TV Schedule - Summer 2018

Hi dudes and dudettes, it has come round to that time of the year where we wipe the slate clean of the summer series and start fresh for the new fall tv season. I am starting a new thread so nobody gets confused with the posts and any dates mentioned in last year's thread.

There will be 3 main updates to this thread over the next year. The first one is this one which is by far the largest update of the year for new tv season which includes many new series as well as returning series. The second update will be the mid-season update in the new year where I wipe everything pre-Christmas off and we focus on January-March and March will be the final update of the year looking at what is on over summer. I will be making minor updates in between as air dates get revised and new information gets released. If you are looking at your calendar and thinking it looks quite empty in comparison to previous years it is because there are quite a few returning series this year that are going to be shown mid-season (after Christmas) and there are no specific dates yet so keep coming back and checking.

The list is in chronological order although I am listing new series separately so they stand out and you can give them greater consideration if you are looking for something new to seek your teeth in to. This is by no means an exhaustive list of every series in existence and is only the series which I watch/will be watching as well as some other popular series I have seen other forum users mention. In the event that I have missed something out or you would like to see something added to the list please say so and I'll do my best to get it added.

Agents of Shield will air in the US the week after the Marvel's Inhumans 8 episode run. Let's hope it's the same in the UK.

Yeah, saw that ages ago, should be the end of November, assuming no breaks in the Inhumans run.
They have 22 episode of AOS to then fit in, which will be a squeeze given the normal breaks they take.

As per the artticle " Dungey also noted that S.H.I.E.L.D. will air its 22-episode season mostly uninterrupted."

I need to watch a few more eps of Seal Team to see how it goes. The Brave did my head in, there is so much wrong with it, so I am ditching that and Young Sheldon. I'll watch Inhumans later and report back.

I havent seen Young Sheldon yet

The Brave has already been cancelled.
Inhumans is dead in the water, not officially cancelled yet, but reportly so.

lol, I just don't understand how stuff can be made with so many annoying mistakes. I need to be a tv series tester and watch these things before they get released so I can tell them what is wrong and they can go back and fix it. I kind of feel sorry for the main dude from Under the Dome, I really like him and wish I could swap him out for David Boreanaz in Seal Team.

Its not anything like most other Trek TV series but its also not like the recent JJverse movies. Meant to be set in the prime timeline of the original Kirk and other series timeline though, not bad though.

Yeah I'd read that in your other thread that it'd just kick off right after Inhumans but noticed General had it listed for TBC - January. I still haven't tried Inhumans yet, I hope it doesn't tie in or crossover anywhere.

I still wish they'd get rid of those main title graphics in the opening credits and go back to the ship traveling through space.

when I made the thread a few months ago I google'd the series which I didn't have definite dates for and stuff like Homeland and AoS came back as mid-season or the New Year so I put them down as January approx so everyone knew they weren't going to start up with everything else now and then I can go back and change them accordingly.

Yea its not really got a Trek feel about the credits at all. Too modern and a bit like the GoT or James bond type sequences.

Whatever you do don't watch Extinct. It is like one of those B movies you see on the Syfy channel which is a off of something like Armageddon and is so bad it is comical. I turned it off after 20 mins and thought my time would be better spent watching paint dry.
On a serious note though, I moved to the next thing on my list which was the season premiere of The Shannara Chronicles which was infinitely better.

I haven't made my mind up about Valor yet. At face value it is ok and I enjoy the military side of it but I think it is going to dig itself a hole and go OTT with the drama and conspiracy side of things. I am happy with a straight forward military series like Seal Team without it trying to be something else.

Oh and I am giving up on Wisdom of the Crowd after 2 eps as well.

One to keep an eye out for next year:

Quote:

YouTube Red is getting lost in space. This week, the streaming service announced a new TV show, Origins, will debut in 2018.

From Mika Watkins, the sci-fi thriller follows a “group of strangers [who] find themselves stranded on a spacecraft bound for a distant planet.” Left Bank Pictures and Midnight Radio are producing, in association with China International Television Corporation (CiTVC) and Sony Pictures Television, International Production.

