Satirical puppet show Spitting Image hopes to return to the small screen, 23 years after it last aired.

New episodes of the comedy, described as "public service satire" by co-creator Roger Law, will take on Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, among others.

"It's pretty chaotic out there. As far as I'm concerned, it's better than shouting at the television set," he told the Guardian.

A pilot for the resurrected show has already been filmed, Mr Law added.

The pilot will also feature the Duchess of Sussex wearing a glittery top with the word "Princess" printed on the front.

Fingers crossed that it happens..I'm looking forward to it.

I thought that it already had returned tbh. It's on the Parliament channel several hours a day.

Indeed fingers crossed as there is nothing like good public service satire.

Quote from The Sun: Spitting Image co-creator Roger Law defended his puppets against accusations of racism.

The caricaturist, 79, created the satirical puppet show which first aired in 1984.

It has gone on to win numerous awards by creating caricatures of celebrities and political figures by way of exaggerated puppets in their likeness.

ITV bosses recently had a "curious meeting" with the shows creators to discuss how best to represent black characters, in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement.

But Roger is not having any of the criticism that its past portrayals of figures such as Kanye West or Beyoncé were offensive.

Instead he accused his critics of contriving controversy.

“People sit around looking for things to complain about, and I do big noses and big ears. It’s personal – it’s not a racist thing," he told Radio Times in this week's magazine.
The whole objective of a caricature is the emphasis of certain physical features including the ethnic ones.

This is entirely the problem now, made infintely worse by [anti] social media.

Well I'm finding loads to complain about but that's human nature.

Re: Spitting Image returns

I have watched the new version and the last episode of the old version in the last 24 hours. The old Spitting Image is funnier and more satirical and savage, by far.

Meanwhile I'm struggling with Britbox on my Android T9 TV box. No matter what I do I cannot get it to fit to screen. Therefore, I cannot access the play button. I would download Britbox to my smart TV except that it is an old Panasonic Viera plasma. The Viera Store doesn't feature the Britbox app for this TV.

Or, if you have a smartphone, Chromecast. Brilliant. So easy to use on any TV with HDMI.

This week a new Chromecast comes out with a remote so smartphone is no longer necessary.

I refuse to have anything to do with Amazon until they start paying their proper tax and start treating their employees properly.

Get an alternative then.

Re: Spitting Image returns

Watched it last night and first impression is that it lacked pace. The Boris and alien Cummings sketch was far too long. The main gags were all done in the first minute or so.

As for the Mary Poppins ( no, me neither ) ending what was that about?

Highlights: Prince Andrew* getting whacked over the back of the neck with a piece of 2x4 and Priti Patel as a BDSM mistress with Gove as the client.

"C" Must try harder.

* Apparently the puppet had to be re-inforced here so I guess this will be a regular item.

Quote from The Sun: Spitting Image has been renewed for a 2021 series after breaking records in its Britbox debut.

The comedy revival only dropped its first episode over the weekend, but it's already been renewed for a second series next year.

Announcing the news, Britbox Chief Creative & Brand Officer Reemah Sakaan said: "The fantastic response to Spitting Image just goes to show how much the world needs public service satire.

"Not only can subscribers look forward to another nine weeks of anarchy but also now another series in 2021."

The satirical programme first aired in 1984 yet fans can now get a slice of the action on the online streaming platform.

The iconic political, celebrity and royal mannequins have returned with new faces thrown into the mix such as Donald Trump, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Piers Morgan.

I wouldn’t subscribe to BritBox just for this, but the free episode they showed was quite funny. I especially liked Jared Kushner and Priti Patel

Seen some clips on YouTube. I didn't have high hopes but I'm quite amused with the Cummings as an alien take.

If it had been any good would have signed up while it ran .Sorry it in my opinion a pale shadow of it's former self. Still find Rowen and Martins laugh- in the funniest show I can ever remember. :D
