Re: Catch up

The latest episode's of Sky programs Criminal Minds,Blacklist Redemption, Lucky Man,Hawaii Five-O,Arrow,The Flash and Elementary missing from catch up on my Vhd box,is this also to do with the above mentioned issues or something else? Normally Sky programs are available on demand soon after being shown on their respected channel's.

Yes, I believe so. Hopefully we will be back to normal soon.

Stay calm, Max - just a computer glitch!

All back to normal now. I was still able to use the cable service, but couldn't get into on demand or the apps, and the recordings side of it was slow (although not as slow as the old Tivo could be at times!!).

This is the only problem I have had with the V6 since it was set up properly and all is back to normal now.

I'm still so glad I ordered my two V6 boxes and I would never go back.

Taf 31-03-2017 12:42

Re: Catch up

It was not just Catchup. I tried to set a series link yesterday and the spinning disk appeared and locked all controls for 15 minutes. So I powered the TIVO box down with its front power button. 10 minutes to restart!

From the VM forums

Quote:

For most of our affected customers, this issue is resolved.

Please reboot your TiVo set-top boxes and service will be restored.

If a reboot does not fix this please use your remote and go to Home>Help and Settings> Settings> Network> Connect to Virgin Media Servers and follow the on screen instructions.

You won't have to remain on this screen while the servers reconnect but this method is not instantaneous so please allow up to an hour for re-connection to take place.

If after carrying out a forced reset as detailed above you still cannot access On Demand services, please call our TV Faults team on 150 or 0345 454 1111. Please be aware that there may be high call volumes at present, leading to an extended wait.

Thanks, and apologies for any inconvenience.
Neither option has worked here

You can't for on demand as it's a service provided for free

RichardCoulter 01-04-2017 01:52

Re: Catch up

Mine was off for a day and I received compensation upon request without any problem.

In the NTL days I was told that "I couldn't complain as the service was free"!

I told her that I regarded the service as an integral part of what I paid for, that it was not for her to decide what customers complain about and that I would complain to the regulator if nothing was done. I received compensation until the fault was rectified.

If enough people complain and cost them money it will hopefully lead to improvements, but if people are happy to put up with this I'm sure VM will be happy to let them.

As a catch up /on demand service Virgin really do lag along way behind Sky now. Not sure why they've allowed it to fall so far behind Sky? It's an old, stuttering service that's very much 'hit and miss' these days.

Watching the BBC i-player always was problematical on the old Tivo and I ended up resorting to my Smart TV to watch that and Netflix.

The new V6 has eliminated these problems and I no longer use the smart TV to get into either.

Not sure how it all works but maybe they're concentrating all their resources on the new box and as a result the rest of the service is suffering?

How can that be true, OB, when Virgin have acknowledge that their is indeed a problem with the catch up service, i'm sure some people on here are having problems with it and they have a V6!

But that was a temporary technical glitch. With the old box, it had been slowing down markedly over the last couple of years and the BBC I-player was virtually unusable. The V6 is like a breath of fresh air and restores their position as a leading TV provider (shame about the content).

Doesn't look as though it's just confined to the old TiVo, OB, seems to be affecting both, the air not so fresh now......:D

Its very much a slight short term problem which will get sorted out very quickly and is certainly not representative of the V6 IMO as my unbiased opinion is its a very good box which has run beautifully since we had our 2 installed.

I am on the PC now because Catch Up is not available again for me and my Tivo. We only use Catch up rather than recordings and it seems most nights it is not available, please try later.
I switch off at the mains then go to settings/connect to VM services and wait until it completes, then when I go to catch Up, Not Available!!!!!
We have lost confidence in the Tivo box but it will cost us too much to change to the V6.

No error code just Catch up not available try again later 319
Not contacted CS yet but I will be doing so if things do not improve.
Last night I tried to watch the taxi prog, the Knowledge, this kept coming up 319 but not error, I tried going through the Days, Channels and Search functions but after putting the pin code in, up came the not available.
Last night I switched off at the mains until this morning, the wife wants to watch Broadchurch and Victoria Wood tonight, these are both available this morning but the Knowledge is not.
In the past I have had Error C501 a lot.
Thanks for all of your help.

Catch up and on demand not been working on my parents TiVo since yesterday morning. No error code like yours. Search facility not working either. If you scroll back through the EPG a few days it gets stuck. You have to switch it on and off. Parents live in EH51 post code area.

Re: Catch up

Error 319 means that programme hasn't been loaded onto your region's VOD servers yet. Wait a day or two and it should arrive.

C501 is usually a temporary outage. There have been a couple of those in the past week. Again, try again a bit later.

Thanks for taking the trouble spiderplant.
For the best Catch Up experience will we be better going for the V6 box when my contract ends in September?

I am not sure if it causes a problem but my TV and Tivo is downstairs in the front room, my PC and Super Hub are upsatirs in a back room.
It is a 4 bed detached and both units are adjacent to the same outside wall.

Just wondered spiderplant, is this a fairly recent change then?

I seem to recall a while back, that the menu listings for OD were fed regionally while the "search" options came nationally - and that often resulted in the same issue if I remember.

Or maybe that was V+ not Tivo.

Error 319 will affect both V6 and TiVo equally, because it's a fault at the headend. C501 is a bit less predictable, but it's a rare fault anyway.

Hard to predict how well a V6 would work for you on Wi-Fi. You might need Powerlines, or to have the SuperHub relocated.

Error 319 was "introduced" by the software update last autumn. Previously the listings came from your local servers as well as the programmes, so if a programme was missing you wouldn't be able to try to play it. Now the listings are centralised and things can get listed before they have been uploaded to each of the regions.

It doesn't mean more content is missing, but previously you'd usually be oblivious.

The long term plan is to hold the content centrally, which will make the problem go away completely.

Re: Catch up

Are they ever going to get the catch up fixed? There have been no Channel 4 programmes since last Tuesday (11th). On the service status page it was supposed to be have been fixed last Saturday, then today but the latest is now Friday 21/04.

These are some of the progs that are missing:

Wed 12/04 The 100 ep2
Thr 13/04 The Good Fight ep3
Fri 14/04 Gogglebox, Spin ep1
Sun 16/04 Homeland (the last in series), Agents of Shield ep11
Mon 17/04 Warship ep2, Empire ep12

Given that the progs remain on the system for only 7 days I've more or less accepted I'll miss a couple of weeks worth of my favourite shows. And that is not to mention other channels with shows that appear infrequently - if at all.

I can't remember the service ever being this bad and I'm beginning to wonder why I should bother keeping and paying for TV at all. The only thing that stops me dumping it now is that I'm not sure what I could replace it with.

You'll probably find the online www version of 4OD has longer availability than 7days. I've used that option once or twice over the years.

Appreciate it's not the same as a full-screen TV, but better than nothing...

It does seem to be having a bad run of late, that's for sure. It'd be interesting to know if it's a problem with supply of content "into" Virgin, or the provision "within" Virgin.

As this as dragged on for so long I think Virgin should knock something off our bills as 'a good will gesture'. I know it's been argued that on demand isn't a right so to speak but I still think we should expect better than what we're currently getting.

I don't have much dealing with the TV service nowadays, so I could be completely wrong but spider will know the answer. Am I right in saying that Sky Box Office isn't in HD on VM?

Still finding catch up TV/on demand very poor. Catch up programmes from sky channels are taking an age to become available. Not sure if this is Virgin's fault or Sky's? They used to be so much better. Sky programmes were available on demand within hours of being broadcast but now take days!
