Sky Sports for free?
I've been a virgin TV subscriber for several years, but have only occasionally paid for Sky sports, the last time was 7 months ago. I have just noticed that I can access all the Sky sports channels in SD, despite not being currently being subscribed. I can't get them in HD though. Is this standard now?

I have also been hand picked for this offer. The plus side is this should stop my weekly calls trying to get ne to take Sky Sports.

As Den says it's a competitive market making it more challenging for all the traditional pay providers. |
Re: Sky Sports for free?
So who would Sky Sports be competing with, over the Sky Sports channels? Won't cost Sky that much to give it out for free for a period of time as they already "own" the content.

Sky Sports isn't the only player in town now BT has a pretty decent offering sure it has less key sporting rights than Sky but then it can be had included with your package on both VM and the BT TV platform. If what I'm trying to say is incorrect and everything with Sky Sports subscriptions is hunky dory explain why Sky are having to offer so many freebies and half price discounts for periods of 9 and 12 months something they've never had to do before. I'm not suggesting Sky can't afford to discount but they clearly have to now to tempt people to subscribe. |

Re: Sky Sports for free?
I just received the email this evening but it is still greyed out even in SD, I will switch off and reboot and see if this does the trick.
I wonder if the powers that be can see from my Tivo box that I watch Sky Sports News a lot. Also about a year ago I had SS for 30 days over Christmas and New Year. Anyway Thanks, I just hope this is a free lunch full stop.:D |

Received the email today, Sky sports free for six weeks. Only in SD.
Won't be subscribing through. |
Re: Sky Sports for free?
Got the email today and Watching SKY sports, quick questions what was the criteria of choosing certain customers for this promotion?
|
Re: Sky Sports for free?
Any official word from Virgin yet? No Sky here on the HD XL package and been a customer since the old NTL days.

spider
Thanks for the heads up, I am still greyed out, if no SS in the morning I will ring faults. |
Re: Sky Sports for free?
I'm gobsmacked by this offer from Virgin, really am, so in effect people like me and thousands of others who pay through the nose for the sports pack, are basically subsidising others who don't have it, and Virgin are dressing this up as a sweetener to entice new customers into taking the Sky sports pack, unbelievable!

I suppose they are giving this offer to customers who are on the highest bundle that does not include SKY Sports! |

But whoever has been the brains behind this offer (let's be honest it'll be Sky) really should have thought about their existing customers as well. They are maybe relying a bit too much on people retaining Sky Sports without stopping to think about it. ---------- Post added at 08:37 ---------- Previous post was at 08:35 ---------- Quote:

Press Home on your remote Select Help & Settings Select Help Select TV Care from the top bar Select Missing channels Select Refresh my channel list to check for missing channels, and to get your TiVo box automatically updated if they are missing. ...and they showed up. |

Re: Sky Sports for free?
Flicking round the channels last night and noticed that I have the free Sky Sports promotion but I havnt had an email. If it wasnt for this thread,I would have known nothing about it.
Although I find it hard to watch anything in SD these days so I probably won't be watching it much. |

|
Re: Sky Sports for free?
Hope those who do have the channels double check when its ended or they will be charged everything VM do needs a engineer or a phone call to fix theres no automated anything on there service lol.

The channels will just be inaccessible once the 6 months is up, Virgin won't just automatically charge all their customers for Sky Sports. |
Re: Sky Sports for free?
Shouldn't get billed as it doesn't even appear as a free item on the bill. It isn't on my most recent bill from yesterday.
|
Re: Sky Sports for free?
And I havnt asked for it or even had an email about it
|
Re: Sky Sports for free?
Still no email even though I've had the channels since the 1st weekend this offer started
|
Re: Sky Sports for free?
When did the offer start Gavin?

Perhaps some people have opted out of being updated by email from VM so VM are not allowed to inform them of this offer

Re: Sky Sports for free?
Keeo getting E mails telling I have this. Message to whom ever is sending tem
I DON`T WANT IT !!!!!!;) |
Re: Sky Sports for free?
Ive only watched it once. The SD is terrible. Its like going back to watching tv in the 70's. I suppose Ive been spoilt over the years watching tv in HD and 4K.

Re: Sky Sports for free?
Thinking of getting the half price sky sports offer but does anyone know if taking it ties you into your Virgin contract for another 12 months? I believe you can cancel sky sports with 30 days notice. Just don't want to be locked into my Virgin contract for another 12 months.

However - if you get premium channels bundled into your package to get a discounted price, then cancelling any part of that package does run the risk of losing any or all discounts. VM-staffers on here can probably confirm better.. |
