Scumbag 'human rights lawyer' to be struck off

Quote:

A human rights lawyer who brought claims of torture and murder against British troops has admitted misconduct charges, a tribunal has heard.
Phil Shiner, lead solicitor for the now defunct firm Public Interest Lawyers, accepted nine allegations of acting without integrity and recklessness.
The tribunal heard that Mr Shiner accepted the charges meant he will be struck off at the end of the case.
The MoD has spent more than £100m on Iraq-related claims since 2004.
Among the charges against him, Mr Shiner accepted an allegation that he acted recklessly by claiming at a press conference in February 2008 that the Army had unlawfully killed, tortured and mistreated Iraqi civilians.
Mr Shiner admitted nine more charges in part, accepting he acted without integrity but denying dishonesty.

Let's hope being struck off isn't the only punishment meted out to this character.

I hope the phrase "You'll never work in this town again" also rings true.

Plenty more lined-up to fill their pockets when he leaves.

I also hope the MoD persues compensation from him and leaves him pennieless, as I hope any of our armed forces whose career was comprimised by false allegations.

How about he is sued into financial oblivion and jailed for a very long time for perverting the course of justice.

The shamed far-left lawyer Phil Shiner is before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal for his role in the vexatious claims against British soldiers who served in Iraq. An old CND comrade of Jeremy Corbyn, Shiner’s firm Public Interest Lawyers has already been closed down in disgrace and now Shiner faces 24 charges of his own. He has today admitted 18 of those charges, including that he acted recklessly and without integrity. The Law Society Gazette reports:

One can only hope he will be stripped of all his assets and that they are donated to deserving forces causes.

I wonder if lefty comics like the guardian will now tell the truth about him in their editorials...

We'll he's finally been struck off.

I hope this isn't the end of the matter and he'll now be on the receiving end of some tough justice.

More will be lining up to take his place, but with a bit more forethought before attacking our brave lads.

They might take his place in the type of cases he is going for but if they do so in the way he did then hopefully they'll be struck off too.

Getting struck off is a start but only that he needs to be hit with the full force of the law and made an example of so that nobody does anything like this in future. I won't wait for certain media to be as critical of him and he will probably retain some sympathy from some jounalists.

A couple of months in the glasshouse would have given him valuable time to reflect on what rights he deserves. ****

Re: Scumbag 'human rights lawyer' to be struck off

Good news but I wonder if the Shadow Attorney General might wish to reflect on her copious words of praise for Mr Shiner and his associates.

Quote:

In 2007 Shami and Shiner worked together on cases of Iraqi abuse allegations, telling the media that abuse by British troops was not a case of a “few bad apples” but “systemic”.

In 2008 Shami lavished praise on Shiner:

“His relentless work on behalf of the families of British soldiers and Iraqi civilians demonstrates the even-handedness of human rights.”

In 2011, at the conclusion of the Baha Mousa inquiry, Shami said that Shiner and his team of lawyers had

“brought honour to their profession”
Shami’s support for Shiner continued well after the allegations against him came to light. In 2015 Shami suggested Shiner was the victim of a witch hunt by the government:

“I know the dangers of governments threatening human rights lawyers for their work. It happens in dark parts of the world and is not good for the rule of law.”
https://order-order.com/2017/02/06/h...ported-shiner/

Somehow I doubt it...

The disgraced lawyer who led the “witch hunt” against Iraq war veterans that cost the British taxpayer £100 million has declared himself bankrupt, meaning he could now avoid paying his debts.

Phil Shiner, who was struck off as a solicitor for dishonesty and is now facing a criminal investigation, sold his home to his two daughters just a few weeks before applying for bankruptcy.

Shiner, 60, was made insolvent on Tuesday just 48 hours after filling in an online form with the Government’s Insolvency Service.

Quelle surprise...

They can take the home back to pay the creditors I think. You can't give everything away and declare bankruptcy IIRC.

Yes, if you tried that before moving into care the Council would nab you.

He didn't give everything away, he sold the house and presumably has been able to account for the funds realised. I have a feeling Shiner will have taken legal advice before doing this and concluded it was worthwhile. Given his track record, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he gets away with it and that'll be more proof that the law is indeed an ass.

I wonder if the Shadow Attorney General is still as impressed with this guy as she was not all that long ago.

A (presumed) below market value sale is tantamount to giving away at least a proportion. He shouldn't be allowed to squirm out of anything but as you say he will have checked.

Maybe but if he was such a good lawyer he wouldn't be in this situation ;)

One of the biggest complaints about this case is that the soldier concerned is being used as a political scapegoat, might be classier not to go down this road to imho

Fine, I do question who you're pointing her out to though, I mean it's hardly a secret how out of her depth she is or that her moral indignation is greater than the sum of her talent, in fact for me the only mystery with shami chakrabarti is that how someone with a foot seemingly perpetually wedged in her mouth hasn't choked to death yet.
