Re: Virgin confirm 500/35 tier
If it turns out they give the current top tier a free upgrade to 500mbit then i hope they increase the other tiers too, as i have no interest in paying top wack to get the highest speeds possible but still want my current 200mbit tier boosted for free.

Re: Virgin confirm 500/35 tier
Yeah that bit did confuse me, I can't see Virgin giving 350 customers an almost 200Mbps speed boost for free though

Re: Virgin confirm 500/35 tier
Hopefully it's a free upgrade - the novelty of 350 down has worn off a bit for me (still nice to see the speeds) but the upload is quite important as I run several servers behind the multiple static IP option I have on my service.

Re: Virgin confirm 500/35 tier
Yup it's the upload that appeals to me as I work from home a lot so sending stuff about would be a lot quicker!
I suspect it'll only be available in areas that can support it, or do we think everywhere is up to 24 down / 4 up now? |

However, its the 35 upload I want it for, id just as happily take 350/35, the 500 DL is just a bonus. :D |

Re: Virgin confirm 500/35 tier
Plus there is the new ruling that ISP's must provide accurate speed forecasts at point of sale, and in some areas I understand they are dire, so VM might push everyone up a notch to make the actual speeds more attractive?

The hardest part was working out which side of the keyboard the problem was on - usually PEBKAC... :D |

It has no teeth and just bows to the ISP's and complictes everything for the ISP customers or at least appears to do so. This so called OFCOM change is nothing more than a farce. Let's face it it's not that many years ago VM were renowned for congestion and it taking months to resolve (if noy years), you'd have been screwed then with this agreement. Care to point a finger? |
Re: Virgin confirm 500/35 tier
I'd very gladly move down to 150/200meg for 20meg and above upload. I'd love to use my home server for more remote tasks.
I think offering over 2/300meg DL plans is a bit of a niche for those people who like to boast, or have very considerably data-hungry, large, families TBH. Tom |
Re: Virgin confirm 500/35 tier
Just noticed my area now has at least 30 downstream channels (going off the channel ID), wonder if this is in preparation for this 500 rollout.
Still on 4x 16 QAM upstreams, although going off the channel IDs again, the area has at least 5 |
