Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
Not long to go now, McGregor just completed a 12 rounds open training session with ease, he wasn't putting it all out though but damn at times he was lightning quick with his hands and at 154lbs he's hitting like a truck. Mayweather will surely outbox this lad but I'm telling you now if McGregor catches Floyd with a power shot, it's done. This man is undoubtedly the hardest hitting puncher Mayweather has ever faced. Mayweather being 40, maybe rusty, in it for a payout due to his recent tax issues, you just don't know, McGregor has a punchers chance here. It literally takes one punch and again McGregor is more than capable of delivering it.
I'm quite surprised at how decent McGregor looks though, I expected far less. |
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
After the Paulie fallout from last week it's becoming clear very quickly that McGregor absolutely battered him. It was already evident from Paulie's damaged face and McGregor being clean as a whistle but having seen the released sparring footage (select footage ofc) it seems McGregor was really trying to beat on the guy and was absolutely battering him.
Still got it Mayweather unless Conor catches him on the button. A lot of people whom thought this was crazy are really starting to turn in McGregor's favour. Virgil Hunter said it best though, he uses Nate Diaz for Andre Ward and he soaks up everything Ward throws, he then reminded us that McGregor busted Diaz open in 30 seconds and then floored him 3 times in the rematch. In Virgil's words, Conor is a very dangerous man, Diaz defended Ward's shots pretty well but couldn't get out of Conor's firing line. I admire Mayweather, watched as many of his fights as I physically could but he really seems out of his comfort zone here. McGregor got to him, I've rarely seen Floyd bite and he tried to bite on numerous occasions, he just wasn't used to the McGregor-esque Mic style and was caught out. Floyd better turn up for a boxing match here because it reeks of desperation of a man trying to get paid and assuming he's going to coast to a 12 round win with ease. The last man that I watched turn up just to coast the fight and get paid was Carl Froch, he ended up needing the referee to make a dodgy call to win the fight after being blown away in the first round and floored and dismantled for the next 5-6 rounds. |
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
Mayweather will make McGregor look stupid and amateurish on the night IMO.

Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
TD has it right. A lot including myself don't think Mayweather is truly in this properly. Its too coincidental that overdue tax debts start arising and only then does he make the fight happen, before that it was just a media fantasy. Hes also right on the front that Mayweather very literally cherry picked fights towards the end of his career. He wanted nothing to do with Manny when he was in form but happily took the fight after the Filipinos rapid decline, Maidana is an exception, Mayweather thought he was easy pickings but Maidana nearly decked him and Floyd had to really take a rematch and take him a lot more seriously.
Truth is still the same as it has been for years. Timothy Bradley and Amir Khan are the only two fighters to challenge Mayweather over 12 rounds. Bradley is in his prime and Khan is still the fastest and most accurate at 147. Floyd isn't knocking either of them out. I'm not saying he loses but that by some distance it'd be his most interesting fight. Mayweather may well school McGregor over a boring 12 rounds. Absolutely no one has McGregor winning a decision. No one is that ludicrous. Myself and others give him that punchers chance though, it literally takes one solid shot to end it and a 20 something fighter with unrivaled power at his weight is more than capable of delivering it. They said he couldn't box and it wouldn't work. Paulie's face and the way he planted to the floor answered that question. Andre Ward and Virgil Hunter use Nate Diaz as a sparring partner. Virgil isn't backing McGregor but hes freely admitted he was bewildered that a lightweight MMA (Light MW Boxing) managed to bust Diaz open with clean shots and floor him 3 times. Andre Ward, a Super middleweight-Light Heavyweight world champion boxer has never put Diaz on the floor. There should be absolutely no question about whether McGregor hits hard. He'll be the hardest hitting striker Mayweather has ever been in the ring with. Summary. If it goes 12, Floyd wins, doesn't get simpler than that. But so long as McGregor is there for 36 minutes he's dangerous. One solid left hand makes it 49-1. He could've fought someone with the same level of power that's a natural boxer, I can't see Mayweather fighting Gennady Golovkin anytime soon though. |
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
Currently live and ongoing. Reports of 4am ring walk for main event, very unlikely.