Origin is slated to premiere on YouTube Red in 2018.

“LOS ANGELES — October 25, 2017 — A group of strangers find themselves stranded on a spacecraft bound for a distant planet in ORIGIN, a chilling new sci-fi thriller from Left Bank Pictures and Midnight Radio, in association with China International Television Corporation (CiTVC) and Sony Pictures Television, International Production. In this 10-episode series, coming to YouTube Red in 2018, the abandoned passengers must work together for survival, but quickly realize that one of them is far from who they claim to be."

Re: TV Schedule - Fall 2017/2018

good, each episode has been doing my head in even more, it is actually quite laughable in some places. It doesn't matter where they are, whether they are in the helicopter, having a BBQ with friends, in the locker room with a tonne of other military guys......."we are going to take a two minute break from the main story and talk about the conspiracy in front of everyone that we are trying to keep secret for the millionth time".

The thing which let this series down is that there is only 5% of what I wanted to see which is military action in the helicopter. The rest is stupid conspiracy plot and family drama. I was going to drop it anyway because I prefer Seal Team and SWAT started last week as well. The best by faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar though if you like military stuff is The Long Road Home which started last night. I watched it this morning and loved it. It is a proper military story Band of Brothers style based on the Iraq war. I am hoping it is not a one-off and they pick up another story in season 2. Considering it has been produced by National Geographic it has been very very well done and so far I am not having any issues at all with my "realism factor". I would gladly ditch the other series and take this one if I had to choose between them.

Are you watching The Brave? Recently, NBC praised the ratings for the freshman TV show. Could this mean a season two renewal?

According to NBC, ratings for The Brave have increased over 60% since it debuted in September. Currently, the drama is earning an average rating of 1.05 in the 18-49 demo and 5.147 million viewers, placing it above popular shows likes The Blacklist and Blindspot.

Read more details from NBC below:

“The Brave,” which is in the midst of its 13-episode season, has been a steady performer for the network. This past Monday’s episode equaled the show’s high in 18-49 since Oct. 9 and, despite airing opposite “The Good Doctor,” the season average for “The Brave” has outrated CBS’ “Scorpion” on eight of eight Mondays so far in 18-49. It also ranks ahead of several rival 10 p.m. dramas, including “NCIS: New Orleans,” “Blue Bloods,” “S.W.A.T.,” “Kevin (Probably) Saves the World” and “Madam Secretary.”

In L+7, “The Brave” has increased by +60% in 18-49 and +3.2 million viewers overall (5.3 million to 8.5 million). With the addition of projected non-linear ratings, the L+7 figure grows to a 1.96 in 18-49.

“Dean Georgaris and our executive producers and cast have created a compelling drama, with top-notch production values, that have captured the intense pressure facing our military personnel in the field and the analysts back home in their unrelenting fight to protect our freedom,” said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment. “We couldn’t be prouder of the work they all do.”

A decision on a second season will be made at a later date.”

Re: TV Schedule - Fall 2017/2018

We shall see, the site I use still lists it as cancelled.

Quote:

NBC refutes the cancellation, however, insiders stress that it is in their interests to do so, and the show is nevertheless “toast”.

Incidently, I have no idea why they renewed "Blindspot" either, that was expected to die, and didnt, and its not doing very well again.

General Maximus 19-11-2017 18:41

Re: TV Schedule - Fall 2017/2018

I can't believe it is doing so well. Before I saw that article I read this one:

Quote:

CBS GIVES FULL SEASON ORDER TO “S.W.A.T.”AND PICKS UP THREE ADDITIONAL EPISODES OF “9JKL” FOR THE 2017-2018 BROADCAST SEASON

CBS has given a full season order to new drama series S.W.A.T. and has picked up three additional episodes of new comedy 9JKL for the 2017-2018 broadcast season.

