If you feel like chicken tonight....

....Be prepared that your local KFC store may be closed, is having supply issues and having to close practically every store in the UK due to delivery issues.

https://news.sky.com/story/kfc-closu...icken-11257581

Quote:

KFC has had to shut most of its restaurants across the UK and Ireland after "teething problems" with a new delivery contractor meant it ran out of chicken.

The fast food chain said it was "working flat out" to reopen stores after there were issues with deliveries on Friday and over the weekend.

Its problems appeared to have deepened on Monday as an update on its website listed just over 80 UK and Ireland restaurants, out of a total of 900, that were open at midday.

That number had grown to almost 300 later in the afternoon.

On Sunday night 270 branches were open.

A spokesman said it was "too early to say" how long it would take to reopen those that had been closed.

The chain also said that where possible, staff would be "redeployed onto alternative tasks or to other restaurants that remain open".

Many years ago I popped into a KFC on New Years eve. All they had was diet coke (it was quite late) but quite how they ran out of chicken but still stayed open still amazes me.

Do you eat the skin too?

I do, best part, just wash, bake, smother it with butter, cheese and coleslaw. Best when it’s baked to a crunchy state.

Absolutely Mick as that is my favourite part of it although some in the family don't think so.

If it was actually coated and cooked on the premises they could send a YTS round to Sainsbury's to pick up a job lot of drumsticks. Tells you all you need to know why it's not good for you.

KFC, you had one job....

I rarely eat KFC but there have been two times in the last 5 years I have gone in to a KFC and they have told me they have run out of chicken.

This time they changed delivery company so are blaming teething problems. Could have been worse, they could have chosen Yodel or Hermes instead of DHL :PP:

I love how the BBC article reportrs that KFC knew they had made a mistake weeks ago in switching to DHL but by then it was too late.

Ooops. My local was open at the weekend but no just eat deliveries. However it's now closed totally.

Heads will roll somewhere, it's costing KFC £!million/day allegedly, DHL are trying to run things from one centre, versus the previous ones 6 centres.

Previous ne also had to shut one of their places, causing 300 job losses.

Wonder if DHL's undercut price was really worth it.

Well this story seems to have ruffled a fair few feathers and left a fowl taste in the mouths of the masses. The media is doing a sterling job keeping us abreast of the situation.

But how much longer can the company survive with such a poultry level of supply??

Quote from Devon Live:

Over 100 kilograms of packaged KFC chicken which was set to be delivered to a nearby branch was found dumped on the side of a busy Devon road in broad daylight this week.

Dean Kenny, a civil engineer who was working in area, returned from his lunch break to find five crates of KFC chicken dumped by a set of traffic lights on Alphington Road, Exeter, just minutes away from the branch in Marsh Barton.

Staggered by what he saw, Mr Kenny reported the findings to the manager of the KFC branch on Ashton Road, where he was met by the manager of the store who went to collect the chicken-filled crates.
I wonder how long that chicken had been basking on the side of the road? :erm:

We stopped eating kfc a longtime ago our local branch served anything but crispy chicken it was grease laden crap the last one we had spent nearly 40 minutes in the oven and still tasted bad. It would be nice to think the people that ate kfc a lot would have used this recent trouble to go find a better alternative but being realistic they probably just went to the next fast food joint.

Quote from cips.org:

Mick Rix, GMB’s national officer, said he told KFC that it could face a repeat of supply issues that hit Burger King when it dropped Bidvest in favour of DHL six years ago.

“We warned them a few months ago. I wrote to KFC. I alluded to Burger King trying to cut costs and ending up with poorer quality service and poorer distribution – they had shortages too but not on the scale we’re seeing now at KFC,” he said.

“Within six months they [Burger King] were pleading with Bidvest Logistics to take it back.”

Rix blamed the current crisis at KFC on dropping a supply system based on six warehouses run by Bidvest to a system of one distribution centre in Rugby, run by DHL.

He said the conditions at the Rugby warehouse were “an utter shambles”.

“They took a lower tender with a load of promises that have not materialised – the system can’t cope,” he said.
So this is a repeat fiasco by DHL. You'd have thought they could have learnt that replacing a specialist distributor of groceries with a courier firm was unlikely to be plain sailing.

In addition:

Quote:

He added that since losing the KFC contract, Bidvest had made 255 staff redundant and he urged KFC to reinstate Bidvest.

“We’ve never had redundancies at Bidvest before on this scale – some of those staff would come back. It is the only way of resolving the problem,” he said.

“DHL will not be able to provide the service they quoted for. Even if the industry experts piled into that depot now to sort out the mess at Rugby, it would take weeks and even months to sort the problems out.”

KFC goes back to old supplier in part after restaurant delivery crisis.

Quote:

KFC has returned to its old delivery contractor to supply chicken to restaurants after hundreds of outlets were forced to close last month.
Quote:

In its statement, KFC confirmed it was yet to fully resolve the delivery problems but would not comment, for commercial reasons, on whether it had been forced to pay over the odds to get Bidvest back on board.
