Re: Prob with virgin tv and internet
Yep, I noticed my router switched me to my backup vodaphone connection about an hour ago.
Looking at my monitors, it seems my VM connection was offline from 17:18 to 17:28. ---------- Post added at 18:19 ---------- Previous post was at 18:16 ---------- Woah ... its gone again just seconds ago ---------- Post added at 18:29 ---------- Previous post was at 18:19 ---------- What a bizarre pattern, it was down 18:18 to 18:28. |
Re: Prob with virgin tv and internet
Yep my internet has been up and down these last 30 minutes.

Same timings here. Just as well I got a Huawei B535 delivered today I’m dropping off to an elderly, self isolating relative with no broadband. I can drop it off tomorrow instead. :)

As noted above, you can also get dongles that you plug into some routers to give you 3G/4G connectivity (again, you have to pay). I prefer my backup to be a solid landline connection. |
Re: Prob with virgin tv and internet
Just gone again. 3rd outage (17:17, 18:17 and 19:17) how strange.
|
Re: Prob with virgin tv and internet
Its gone again, at 18 minutes past again, there is a definite pattern here.

Its gone again here again at the same time but now its come back on.
|
Re: Prob with virgin tv and internet
Mine went too... reboot every hour to fix? Sounds like my kind of solution!
|
Re: Prob with virgin tv and internet
I rebooted the first time - but it came back itself the next two times.
|
Re: Prob with virgin tv and internet
Same in Teesside, I was watching iPlayer which stopped, then noticed all devices off. Been on and off since.

Re: Prob with virgin tv and internet
Having issues in Glasgow too (which ain't unusual for Glasgow ;) ) Tried to check my service status on line but that area is down on virgin site :)

Virgin Media is having problems in some areas
https://www.thinkbroadband.com/news/...mpaign=newsrss
https://www.cableforum.uk/images/local/2020/04/5.png I had a drop out last night just after midnight, then today's issues that seem to have made national news. Curious if anyone else has had that midnight dropout as well. |

Nope, they seem to have found the issue, nothing happened at 20:18.

Re: Virgin Media is having problems in some areas
We had a drop out at midnight but that was me updating the AX88U
Bit of a nightmare today as I have just put unbound on our network yesterday so I was thinking it was that so wasted most of the afternoon trying to figure it out lol https://www.cableforum.uk/images/local/2020/04/7.png |
Re: Prob with virgin tv and internet
Had slow loading web pages twice, with Chrome saying no internet connection, however SH3 remained on. According to VM service status page for area 30 (Teesside) it's affecting broadband and interactive services and should be resolved 28th April 00:00
There is a message from VM https://www.virginmedia.com/help/outage Latest update Time of update: 20:30 Our teams are urgently looking into the issue and will work flat out to fix it the moment the problem is fully identified. We know how frustrating this is and we apologise. |

And again here up in Fife. Was just starting to settle down and watch the new season of the last Kingdom as it hadn't went off for an hour or two.
Time to catch up on some old pirated stuff or go to bed. |
Re: Virgin Media Outages - 27 Apr 2020
And again...
|
Re: Virgin Media Outages - 27 Apr 2020
I noticed that https://www.virginmedia.com/help/outage seemed to be inaccessible during the outage as well, even from my backup connection.

Strange that some sites were working and some were not.

Re: Virgin Media Outages - 27 Apr 2020
At 9:17pm using Chrome Version 81.0.4044.122 - SH3 stayed on, had 6 browser tabs open, however 2 tabs went off, both tabs that went off were different pages on CF, the rest stayed on.
Tried to load isitdownrightnow.com to check the sites that wouldn't load, and isitdown was offline. Refreshing pages (tabs) brought up same pages that wouldn't load, however the working ones still loaded. Closed Chrome and reopened and all pages loaded. (9:25pm) |

Re: Virgin Media Outages - 27 Apr 2020
Some sort of core network or routing issue by the sound of it.
Wierd that its always about 18 minutes past, and lasts about 10 minutes (and also seems to have bypassed 8:18pm and now 10:18pm) ---------- Post added at 23:18 ---------- Previous post was at 22:42 ---------- Here we go again, 11:18  |
Re: Virgin Media Outages - 27 Apr 2020
Hehe I think mine was a little earlier. It resolved itself to some websites quicker (continuous ping to bbc.co.uk came back in about 2mins).
|
Re: Virgin Media Outages - 27 Apr 2020
Mine went down again at 23:18. years ago i phoned NTL up up and said my BB keeps going down at 6pm. He said it was impossible. He phoned me up before 6 and said i am watching. It went down at 6 and he swore. been fine ever since tonight

Re: Virgin Media Outages - 27 Apr 2020
I was affected and am posting this as a customer, I don't (yet) know what the problem was.
The line seemed mostly stable as my VPN remained up apart from 1 glitch but router reported internet down and browsing didn't work or at least didn't seem to but some computers in house remained OK until tried to get to new site. To me this looks like something related to DNS (not VM's DNS as I don't use it) or starting new connections. It impacted by browser on VPN too. Using nslookup - DNS on router (OpenDNS failed) but setting server to say Google DNS and things worked or at least resolved. $ nslookup nslookup> www.bbc.co.uk <can't contact server> nslookup> server 8.8.8.8 nslookup> www.bbc.co.uk <resolves> nslookup> <router> nslookup> www.bbc.co.uk <can't resolve> |

It shows clearly on my BQM at the times posted by other members but it didn't seem to affect my browsing session or the TV. Suggests it was only affecting parts of the network.

My 350mb broadband only came back late this morning.
Uploads speeds were < 1 mb and download was up and down. What was the issue? |
Re: Virgin Media Outages - 27 Apr 2020
My connection went down again around 10 minutes ago.
With so many employees working from home relying on critical infrastructure such as Disney+ right now, I hope it gets sorted soon! 😉 |

The network can be tolerant of some faults, but only really "expected" ones like power failures and cut fibres. Weird software behaviour is much harder to anticipate. It can sometimes be handled with watchdogs etc, but they don't tend to be seamless. (That may well be what happened in this case, given that it recovered within 10 minutes after each failure) |

It's happening again - I'm losing interest access every 15 minutes or so, and the V6 box is losing connection at the same time - happened 3 times in the last 40 minutes.

Re: Virgin Media Outages - 27 Apr 2020
No issues here, either. Would love a report as to what the issue was on the 27th though, especially given how widespread it was.
|
Re: Virgin Media Outages - 27 Apr 2020
It'snot been that bad here in Cardiff lately but today has been a nightmare. It feels like it is fine for 2 or 3 minutes then drops for 30 seconds.
I would think of tethering my smartphone but my 4G coverage is awful. |
Re: Virgin Media Outages - 27 Apr 2020
This is like every Friday around 6:00-7:00 onwards. Is it on a timer? My son gets his online gaming orders for the weekend at this time and it’s screwed him 2-3 weekends on the trot.
