Royal Mail to increase stamp prices from next month

http://news.sky.com/story/royal-mail...month-10780185

The Royal Mail must think that the general public are mugs. They will increase the cost of a stamp from March.

The postal service is that bad, that most customers are using couriers to deliver mail.

And they now also charge extra money for delivering a larger envelope. If you buy cards - like me you can get a cheap, but good card for £1.00 it not cost 65p for a first class. And no guarantee it will be delivered the following day.

What they should do is scrap both stamps, and have just one stamp covering all letters.

title changed to something more meaningful.

First class is not actually guaranteed for next day. Never has.

They are making less money due to rising costs and people send less mail so need to make it up somehow.

Then why do they offer 1st class and 2nd class post?

I sent a envelope and paid for 1st class recorded at my local main post office and it took 5 days to be delivered!

All it says on the RM site is they aim to deliver 1St class the next working day. Second class they aim to deliver in 2-3 working days.

If stamps get any more expensive it would be cheaper to hand deliver it.

RM is still far better and cheaper then most other services IMO.

No it wouldn't

I think they should just up it to £1.

Scrap 2nd class.

That would be for stamps. Obviously business post would have different rates.

We do most things on-line that used to involve mail delivery. Simple: If you want the service you have to pay a realistic price for it.

and ?

1. Its delivered, daily, so its not "bad".

2. "most customers" are not using couriers to deliver mail.

Actually partly true.

Some companies are using TNT Mail, which if I remember correctly use their parcel service as the backbone.

I don't mind paying a reasonable fee for post what i do mind is letters and parcels arriving at their destination with money taken out of cards and parcels looking like the bomb squad has had a go at them and it's been going on for years. My wife now catches national express to cardiff and takes birthday and xmas presents down that way and it's a lot cheaper then using royal mail and all gifts arrive in good condition and she isn't bound by our stupid limitations on posting.

Re: Royal Mail to increase stamp prices from next month

The Royal Mail have stated that FIRST CLASS post IS delivered the following day. ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY.

A very good family friend - sadly passed away.Used to work at the largest sorting office in the UK in London. Told us, that FIRST CLASS is the following day. And SECOND CLASS is THREE DAYS later.

There is a sorting office near me in Isleworth, and the posties that work there have told me that due to the poor management, the starting times have now been changed.

Posties used to start at 4am to sort mail. Thiss has not been changed to 6am.

This is WHY post is late.

I have had post delivered at 5pm. It used to be from 8am in the morning. and Second delivery at 12pm. This has now been scrapped.

This is why the Royal Mail is going down the plug hole

Thanks to the coalition it's now a private company whose primary role is to create a profit, not provide a service. Hence the large increase in prices since privatisation. The health service next.
You voted for it folks...

Re: Royal Mail to increase stamp prices from next month

Arthur, it's at least 7yrs since First Class was guaranteed next day delivery and since sorting started at 4am.

It's all down to cost cutting due to the downturn in mail being sent. People now use the internet to keep in touch more than sending mail.

It is NOT next day. They will TRY to deliver next day but since the later sorting times and stopping the second deliveries then it may not always get there next day.

also many sorting offices and delivery offices were cut and reduced in number.

The last time we used the post was at christmas time 3 years ago and of the £50 in various cards for the grandkids only £20 arrived and of the twelve parcels only 5 were delivered all of them badly damaged and one had to be collected from cardiff sorting office where most of the contents were there but in a clear plastic bag nothing left of the boxes or wrapping and we had a similar experience in the previous 2 years as well. Others had a similar experience and royal mail were a joke when we contacted them basically saying that at times customers would have such issues due to the highly automised processes now in use for greater efficiency. Cheaper, safer and easier for the wife to catch a bus down and gives her a break from me into the bargain.

Yep, Christmas/birthday cards are a well known target for thieves. I hardly use the post any more and would never send anything of value that way.
