How stupid - parking warden - jobsworth

/news/uknews/gmp-speak-out-over-video-showing-traffic-warden-issuing-parking-ticket-on-police-car/

I watched this item on jobsworth traffic warden in MANCHESTER. How pathetic. This marked police unit was on an EMERGENCY CALL and got a parking ticket for parking on an illegal spot. How stupid. The warden should be sacked.

Would he have done it for an Ambulance.

These traffic warden needs to take exams in how to use your brains.

Just because it's a police car, ambulance etc doesn't give them the automatic right to park anywhere.

Quote:

A traffic warden has caused a stir by trying to give a paramedic a ticket for leaving her ambulance parked on double yellow lines. The paramedic was on duty, in the middle of a 12-hour shift, when she stopped to buy a drink at a Tesco store.
...
South Western Ambulance Service was asked this very question and they responded on their FAQs page with the following. ‘Ambulances are allowed to park on white or yellow lines providing they are engaged on official duties, e.g. it was necessary to park at that point to carry out essential duties or to be as close as possible to the patient they are treating.
...
West Midlands Police, whilst clearly referring to police cars, may have cleared this up on their website. ‘The Highway Code states that traffic laws apply to everyone, even police cars. ‘The police are only allowed to stop on double yellows if they are dealing with a motorist or attending an emergency.

The police were actually on a call (allegedly).

The police were actually on a call (allegedly).

And there is a procedure to determine that.

Quote:

“As such, the decision to give the police car a parking ticket will be appealed in line with an agreed policy with the council where exceptions can lawfully be made for emergency response vehicles.

My general point still stands.

The fact there was more than one police car should have been a clue to the traffic warden.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but to me assault != A' grade one emergency' (Although I'm sure it would to the person being assaulted)

Seems like the police made a sensible decision as the only other alternative was that they block a bus lane.

Nomadking is correct, there are procedures to rescind this type of thing, same as there are for them driving through red lights and being caught by camera etc.

Seems like a sensationalist story designed to whip up further anger/dislike towards traffic wardens.

Well, as a rule, they are pretty stupid, aren't they? I think you have to possess a certain personality trait for that job, one that compels you to deliberately annoy people.

Annoying as in blocking roads, parking on other people's land, abusing free parking by staying too long and potentially not allowing others to park there, etc?

Apart from a few cases which can be appealed the only stupid ones are the people parking incorrectly.

I believe you can stop on a double yellow to pickup/dropoff.

But around here it's outside a kebab shop where the worst offenders are. They park up to either get food or possibly even use one of the many barbers on the parade. No pickup/dropoff would mean just that, I guess if you had phoned you order in you could jump out, collect/pay and get off without issue, but not wait for it to get cooked. They also have the habit of parking on the pavement, should be same as London and made illegal.

We had just got back to our car the other day as we had 10 minutes left on our ticket and there she was like a overzealous vulture just waiting to slap a ticket on us.

Realistically, how long should they wait? Is there a grace period ? I don't think there is.

There used to be a grace period when someone who worked as a car park attendant we knew was doing it but that was before councils started tendering out to private companies to run their car parks.

So we have

privately run car park operators who are in it for the profit
a subset of individuals who would exploit any grace period

Seems to me that the sensible option is to return before your parking permit is up, or put on extra time at the start to ensure.

We should follow trend of multiple cities in the US, all they're parking is done via app on a smartphone, no need for coins, tickets etc. I know this is more and more available in the UK but it should be done at a national level.

No, such as sticking tickets on fire engines, ambulances, etc and a complete inability to exercise common sense and discretion.

As I've pointed out, legally they don't have a complete free pass to park anywhere they like. Many of the cases that appear in the media are ones where the vehicle drivers are NOT following the law.