Winning two rounds shocked me. I wasn't posting because surely it was already news that McGregor was coming in at 170. So it was a given that he'd gas. Still did far better than I expected.

Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
They spoke about the octagon and MMA for a rematch but it shouldn't happen. I enjoyed this. The idea of Floyd coming to MMA is just silly and dangerous. It isn't interesting and the idea that he'd likely get seriously hurt should deter it all together.
Floyd knows what's best for him. There isn't another boxing match. He has enough to comfortably despatch a McGregor. But I am absolutely certain at this point and past his prime that he'd lose to Khan or Bradley. Before this I gave them both a chance but now I'm absolutely confident Khan would take Mayweather over 12 rounds. If McGregor lands 111 shots on Floyd then Khan quadruples that easily. McGregor gassed. Neither Khan or Bradley slow down. But it's easy to say this against a guy that's skill set is diminishing. Thus I can't accuse him of dodging anyone. I've endured this supposed circus. I've defended the idea of it. I will 100℅ not defend the idea of Floyd fighting in a cage though. |
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
Another cross-discipline non-event farce. Both fighters would like to thank the public for making them very rich .

I am surprised McGregor lasted as long as he did. I am not an expert in either sport but I can't imagine you can simply walk into another sport, even if some of the attributes required are similar, and easily win. Professional runners struggle when the distance they're competing in changes.

Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
McGregor landed more shots on Floyd than Manny did. His gameplan just didn't work.
Everything about this match was set up in Floyd's favour, nothing was left to chance really. McGregor had the punchers chance but the gamble didn't pay off, that's all there is to it. Mayweather won't compete in MMA, it's just not doable. So if a rematch is a must, let's compromise a bit. Both fighters use MMA 4-5oz open fisted gloves under a boxing ruleset. Then watch how differently the fight unfolds, I absolutely guarantee Floyd gets cut inside the first round and he gets put away by the third. McGregor strikes against open fisted glove guards, that's his sport, that's his experience. He was at a massive disadvantage instantly trying to pop shots around Mayweathers guard which just happens to be the best in the business on top of wrapped foamed gloves. That won't happen ofc for several reasons. Mayweather never takes a fight with a fair chance he'd lose and his hands just won't hold up in those smaller open fisted gloves. So I can't exactly say he'd dodge that fight, he literally has a publicly known reason he couldn't fight with those gloves. He gets specially made gloves because of the issues. Floyd could still land with those open fisted gloves but there's a huge chance he'd break or shatter a bone. |

Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
Was no circus to be found though overall. We witnessed a game of tactics unfold. McGregor came in just above light heavyweight with the idea of putting Floyd away in under 4 rounds. So we knew he'd gas. Any media outlet that claims to be shocked either doesn't know McGregor or is just lying. Mayweather's response was a thing of beauty though. I actually believe he respected Conor and the power a lot and those first four rounds wasn't Mayweather starting slow, it was him luring Conor into a boxing match and egged him into burning himself out. He gave Conor a belief that he was actually outboxing Floyd and no longer needed to put Floyd away. So when round 5 hits Conor really starts to drop off and the power is gone, the fight is won.
In the end it's a TKO by definition but its just exhaustion. Things to take away. McGregor landed more clean shots than Manny did on Mayweather. Despite Floyd's plan, he got absolutely rattled by an uppercut that he didn't intend on taking, at this point Mayweather stops relaxing and knuckles down. Controversially, Mayweather is no longer unbeatable. Both Bradley and Khan can and would beat this Mayweather over 12 rounds. The guys 40 and hardly prime though so it's a biased statement. But we can counter that with his blatant avoidance of Manny until he'd really gotten past his peak and Mosley for that matter too. McGregor vs Paulie next. Conors can only improve against a boxer that's been in rapid decline for 7 years. He's beaten this guy to a pulp in sparring. Is there really much point to it? As long as Showtime back McGregor like hes the new face of boxing and brings in PPV money then sadly yes. ---------- Post added at 19:18 ---------- Previous post was at 18:36 ---------- Forgot to add. Golovkin vs Canelo next. More excited for that than I was for this. |
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
Floyd Mayweather legitimately considering MMA bout in UFC with Conor Mcgregor. Dana White confirmed a contract has been set out.
Alright, no. This is dangerous territory now. Silly boxing stunt aside, it's far more dangerous for Floyd than it was for Conor in this situation. Floyd would be giving a while lot more away than Conor was too. At his age we really should be drawing a line under this and letting it go. Floyd beating Mcgregor proved nothing. Mcgregor beating the crap out of Floyd and possibly inflicting serious injury on him again proves nothing and is even stupider imo. Can't believe we're going through this again. |
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
Floyd has reportedly backed away. Seems he realised there's far more to lose here than that 0 he has in boxing.
I don't expect this to be the end of it for a while though. This will get McGregor on his soap box now. |
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
Cancel that cancellation.
Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor II : The Octagon  They're stirring up that pot again. I struggle to see why Floyd would want this at all. |
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
Bigger hints coming that Floyd vs McGregor II will happen in the octagon.
Said I wouldn't defend it and I still won't, this is a far more dangerous prospect for Mayweather than it was for McGregor. As previous posts state, Floyd has bad hands and would go in with a massive chance of breaking his hand very early on due to the 5oz glove set up. The difference between striking with open fisted 5oz gloves and standard boxing gloves isn't massive but it is different, he'd be able to cope with that easily, the problem is, defending is a whole lot different. Mayweather has the best guard in boxing with traditional gloves. 5oz gloves will mean he relies on head movement alone because McGregor can punch through or around that guard. The chance of being cut is way higher. - How will he utilise footspeed when McGregor chops him to pieces with kicks? - How will he defend sharp elbows? - How will his gas tank hold up when McGregor takes him to the floor and sits on him. - McGregor isn't going to gas against someone like Mayweather in the Octagon, he's going to be there for the full 5 rounds. He'll be able to fight at his natural weight without feeling the need to come in nearer 170lbs. - The Risk to both reputation and livelihood. Is Mayweather really going to risk having his arm broken by an armbar/kimura that could damage his reputation and make sure he's permanently retired. Could it be possible that Mayweather is actually not in this for McGregor and Dana has made a separate agreement, Mayweather vs CM Punk etc. Mayweather is drumming up hype for something. A boxing match between him and McGregor was slightly far fetched but plausible. This is just insanity and way out there. |

Doubt the fight will be happening now as there's a good chance McGregor will be getting kicked out of UFC for it, possibly even headed to jail. |
Re: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor 26th August
UFC won't do a thing. Dana White will be back channeling him ridiculous Lawyers about now whilst condemning him publicly. Dana White could essentially sue Conor for losses, but that won't happen either. McGregor would never fight in the UFC again if that were the case and as it stands McGregor's name alone is the biggest star in the organization. The thought of allowing McGregor to go prop Bellator is just something White won't allow to happen.
His charges will be plead down to misdemeanor and fines, if unlucky a community service order and by the longest odds a minimal suspended sentence. Conor has just lit the fire for the most hyped match in UFC, McGregor vs Khabib. He knows he can't beat Khabib on the floor, everyone knows it. However, we also know lesser people than McGregor have slapped Khabib's chin, there's also no way he stands with McGregor and wins. It's at a duff point right now. People want to see a war, not Khabib sit on him for 5 rounds. That would just cause a split of people claiming Khabib had no balls and Conor couldn't wrestle. Tapping McGregor does nothing at this point, unless your going to knock him out, you're not denting him or his future. |