S.W.A.T. is averaging 10.36 million viewers, 1.9 in adults 18-49 and 2.8 in adults 25-54. Its Thursday, Nov. 2 premiere at 10:00 PM was the best performance in the time period with entertainment programming since Jan. 6, 2016, averaging 10.52 million viewers with live plus 7-day ratings. It also had the time period’s best rating among adults 18-49 since March 3, 2016, averaging 1.9.
You just cant believe that **** like The Brave can out do so many other respectable tv series. Apart from SWAT I don't watch any of the others but I know Blue Bloods used to be huge and is very well respected.

Edit: I have just read both articles again and they are picking which figures they use to make it sound good. SWAT and Blue Bloods (don't know about the others) are 10+ million viewers a week and The Brave is only 8.

Paul 19-11-2017 23:10

Re: TV Schedule - Fall 2017/2018

Interestingly, 9JKL is also apparently for the chop, despite the extra episodes ;

Quote:

CBS has cancelled 9JKL after one season, according to reports.

Per insiders, the low-rated sitcom will not return for Season 2.
The early cancellation comes despite the network ordering back-up scripts last week.

I don't know and it is really flipping bugging me now. I didn't put that in yesterday, I did it a couple of weeks ago when I started updating the thread and the reason why I started updating it is because the site I use started posting articles for return dates. As I was going through them there was a article about The 100 and one of the side bits of info was the season 5 premiere date which I surprised about and I distinctly remember reading it because when I saw March I thought :wtf: which is why I put the  next to it. I wanted to give you a link to confirm it but I can't flipping find it now. I think they must have edited the article and removed it. The dates haven't been updated on my tv calendar or epguides yet either. I am going to leave it in there because I wouldn't have moved it off the TBC list if I wasn't absolutely sure and it defo isn't coming any time soon.

Out of all the recurring shows and the ones I've picked up. Agents of Shield has been the best. Such a great season for a show that seems to be getting better as it goes on yet faces the threat of cancellation. Hoping Disney can pull some strings again. Although it'll die if we start losing essential cast members.

General Maximus 05-02-2018 09:28

Re: TV Schedule - Fall 2017/2018

yeah, definitely better than the Marvel/Netflix series and given the competition with DC hopefully they'll keep it going even if they would normally cancel it going by whatever criteria they use. If they can keep shit like LoT going for the sake of another series being part of the DC universe then they can keep AoS going. If I had to choose between AoS and all the DC and Marvel/Netlix series put together, I would choose AoS because it is just so good.

I have just had a look at the figures and going by these you would think it is going to be cancelled so I do hope Disney do something special or at least show some respect to the Marvel universe and let them have a proper ending.

what happened to the swear filter?

The only consolation is that LoT is worse off that AoS. I know they are different networks but I don't like contradictions and double standards so if LoT stays hopefully AoS will.

I would be interested to know how AoS compares to the other Marvel series but sadly they aren't measured in the same way,

DC have fared better for their tv show on network tv. Wasn't till netflix got involved that Marvel got better.

I have done several updates this morning including adding some new series, check out The Crossing. By far the most important though is the season 2 return date for Westworld. It was a very pleasant but massive shock because for some reason I wasn't expecting it till next year (I thought it came out last year and not 2016). We have got some excellent scifi series going at the moment.

You get a thumbs down here :td:
There is nothing wrong with LoT, I love it and am looking forward to its return next week.

I also like AoS, although I was getting just a little fed up of the future setting, I'm glad to see them returning to Earth.

For the record, on most sites that follow the likelyhood of shows being renewed, LoT is considered to be an almost certainty, and AoS very likely.

Re: TV Schedule - Fall 2017/2018

I agree, I think LoT season 1 was truly awful, bad casting, bad characters. Season 2 rectified that but was essentially like starting again, season 3 nails it down and it the best of the three and arguably the best CW DCU show right now given how awful Arrow is and surprisingly how up and down The Flash is becoming.

