Only the lawyers win. Unless you're on very solid ground the courts are the last place to get redress.

No seriously, what exactly is she famous for?

Never mind just used Wikipedia, though still none the wiser really.

I had to look her up as well, the name seemed familiar, but didnt know why.

.. and Jack Monroe is, rather confusing, female, apparently.

Re: Katie Hopkins loses libel case

To be honest when I saw the Tweet in question I thought the case looked weak, the tweet seems just typical passive aggressive nonsense.

That said I don't have much sympathy for her. Her entire job is to dance close to the edge so she can't complain when she gets caught going over it. She is one of those people whose entire professional purpose seems to be to inject a shot of poison into the public discourse. She isn't a contrarian, or someone that writes 'unpopular truths' that would otherwise go unsaid, she is just someone who writes nasty stuff to shock and gets paid to do it.

Osem 11-03-2017 11:01

Re: Katie Hopkins loses libel case

The thing is that what she actually said/wrote was far less offensive or harmful than a huge amount of stuff posted in places like the twittersphere. Her mistake was getting the wrong target and refusing to accept the remedial action offered to her. I dare say she'll be reflecting on that at her leisure.

She could form the "Hopkins" party, and try for a majority in the next election and become Prime Minister.

The Monarchy has nothing to do with it.

Come on CF let's crowd-fund Katie's court costs. All contributors to this thread are in for £10 - well done all!:cleader::cleader::cleader::cleader::cleader:

Perhaps the action of clicking a link generates advertising revenue to which you would be an inadvertent contributor?

The now-deleted tweet, made in the hours after the explosion, read: "22 dead - number rising. Schofield. Don't you even dare. Do not be a part of the problem. We need a final solution #Machester (sic)."

Terrible phrasing, I can only assume given her previous that she did it on purpose

Re: Katie Hopkins loses libel case

You can assume anything you like, but thats all it is, an assumption.

I know little of this person, but from what I read, seems just as likely that people are looking for any excuse, and making something out of nothing.

I'm quite sure people are looking for "final solutions" to problems all the time, without anyone giving the phrase a second thought.

It's hard not to read as 'the' final solution, especially given her record for trying to provoke people. I don't think I am alone in what I understand that phrasing to mean given how infamous it is. It appears LBC did too.

People like Hopkins seek to provoke by pushing it and pushing it and oftentimes they step too far.

Really, I don't think I've ever had the thought, what this situation needs right now is a final solution, have you ever thought those exact words? They're not words most people would associate together unless they're thinking of nazis

I was thinking more in general to a variety of different scenarios even mundane things like losing keys. I'm not sure about the candle lit vigils that take place after atrocities, think I lean more toward not being a fan of them or not being a fan of the attention they garner to be specific
