Captchpa required all the time

Hi all,

I have recently started having to input a "I am human" captcha check into 90% of websites on 3 different browsers. Some sites do not even load properly and are unviewable.

Anybody have a clue as to why?

I have rebooted the superhub several times and restarted my devices. I have run the security on Windows 10 - no viruses. I use a VPN that is mandatory for my work. Could it be that? The issue arises both when connected and unconnected to the VPN.

Tearing my hair out here. Fed up of clicking on 4 images that all have airplanes in them. Ideas very welcome. Thanks

I would say it's the VPN, what happens if you visit the same sites on your phone or tablet without the VPN? I'm guessing it'll be fine.

It's the same on my phone and tablet - captchas everywhere. Is there a chance that Virgin have identified the VPN as a concern or would it be the websites themselves?

It's a headaches because as I say, my work make it mandatory for me to use this VBPN before I remote into my PC from home.

Re: Captchpa required all the time

I don't see how Virgin could do this. It's likely to be the websites. Care to give us an example?

https://www.avforums.com/

I get a page similar to this:

https://www.cableforum.uk/images/local/2020/08/4.png

When I go to mlb.com all I get are huge logos which makes the site unreadable - interestingly the mlb app does not function on my android phone either.

I have the same problem with a particular site I use and it only started when I installed ad blocker software.

I use a VPN and get more Captchpas than I used to without one. Sometimes even just using Google can ask for one. Which VPN are you using?

It's called Global Protect. But I only use it for about 20 minutes a day. The rest of the time I do stuff from my browsers.

Re: Captchpa required all the time

Don't know. AVForums doesn't do it for me. I've tried Chrome, Firefox, Edge and IE. With and without adblocking. And via a couple of VPNs.

Thats cloudflare giving you a capture page, not virgin media.

Re: Captchpa required all the time

Requests from VPNs might be seen as potentially more suspect, and so are subject to greater checks?

smallclone 13-08-2020 11:31

Re: Captchpa required all the time

Hi,

This cloudflare issue is now causing all sorts of problems with all devices across my network. Even my android phone has some apps that don't work because of this.

Is there any way I can stop it happening? Change some sort of IP address or something?

Thanks

I hate that bloody captcha thing, they're usually asking about US road signs/markings... I'm not a computer, just take my word for it, you bleeping computer !

Off topic I know but Paypal have come up with a new capacha thingy I haven't seen before. Just checked into my account and besides the normal "tick this box if you're not a robot" I had to manipulate a cartoon cat until it was stood upright. Made a change but I suspect it will become quite irritating.

Re: Captchpa required all the time

I only have the problem on one particular site I use and to further compound the issue it always asks you everything twice. You click the pictures with e.g. boats in and click ok and then it makes you do it again. I noticed a link on the page which said something like "why am I seeing this" and I clicked on it and was redirected to another page. There was a load of blab about antivirus settings, malware and vpns and there was a link to a browser extension you can download from the google store which bypasses it. It is called privacy pass. I am not a huge fan of browser extensions but I installed it and it works a treat. You can read more here:

That sounds like a good solution GM. Have bookmarked it is 'just in case'. I hope it continues to work for you.

I have signed up to about 15 job agencies, most have Captchua.

It is the biggest load of crap on the planet, as it uses US simplified English and asked for stuff that is impossible to see.

I keep getting Captchpa too.

It a PIA especially as it often does things like - clock on traffic lights - when it displays the crosswalk pictures.

As the General has said, privacy pass works. The ony problem for most of you is that it only works presently with Chrome and Firefox browsers and you all use neither.

Edge, IE, Safari and others really need to catch up on this.

Being a FF user I did this the first time it occurred, it is very rare I need to complete an hcaptcha now.

IE and Edge users should have received a notification ages ago to upgrade to Chromium which is the new MS Edge browser based on Chrome. The extension works fine on that and it is what I am using.

Not being an MS Edge user I didn't know that.;)

I use FireFox and do NOT use a VPN.

Installed Privacy Pass extension and see no reduction in the Captchpa prompts.

I am getting captchas with quite a regularity recently too, it's getting really annoying. I'm not using a VPN when it happens.

Are any of you using any kind of adblocking or privacy enhancing extensions? Noscript/Ghostscript?

I'm using an ad blocker on firefox.

Why would this matter?

I'm using adblock plus. Privacy pass works just fine.

If you click on the privacy pass icon it will tell you how many passes you have.

Why would this matter?

It depends on what you're blocking and how you're blocking it. I use uBlock Origin with mostly default settings and that works fine, but if you start blanket blocking javascript on pages, etc. it can make things like CAPCHAs pop up more often.

CAPCHA, especially more recent versions of reCAPCHA work on a sort of scoring system. It's a little opaque with how it works but the gist is that your browsing habits give you a score and if the score falls below a certain number, you get to prove that you're human.

Theoretically, proving you're human should boost the score significantly but if you're seeing the prompt a lot, then it implies something is affecting your score. Unfortunately it's not the clearest how this is done at all, but things like blocking scripts could cause it.

To be clear, I hate ads a lot and I block everything I can, so I don't think it's specific to using an adblocker at all, but I think there's more to it. If your browser is out of date by a lot, or you've been fiddling with the user agent for whatever reason, that could be affecting it.

I'm not sure about an adblocker or VPN affecting privacy pass. As I said I use AdBlock plus and quite often a VPN neither of which prevent privacy pass working. It is now a rarity when I see any captcha.

Oh, I wasn't talking about Privacy pass at all, I meant general use (without privacy pass).

I don't use PP myself and I rarely get CAPCHAs.

Sorry about jumping to a conclusion. As some were referring to PP not working I thought you were putting forward a possible reason why.

Same thing has started happening to me and everyone else connected to our VM broadband...

Can only assume some VM IPs have been marked as dodgy?

Kushan 07-09-2020 10:29

Re: Captchpa required all the time

Entirely possible, or there's some dodgy traffic coming from your IP. If you've got a trojan on your network sending out dodgy traffic, you'll get a lot more of them.
