AMD Ryzen 2000 chips

Anyone excited about the new launch of the new AMD Ryzen 2000 chips in 10 days time?

Im gonna upgrade my Piledriver 8370 to the new 2700x chip thats being released with new board and ram.

Well basically im building a complete new tower lol.

I don't follow new tech blindly so no, not excited.
As long as my desktop does what I need it to do...

What are you doing that needs the upgrade to the 2700x cpu?

Very little I would guess.

I can't see you ever having pushed your piledriver to it's full extent. I doubt you'd even know how to.

I do 2/3rds of what you do with a phenom II. I'm not a gamer.

Games these days have a major affect on hardware. I have a 1080ti which is being bottle necked by the cpu and hopefully the Ryzen will solve the issue.

I'm still with the Phenom II x6 1090T, it's been a great chip since new. The only thing I've upgraded since buying it about 5 or 6 years ago, maybe more? Is the video card (1050ti) and the OS (Win 10 Pro).

It handles all the games I play with ease.

I am looking to build a new machine in the next couple of months and the new Ryzens look good to me. I mainly do video encoding and streaming through Plex so the multicore performance looks ideal.

Some of the reports I have read suggest that a lot of gaming will not be significantly improved due to the single core speeds being lower than Intel but that's fine with me

Re: AMD Ryzen 2000 chips

The single core performance is not that much lower than Intels and if u look at the money you are saving compared to buying the intel chip its way worth it.

The new tower for gaming im looking at building will cost me around £1700 but its gonna last me atleast 5 years.

The Intel landscape is also improving, with some cheaper chipsets for the non-K models that don't need the full features of the Z series

Re: AMD Ryzen 2000 chips

They are still quite a bit more expensive than AMD tho.

Well my new system is up and running and seems stable.

Now all i need is something good to monitor system temps.

If it’s stable then leave it as that. If you start watching temps then you’ll end up obsessed over something totally pointless.

Re: AMD Ryzen 2000 chips

Try Speedfan

Unless a chip is really running hot, say over 70C then don't worry. I actually on the lappy have a channel showing 127C but it does that from powerup so is not really a real reading. (0x7F?)

The only time to keep an eye on temps is when overclocking otherwise as you say can lead to obsessing over nothing.

Re: AMD Ryzen 2000 chips

My system claims to be between 97*c and 105*c from powerup lol.
