Open Settings app by clicking its icon in Start menu or pressing Windows logo + I keyboard shortcut. Click on Accounts. Click Sign-in options in the left hand side, and then select Never for the “Require sign-in” option if you want to stop Windows 10 from asking for password after it wakes up from sleep.

This happend to me also years ago when the guy came from the cable company to install our first modem for the cable internet... I hated it!!

I called a friend of mine who is an IT person and he said to goto control panel/Network and remove what the guy put on "CLIENT FOR MICRSOFT NETWORKS"

I did and im thankful!! (Im on Win98se (My favourite OS))

Caroline: I hope what TAF posted worked for you :)

I hope you aren’t connected to the Internet with Win98SE...

He is, I believe IE6 is his favourite browser and he won't use a site that isn't optimized for it.

Dude111 12-04-2020 12:09

Hmmmm is it still doing that??

I wonder if you can do what I did to remove it??

I dont know much about Win10 .. Do you have a NETWORK folder in control panal mate and if you do,whats in it?? (You might be able to disable password logon there)

Press the start menu, type in "netplwiz". Open the program that comes up. You should see an option to turn off the password on start up. Press apply and OK to save. That should do it.

When you deselect the Require Password box, it will ask you to enter your present password and enter a new one. Do so, but leave the new password box empty.

I am running Win 10and running netplwiz does not give me the option to turn off the password at start up.

its a real pain having to remove the passwords on three PCs just because microsoft decided to screw up the update to insist on a password.

Dude111 13-04-2020 12:19

If you change the password to nothing it doesnt disable it?? (Leave it blank)

Try doing this :)

Open Settings.
Click Accounts.
Click on Sign-in options.
Under the "Password" section, click the Change button. ...
Type your current account password.
Click the Next button...
Skip the password creation to remove the password entirely...
Click Finish.

I used to remove the password, but now i just changed the password to a 4 digit pin number, i would rather do that than have any tom dick or harry be able to access the PC.

Dude111 13-04-2020 12:53

Hmm is your computer not in your house where only family can get to it? (Or maybe you dont want even them booting up :))

It is in my house, I would rather put a simple pin on it that takes me seconds to enter, that seems pretty sensible to me unlike someone that will still want to run Windows 98 in 20 years time! Lol

Dude111 14-04-2020 15:39

No no its OK mate.....

My task manager has a password option if it goes to screen saver and one time I forgot what the password was!! (I had to reboot) I had forgotton what I set it to......

I went into the registry and deleted the password.........

Because of how Win 10 works and your account isn't local, I would have thought you would be required to sign in with your account password or a created "pin" and there wouldn't be an option for auto logon like in previous versions.
