Kelvin Mackenzie suspended by The Sun

Sun suspends Kelvin MacKenzie after racial hate complaint

About time this repulsive turd got his comeuppance. Doubtless he'll be back next week, after Sun readers have forgotten, he's Rupert's favourite after all. Don't think Liverpool will ever forget though.

A obnoxious man from top to bottom who should have been out of his job a long time ago IMO.

Yes, sadly just suspended (until some people forget about it), not sacked.

The real question is how he managed to sneak it into The Sun before they suspended him for what they published. :erm:

Everton ban The Sun from their ground and training facilities.

I suspect that being around half-term and Easter the paper may have been light in editorial top staff. Did Mackenzie as an ex-editor know this and time his piece accordingly so it got published as a final two fingers to Liverpool or is he just inept?
Surely The Sun's editor would have instructed him to steer away from writing anything about the city of Liverpool?

Surely The Sun's editor should have done his job and vetoed anything that should not be published?

I've never heard of Ross Barkley so it's all lost on me. If I'd seen the article, it wouldn't have occurred to me that there was implied 'racism'. Surely reader perception is at least part of the issue?

I happen to have read the column and I think this is a total overreaction by generation snowflake that can't take a little bit of ribbing. :(

A bit dumb maybe, hardly racist, just more OTT reactions.

The internet seems to have turned people into super sensitives who get offended by anything.

I feel sorry for the generations to come, everyone will be afriad to have an opinion unless its sanctioned by the social media brigade.

l certainly am not offended by the remarks but l do think that Kelvin Mackenzie is a very obnoxious individual who personally l find very offensive and have done for a long while now but others might think differently of course.

What it's done is make it easy for them to express all that outrage (faux or otherwise), disgust or whatever without even getting out of their armchairs. I dare say it makes some of them feel better too whilst others are so sad they just get off on stirring up trouble wherever and however they can.

While i agree that there is an over reaction if it rids us of KM for once I'm happy to ignore it as he really is an unpleasant person (family forum I'm being very polite) and a perfect example of what journalism shouldn't be.

Something can be offensive if it is affects you personally.

Being offended on behalf of someone else is a scourge on society.

Kelvin McKenzie is an odious individual but I am not offended by what he has written.

And as for Joey Barton speaking out against what was written.....seriously???

Joey Barton comes from the Liverpool City area (Huyton) and Mackenzie was insulting Liverpudlians so according to you he has a reason to be offended.

Mackenzie has always been quite nasty. This was a Sun editorial in 1989:

Racial undertones......perhaps. But that is not the issue in my opinion.

McKenzie obviously hates Liverpool, he hates it because he got it wrong over Hilsborough.

So he saw an opportunity to have a go at Liverpool again. Yes Kelvin all young wealthy people in the North West must be drug dealers........ etc etc.

The Sun's circulation in Merseyside was tiny anyway this is just a further nail in the rags demise.

Doesn't make his opinion any less valid. I also don't think he taking any moral "high ground". His home town has been insulted, again, by somebody even more reprehensible than himself so he is entitled to comment.

I doubt he's ever claimed that! Do you really want to ban people from reacting to their home town being insulted unless they meet your strict moral criteria? That sounds like an approach more at home in ISIS than the UK.

So it seems kinda hard for pretty much any of them to be offended really, since virtually none will have even seen it.

If you dont like his views, dont read them, why the need these days to make a massive fuss about everything

I am merely highlighting the hypocrisy of someone equally, if not more, offensive than McKenzie crying about being offended...... ;)

He certainly is, but he has access to massive media platform called the Sun over which he is using to propagate that hatred. Which is an abuse of his position.

Would it be ok for say, Piers Morgan to use his slot on morning television to profess his hatred for Newcastle, fat geordies, and geordie slags?

Well they won't via the Sun, but every news media outlet is running the story so hard to escape it.

I'm not making a massive fuss, just commenting on discussion forum, as are you, so you're making as much fuss as me.

Also wouldn't usually have read it, but as I say it's on every news outlet, so when I see the headline " McKenzie in Barkley race slur" as a scouser and Everton fan, I'm going to read it. Is that alright with you like? Or do I need to have someone proof read everything for me so I can avoid what I might not like in the world according to Paul?

He's not crying, he's sticking up for his home town. And is anything that Joey Barton has written or said remotely more offensive than the lies Mackenzie published about the 96 men, women and children who perished at Hillsborough?

Writing isn't his strong point what with being a thick twonk and all that..:)

Put him on a football pitch and he repeatedly offends thousands of people....

Most people (at least in my experience) would probably agree with you if you listed all the bad points of where they come from. They also probably wouldn't mind if you said you hated it. If you referred to people who come from that place as murderers, rapists, drug addicts, they might have reason to be offended. Similarly if you spent years inferring that they (as a community) were responsible for the deaths of 96 people, they might have reason to be offended.

Hell, I am proud to be a Londoner, and would happily agree with you that a lot of Londoners are, to put it mildly, aholes, but I would get offended if you then went on to suggest that all of us are.

I actually agree. People these days are too easily offended. There are far more important things to worry about than what some 2 bit hack working for a newspaper based hundreds of miles away says about you.

That said, I suspect most companies not react well to ANY employee saying the things Kelvin Mackenzie did, and most would have sacked him for gross misconduct after the first time.

The Sun, for whatever reason, appear to be being lenient. Something which, in the long term, I don't think will be good for them.
