Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

Bit of a suprise I've been away for just over a week and come back to 200mb BB seems VM are changing their packages again.

Although can't say I have had any info about it. I guess this means another price increase?

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

what is your config? Is it a new 200mbit config for a new 170mbit tier or is it the current 200mbit tier with the 230mbit config?

yeah you are on the current 200mbit tier. It will be interesting to see if this is a free upgrade or if it has been pushed through by accident due to a clerical error.

What were you on before?

Is that not actually the 200 tier that was the free upgrade from 152 or have I got it wrong?
I think the attached image shows the configuration of the current 200 service.

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

I was on 152mb then I moved to 200mb when the hub3 was on trial. when my wife lost her job last year we were out of contract managed to get a deal dropped to 100mb BB and kept the existing package XL TV -Tivo and weekend calls.

Still in the contract but came back from holiday on saturday and noticed I was on 200mb.

However looking at the VM packages at the moment the lowest BB they offer atm is 100mb but on my package selection 200mb is part of it so I guess they moved me upto that?

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

I just got upgraded at around 11am today?

There was a VM van around this morning working at th cab, which I thought was just normal work but I was testing a PowerLine plug installation when I got a speedtest of 20mb upload.

So I checked my Hub 3.0 and get this:

Primary Downstream Service Flow
SFID 48556
Max Traffic Rate 345000000
Primary Upstream Service Flow
SFID 19603
Max Traffic Rate 22010000

I guess/hope it's a free upgrade as I never asked for this! I was on 200mb up until today.

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

I have just checked mine and no change. I was getting quite excited for a second but I have a funny feeling I wouldn't get it anyway until I ring up for a shub3 which I ain't gonna do.

Could it possibly be a trial? See if the network can cope? Be nice if it was a free upgrade.

No, as my profile shows me on 300meg too.

The thing is, it's counted as a package change as my bill has a 3p credit on (lol!) but because I was on Full House bundle it shown the speed as the fastest it can be when it was 200mb with no option to upgrade. Now out of the blue it upgrades without warning.

Ah, could be a change to what is supplied in the bundle then? Perhaps BenMcr may know better. Normally VM like to make sure everyone knows if there is going to be a speed upgrade (then delay it for a few months), don't usually do it on the quiet.

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

I got excited when I logged into MyVm and seen a "Your speed boost is complete!" message. Except it was telling me I'd been boosted to 200Meg.

Which I've been on for like....a year or so now, if not longer.

mine says the same

Interesting. Still on 200 gamer as I always have been, no freebies for me (yet!)

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

Now I'm just confused. Consideriimg that 300mb wasn't even an upgrade option for me, how and why has this suddenly happened!

Synthetic 08-06-2017 20:32

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

Sounds like a clerical cock up somewhere!

Gavin78 08-06-2017 21:14

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

wasn't sure they could change your package and price without at least letting you know?

Stop It 16-06-2017 11:14

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

And now it's back to 200mb with a £2 credit on my account.

It now says a complimentary upgrade on my bills section but if that's true why has it been taken off? Really confused!

Edit: Apparently my account was used as a guinea pig for testing the possibility of the area going to 300mb. Whoever done it then changed me up to 200mb Gamer and took £5 a month off my package.

Because reasons, but hey no complaints here.

Kushan 16-06-2017 13:24

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

Hmm, that's worrying all the same, nobody should be changing your package without your consent and definitely not without informing you. As in, that's not entirely legal.

I suspect you've been given the discount/credit to prevent you from complaining because you'd have every right to do so.

But hey, at least you've benefited!

Guessing they're hoping no one is going to complain about a free (temp) upgrade :D

I know! Normally when they test higher speeds they just up the provision on the modem so this was a very weird way to test it.

I may hit up 150 just to clarify why my account was used in this way. I suspect my account is flagged as I tested the Hub 3 and signed up as available for nearly any trial going but still a little notification would have been welcomed.

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

Strangely, my account has also been upgraded from 100mb to 200. I only knew about this because I got an email telling me about this "free" upgrade. I have a sh2, and over wifi can only get 110 ish meg (link speed says 150mb) with a wired connection I can get nearly 200, so do I need to ask for a newer router (2ac or 3) or is there some wifi setting I need to change to get the full speed?

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

I received a mailshot in the post today saying that I'd been upped from 100 to 200 Mbps.

Speed test says 11.1 download and 11.7 upload.

I have a SH2.

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

There is a lot of this atm. It cant be random and there has got to be some logic behind it. If it is a new wave of upgrades i am glad they didnt announce it and are just doing it because it saves the waiting and constant delays on the rollout schedule. I just wonder if all the 200mbit customers are going to be upgraded to 300mbits.

Synthetic 27-06-2017 09:49

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

Interesting, somehow I can't see them giving us a free boost to 300 though :(

General Maximus 27-06-2017 11:03

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

why not? the other tiers seems to be getting double. This has happened before where you have had marginal upgrades for the top tier from 100 to 120, 120 to 150 and 150 to 200. In the past the network couldn't handle it but we know it can now because 300 is already available through Homeworks.

Re: Been away for a week (moved to 200mb)

EDIT: Spoke to Virgin and they have no knowledge of any free speeds boosts happening, would still cost me £8/m to upgrade from 200 gamer.

Wouldn't be surprised if first line just hadn't been told about it though, where's Ben when you need him :p:

(Apologies for double post)

Just checked my modem and i've gone from 16 to 24 downstreams, so I'll be keeping an eye out for a config change, not sure if the 2 would go hand in hand though.

You've gone from 800Mb to 1200Mb of shared bandwidth with the increase in downstreams, so maybe. Or it could just be to help alleviate any congestion.

I guess it's for future expansion, never witnessed any congestion in the 7 months I've been where I am, last i heard usage levels were only getting about 40% anyway.

Fingers crossed I see a boost in the near future.

No surprise there. Often they are a waste of time, particularly that foreign call centre.

The call centre staff are not properly trained or briefed on anything like that.

Well I have received an email saying I have gone from 70 to 100 with no price increase. I did not request it.
