Sky fibre question

Hi all
I currently have Sky broadband as a backup to my main VM broadband.
I'm debating if it's worth keeping Sky as I only get around 4.5 mbps on a good day which is about as good as I could expect with the distance from the exchange. I did consider Sky fibre but would it significantly improve my speeds based on my current adsl predicted maximum download speed of 4-4.5 mbps .
Cheers.

Re: Sky fibre question

With Sky fibre distance from the exchange is immaterial. It is distance from the cabinet that's important.

To get a rough idea enter your address here.

Don't enter your phone number as you are with Sky so it won't return a result.

Ah great i'll check that out. Thanks Pip. :tu:
Well i just used it. Didn't recognise my number (presumably as i moved from BT > O2 > Sky), so I used the less accurate post code checker and it just produced the bog standard ADSL speed info ...2.5-6.0

Does this checker help?

I did say use the ADDRESS checker for a reason. The postcode checker is the least accurate.

Gives worse results than the post code checker (not to say it isn't more accurate). But it's a table of adsl / vdsl speeds.

I notice that at the end of last year they were guaranteeing 55 mbps or your money back...sounds a bit optimistic but i'd bite their hands off for half that speed.

What are the VDSL speeds? They are what you can expect from Sky depending on the packages they sell.

How do you find the UPRN number which is required when doing that? I had a google but failed to find how.

You don't need it.

3.5 :erm: not exactly 55 guaranteed.
is VDSL actually fibre ?

Re: Sky fibre question

VDSL is FTTC and is sold as a fibre product.

Why don't you just post a screenshot of the result you get. I can then tell you what to expect.

Remove your address before posting.

Re: Sky fibre question

You must be a long way from your cabinet. FTTC is not for you. Forget about Sky fibre for now.

I've forgotten already. Thanks Pip.

I do the same.

I have the lower of the fibre options and get 30M down, 4.5M up, on it.

Sounds like a good plan for you with those decent fibre speeds. Looks like i'll have to settle for my 4.5 mbps down, 0.5 up on a really good day with normal adsl. If the VM connection fails the Sky connection just wouldn't be up to the job and i'll have three demanding family members to answer to. :D

Keep your fingers crossed that your area is in the current Ultrafast rollout plans.

BT offer Ultrafast

http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/tech...11364243604102

Ultrafast will be delivered by both G.Fast and FTTP.

For G.Fast areas you'll know when its available to you as there'll be an added sidepod on your cab.

Must be honest i'd not even considered ultra fast BB as an option until now, but all fingers are well and truly crossed.
