Irish Curry Sauce

A local chippy here in Cardiff has added this to their menu.

When I asked what it was, they just told me "It's what it says on the packet".

Any deeper insights into what it is?

It's a very tasty "Chipshop curry". The chippy across from me has been selling it for a few years now.

Ooh, the much-maligned MSG E621 :D

I can get "normal" Dinaclass suace mix here, so I'll have to ask the retailer if he can get the Irish version.

Another forum has suggested " If it's not McDonnells, it's cr@p".

Cheers all! :tu:

My Cuz over there says he will bring these over for me next time he visits :D

He says "it's a lot different to what you're used to".

It's more like a roux than a traditional curry. Similar to the type of gravy used to make Japanese curries. Slightly sweet and not overly spicy.

I think I'll give it a go. My pampered palate likes new things (sometimes).

Nip to the chippy and get curry and chips. A cheap way to try it.

Is this just chip shop curry, or is it something else?

Ah right, I’ve been lurking on the thread for days now wondering what this new delicacy might be. I’m surprised to learn it’s considered “new” in Cardiff ... I know chip shops have a little more regional variation than most people generally realise but I really did think chip shop curry sauce was a universal.

Chip shop curry sauce is a staple here, but seeing one described as "Irish" intrigued me.
