for home schooling. When they switched to home schooling in March, the school my Niece and Nephew go to required they go to one website that, at that time, still required flash. Thankfully, it seems to have been updated now. |
Re: Adobe flash Player
I was informed on my pc that my Adobe flash would have been out of date at the end of 2020 and to uninstall it, when I did this it came up with reinstalled ,