Re: TV Schedule - Fall 2017/2018

The Arrow is laughable. I breathed a sign of relief when they broke up the team because I thought they were getting rid of the newbies but it has just got worse since. No matter what they do and how bad it is, they keep coming back to the same excuse of "well you spied on us" as if it is justification for everything. This is one of those annoying examples of bad script trumps common sense behaviour. I would love to do the season parody script for this which SFX sometimes do at the back of the mag,

Atm, I find myself lookig forward to LoT, Supergirl, and so far, Black Lightning.

I have to make an effort to watch the Flash as thats getting tiresome, and almost force myself to watch Arrow.

adzii_nufc 06-02-2018 12:00

Re: TV Schedule - Fall 2017/2018

Arrow will never recover unless CW actually wants it to. It needs a new creative team dedicated to it and not one they'll pull out from under it again when a new show needs to debut (That's what originally happened)

The Flash is still the headliner but the actual villain of the week episodes are becoming tiresome to watch. We're past Barry's learning phase that made those episodes interesting in the first place. The story arc is interesting enough but they need to start popping out better episodes for the monster episodes.

That leaves Lot for my main show nowadays and it's like a goofy more fun Timeless. I enjoy it. The characters have really grown since being a B show cast.

What about Supergirl? It is by far my favourite out of the 4.

Never picked it up yet, I have a severe lack of interest in anything relating to Superman. Man of Steel is the only thing I've ever enjoyed related to that. I assume others have similar feelings about other Comic Book heroes.

Re: TV Schedule - Fall 2017/2018

Foregoing a lecture i cannot emphasise enough how amazing Smallville is. It is a proper series with strong characters, great stories and depth. The current stuff is super hero cheese in comparison and all uses the same formular. Smallville sets the bar and if it was on now it would be my favourite series. The reason why i cant stand Man of Steel, BvS or any other iteration of Superman and Lois Lane etc is because for me it is Tom Welling and Smallville.

He'd fit in well as a regular. I'm surprised they haven't tried making him permanent member.

They're dabbling over whether a full season return is possible, first testing the waters with Season one on demand, then animation. His character and standalone show doesn't follow the superhero trend and it's something different to offer. If that doesn't come off then I foresee him making sporadic appearances across the Prime Universe shows, LoT, Flash & Arrow.

They'll undoubtedly be trawling through reactions to his appearances.

Loved the original and from that trailer I hope this is good. Looks like it sticks closer to source than the 90s movie did.

Some interesting info on the series here

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost...2018_TV_series)

Premise sounds a little different and Dr Smith is now female, played by a lovely actress too.

yup, and it has got Captain Flint in it from Black Sails and I thought he was excellent. I love space scifi more than any other genre of tv. Having The Expanse, Lost in Space and Westworld in April is going to make up for not having any GoT this year.

Just added a new series, Siren, which I think some peeps might be interested in. Airs on 30th March.

You may want to take a look at this, it started last night although I am not sure whether it airs on Channel 4 or Netflix:

Kiss Me First
Leila is a lonely 17 year old girl addicted to a fictional online gaming site called Agora. While playing on the platform, Leila meets Tess, a cool and confident party girl who harbours a dark secret. In the real world, the two girls become friends, but after Tess disappears Leila decides to assume her friend's identity and in doing so is quickly drawn into unravelling the mystery behind her disappearance.

I have it queued up ready to watch. Perhaps tonight.

Re: TV Schedule - Fall 2017/2018

I am not going to put it on the main list because I doubt many people will be interested. I am working my through the new issue of SFX and they have done a feature on a new scifi/post apocalyptic series called The Rain which sounds good and starts on Netflix on 4th May. The only problem is that it is in flipping (wanted to use the F word) Danish!

I know I am a bit late but I have only just found out. I have added the return dates for Colony season 3 and Six season 2. Also added a new scifi series called Reverie which starts at the end of May. Check it out.

Wynonna Earp returns on the same date as Killjoys (July 20th, in the US).

The 12 Monkeys final Season 4 starts on June 15th (US) for 4 weeks through to July 6th.

Similar to last year there will be multiple episodes each day - 3 episodes for the first three weeks, and 2 episodes the final week.
