Virgin set to increase price April 2018?

Am I right in thinking it was mentioned on these forums a while ago about another potential price increase in April 2018?

Re: Virgin set to increase price April 2018?

There were unsubstantiated claims, but no concrete evidence. Given Virgin started notifying customers about last November's price rise in August (3 months beforehand), if there was to be a major price rise in April, I'd imagine there would be letters/emails being sent out to customers around now.

Also, I'm my opinion to have another major prise rise just 5 months after the last is unlikely given the negative impact it had when Virgin had two price rises in 2016. There may well be some tinkering - perhaps phone plans etc., but I just can't see another price rise like there was in November so soon afterwards.

In previous years VM have split price rises to bundle customers & standalone service customers so they happen on seperate dates. Did standalone service prices rise in November, or just bundles?

I should be a mind reader.

If rumours are true - why. VM cannot justify in my opionon another price increase.

They have NOT increased any new channels.

It's simple if the wholesale price to Virgin from Sky goes up then they have to have an increase. You as Joe public will not be privy to the prices sky charge Vm. However your a mind reader so what are the costs Arthur

Absolutely you're not, otherwise you might find out you're being ripped off !

Re: Virgin set to increase price April 2018?

Can't see it myself - if Sky launches its Q service over Internet in the first half of 2018 the last thing VM will do to compete is hike prices.
Weren't there similar rumours this time last year of an April hike, possibly from the same source? That never happened.
Another rumour I've heard is that old chestnut of Vodaphone buying VM from Liberty. Stranger things have been known.

The force is strong on that rumour. I hope it turns out to be untrue as Vodafone would turn VM to the darkside :)

Spooky! Why do you say that and what do you think the implications for subscribers would be?

Pointless posts removed.

This is the last time I'm going to warn you two (Old Boy & denphone) about your silly bickering in threads.

Next time I come across it I will suspend you both for a few days. Knock it off.

Re: Virgin set to increase price April 2018?

To confirm the price rise was info i was given by a source, more reliable sources i've spoken too have confirmed what a few others have said the price rise is unlikely in April.
We think there may be one around October/November.
If my sources are wrong i'm not afraid to hold up my arms and admit i had wrong information given to me.

Why don't we put the question to every member on this forum.
1) Do you think that we are paying too much for Cable Tv

2) Do you think the channels that we have justify a further price increase.

3 ) would customers jump ship and go to other providers if prices increase further for the channels that we have

If your answers are Yes, No and Yes then it's definitely time to shop around. So many options available now in terms of other providers and streaming services. All companies rely on the apathy of the masses when putting prices up. If people feel they are not getting value for money, but keep on paying regardless, they're not doing themselves any favours.

Re: Virgin set to increase price April 2018?

Might just be a fluke, but just 10 minutes ago I was invited to fill in a survey by virgin media on price increases and how much I thought would be acceptable. It concentrated a lot on what would be the maximum I would be happy to pay and the minimum.
Feels like they're possibly testing the water to maybe introduce different packages/prices. This would make sense, due to sky just having rejiggled their packages.

Re: Virgin set to increase price April 2018?

IF prices go up again at an unreasonable rate, then VM can shove it.

Last year prices went up three times. And they cannot justify the price increases. Cable Yv should be cheaper. Not expensive.

So you've said before, Arthur, and yet you continue to let Virgin Media into your house!

Re: Virgin set to increase price April 2018?

There was only one general price increase last year in November. The increase before that was November 2016.

Re: Virgin set to increase price April 2018?

Maybe if they stopped giving discounts to people, like me who didn't ask for one last year and this year, they might not have to put the prices up so often.

denphone 11-01-2018 19:55

Re: Virgin set to increase price April 2018?

But the reason why they give discounts is to stop customers leaving and to keep their churn down.

If people don't ask for discounts, they pay way over the odds, way more than new customers. Its a crazy situation, but VM have created it. Presumably they make loads from customers that never quibble and accept a price rise several times a year. Direct Debits and apathy - a corporate dream.....

I believe everyone should be paying the advertised price. That said I'm not going to turn down discount I didn't even ask for.

Re: Virgin set to increase price April 2018?

This whole discussion brings up the true value of what we're paying for on a monthly basis. My contract is not up until august and from a personal point of view I probably will not be continuing with the TV side of things or landline phone.
I have recently been using a mixture of Amazon prime, now TV and netflix, and for my family this seems to be enough. I find it has lots of choice and gives me great flexibility. I paid £79 back in July for a year of prime and I feel it is great value for money. We have taken full advantage of the next day delivery, and it's worked well for them as a lot of our purchases are now through Amazon.
I find virgin TV too limited now, the V6 is good but I never take advantage of the 6 tuners, and the on demand especially the catch up is very poor. The channels on offer, some are good but too littered with adverts. I know I could record, but somehow maybe I've become too lazy! And prefer the instant on and no adverts of the steaming sites.

I cut the cord 2 years ago and have never looked back, although i did take SKY up on a offer but was only for basic tv more as a backup if my net goes down.
I myself use playstation store for renting/buying movies, netflix for tv and a American service via a vpn which i pay a friend around £7p/m for gives me hbo, nbcsports, foxsports and tonnes more.

Sounds good, and I think this sort of picking and mixing will become more popular as time goes on. People want choice and variety, without adverts! Sky and virgin TV packages have become bloated and unfit for purpose. Don't get me wrong there will always be supporters of linear TV, but it nowadays seems an outdated concept.

Re: Virgin set to increase price April 2018?

No price rise is obviously happening next month so that is good

Anyone know if BT Sport will remain free in the top TV packs for next season?

My contract is up next weekend and I'm looking to ditch the phone line and reduce the BB speed to offset a lot of the rises over the past few years

That will most likely come with a new 12-month contract which I don't want to commit to should BT Sport be pulled before summer 19

denphone 17-03-2018 12:21

Re: Virgin set to increase price April 2018?

If there are developments regarding BT Sport they would be announced around late June to Late July Gavin.

I really don't think you need to worry about entering into a new contract, Gavin. There is bound to be a price rise by the autumn, and so you could get out of the contract then if you wished to do so.

Sorry my friend, l am not in the mood for an argument. I have just managed to drive through the beast of the east weather conditions back to London. And my great friends of Hemsby who are suffering tonight due to bad weather.

It's not just about new channels, Arthur, it is also inflation and investment costs.
