V6 offer from VM

Had an email from VM today offering me a V6 for 20 quid

Should I feel special or is this a new promotion?

Off to read the relevant thread now to see what the user base thinks of it

It's worth it.

I was happy when on an engineer visit he said he could swap mine if i wanted, i snapped his arm off.

I had an email as well, I don't fancy the sh3 at the moment so will sit tight for now. I have sh2ac which is the best I have had.

If you use Tivos scart for anything ( I use mine to feed extra tvs & dvd recorder), be aware the V6 doesn't have one, just a single HDMI out.

Re: V6 offer from VM

Until now, I have not moved onto the V6, as I do not want to lose the recordings on my current TiVo. I have received the V6 offer email, which states the following:

"Keep your recordings and watch them on any Virgin TV box, powered by TiVo"

What exactly does this mean?

BenMcr 02-11-2017 13:18

Re: V6 offer from VM

So that's talking about keeping your existing box and using the box to box streaming via your home network.

I must have been lucky when I got my V6 a few months ago, CS did not mention changing my Superhub and I didn't say anything either. It works and works well as it is all I care about

Thanks, Ben, for confirming that - it certainly helps with transitioning to V6.

Apart from the £20 one-off fee, is there any increase in the monthly bill, for having an extra box?

Re: V6 offer from VM

Yes, you'll have to pay an extra £7.50 per month to keep the TiVo. You can get rid of it when you've watched the backlog of recordings. No TV required but you must have both a co-ax and home network connection to both the V6 and TiVo.

So it doesn’t have to change ?

Had a lot of trouble with wifi before we managed to get an engineer out a few months ago. He put a sh2 in and it’s been flawless since

We’ve got so many devices connected now it would be more trouble than it’s worth to have to swap it out if the sh3 didn’t perform as well

That’s the only thing stopping me, nothing on the tivo we especially need to keep so happy to have a new toy to play with

As long as you have a 2 or 2ac you won't get it swapped automatically. However you may get offered the Hub 3.0 as part of the change.

In small print at the bottom of the email it says ". We are upgrading your current broadband kit for a new Hub 3.0, for free."

In view of the problems with SH3 which are well documented I shall not be taking up the offer.

Excellent news, thanks

My last question, I've been reading the hub and V6 need to be in the same room?

If that's the case the hub will have to move

No it doesn't mate, I have three V6 boxes and they're all connected via WiFi, having said that I have had connection problems just recently with a poor wifi signal, but I think I've solved the problem by connecting with the 2.4GHz signal rather than the 5GHz signal.

I'm going to order, thanks

The online order has told me an engineer will be coming out to move equipment
Will I be able to call to specify I just want the box swapped and nothing else changed which I'm sure I could do myself?

Yes, just tell him you want the new Hub 3 to be in the same place as the Shub that he's replacing, that's what I did and it all went fine.

I got moved over to a SH3 a couple of weeks ago and I have found that the wireless reach / performance has actually improved over the SH2 I had.

Had a call today from a foreign call centre today offering me an upgrade from my 500 TiVo to a V6.

I've never had a 500 TiVo and have had a V6 since before the official release date

Not really happy that VM are passing details about me to God knows where in the world, incorrect or otherwise.

When I got my V6,I moved the Tivo upstairs to replace the VHD box and I only pay £1 extra now.

...but you didn't add a box.
You replaced a multiroom V HD box (cost £6.50) with a multiroom TiVo (cost £7.50), hence the nett £1 per month extra.

All went smoothly after discovering the box wedged between the gas meter and the wall when I got home from work!

Spent most of last night just clicking on apps because I was so amazed at how quickly they loaded :D

Me too. It's a swap out of our second box.

Re: V6 offer from VM

I suspect Virgin are attempting to get rid of most if not all of their legacy boxes.

This cuts maintenance costs - also means all boxes could cope with future system enhancements, possibly cloud recording?

Sky went through a similar process with their 1st generation HD boxes (these were superb if you had upgraded the bits that normally failed - power supply and hard drive) - their rationale being that they didn't want to support these boxes any more and wanted their customers to be able to get the 'full sky experience'.

I had 2 of these, was offered 2 new std HD boxes, managed to get a free new 2Tb box instead of one of these by pointing out I was losing disc space (both mine had 1Tb drives) if I only got 2 std boxes.
