Aldi have quite a good range in stock at reasonable prices, i don't mind firework sales as i'm not a miserable old git, even if i am old i'm a happy old git.

Why? as fireworks have been a enjoyable part of Bonfire night when usually properly by responsible adults.

I'm not miserable, far from it :) Organised events are much better, and it stops the little scrotes from lobbing fireworks around the streets.

If only it was Bonfire Night, and not days and nights both before and after. Then someone's birthday, a BBQ party, a footie match, etc., etc.

It's possible to plan to avoid the (ever increasing) bangs on Bonfire Night, but not when they are happening willy-nilly all year round.

Our council banned garden bonfires to help asthmatics, but no chance of them banning fireworks for those with pets, autism or PTSD.

To be honest, considering the price of the damn things I'm surprised anyone but the Government can afford the things . . and they only used about 100,000 of them for the last New Year bash in London :rolleyes:

Come live round here and I put my bank balance on the fact you'll change your mind. I love fireworks but they get into the wrong hands very easily and then they cause havoc. Thrown at cars and windows, into windows causing a fire and even at a police van. This just doesnt happen 1 or 2 weeks before bonfire night, it happens in September and even August.

The cigarette section is usually manned all day, next to the lottery and customer service desk. The same cant be said for the cabinet with the fireworks in.

Last year, one got set off and put through an open house window in July. They start around September here.

Where I moved to, last year, they had a large Bonfire and Firework event on a large sports field, behind a hill in view of my front bedroom window, it was a ringside seat to a glorious filled firework session, didn't have to leave the house and never paid a penny to watch.

Come live here, you'd soon change your mind. There is plenty of events, a lot free around the week of the 5th around the country. There is no need to sell explosives to the public and that's coming from someone who loves fireworks. Ask the emergency services what they think should happen to fireworks. I've personally seen one been shot at a police van, I nearly called 999 then realised who do you actually call when the police are on the receiving end of it. One got put into someone's open window which caused a fire too.

If not a full ban then make it so hard to buy some that it becomes a chore to buy them and hopefully that takes away most of the trouble makers. It's got nothing to do with a nanny state and just what makes sense and in fact they aren't even banned, a private company have stopped selling them, so not sure how you come to the conclusion of a nanny state.
