Go back in time
Just for a bit of fun;
If you could go back in time and relive any three years as yourself, knowing what you know now, what years would you pick, and why (they dont have to be consecutive years). My initial thoughts were I'd pick ; 1976, the year of the really hot summer, when I was still at school. 1984, I was working for BT, installing PBX systems, and just bought my first house. 2000, started with a bang (lots of them in fact !), working at Experian, with three (still young) daughters, a year I remember fondly. There are many others I could equally pick, but these were the ones I thought of first. (and please, lets just ignore the fact you could make tons of money by knowing the future). |
Re: Go back in time
1975 - when I met my first wife, to ensure I didn't (she lost me my RAF career, my children from that marriage, and all my worldly goods (apart from two suitcases of clothes)).
1989 - I left a small software house to work for one of their customers, but was made redundant 15 months later after I had done all the work for them in NZ. 2012 - my daughter's wedding, and I'd would have let myself cry with happiness, rather than looking grim-faced trying to hold back my emotions. Having said that, for the first two, I wouldn't be with the woman I love for the last 30 years if my first marriage hadn't split up, and I wouldn't be where I am in my career if I hadn't been made redundant - after that, I moved from software development into project and line management. I would still like to visit 2012 again, though, as my daughter's wedding was one of the happiest days of my life. |
Re: Go back in time
So many years and events, and so difficult to choose but here goes......
1969 - At 21 I was legally allowed to get married to the man I still love to-day. 1981 - following 9 months incarcerated in a hospital bed our son was born. 2013 - despite the odds I was still alive to see my Grandson born. There are very few years I would not revisit if given the opportunity, if only to reassure my younger self that bad things can often lead to good, but those above are my milestone years that I will never wish to forget. |

Re: Go back in time
2000 - A miracle device was implanted in me that saved my life as l only had 24 hours to live so that was a very important year as l would not be here now if it was not for that
2011 - After being estranged for 40 years from my real blood Mum there was a big reconciliation There are others but these are the ones that mean the most to me. |

1978: I would buy 100s of packages of GOLDEN GRAIN MACARONI AND CHEDDER (My favourite mac and cheese ever (They went outta business in 1986)) 1988: I would goto my elementary school and get tons of Hamburgers loaded with catchup nd Cheese Pizza!! (I loved the school food) then goto my middle school and get tons of cabbage salad!! (Oh my I loved it like crazy) I had them write the recipe down for me and I had my mom make it but it wasnt nearly as good :( 1995: I would buy 1000s of dollars worth of plain M&Ms as in 2000 they were changed to SKIM MILK instead of WHOLE MILK and to me dont really taste good anymore...... This thread makes me sad............ |

Re: Go back in time
1982 - I wouldn't have gone to South Bolton 6th Form College if I'd known what an academic bureaucratic nightmare it would be. Doing A-level physics and chemistry with no lab equipment? What?!
There should've been an inquiry - why were students who'd had As and Bs at O-Level suddenly getting Cs or worse? I would've asked. 1985 - when I turned down an unsolicited offer from Sheffield Polytechnic. A 3-year HND course (4 with industrial placement), studying everything I was interested in - IT, chip design, lasers, holography, fibre optics. Had I taken it I'd have had an HND just when the IT and telecommunication industries were screaming for them. But I decided against owing to past experience: my Mum applied for a grant while I was at South Bolton, I forget what, and we got only a fraction. So I thought I'd get the same, i.e. not the full amount. It wasn't until 1989 that I discovered HND grants were not only mandatory, I'd have gotten extra for living away from home. I know you should let go of the past, but it was such a monumental mistake I'm still kicking myself after 30-odd years. Can't think of a third year. In terms of quality my life has been up and down like a tart's knickers since '85. |

Re: Go back in time
But at 8 years old most people wouldn't even notice if a new thread was created as its technically a dead thread after that long.

Re: Go back in time
Very interesting question as I am in the rocess of re-evaluating my life right now.
Probanbly go back to the summer of 2010, I'd been working and decided to just book a holiday on my own to the south of France. Ended up doing what I wanted, meeting greqat people, and having an awesome time, eating amazing food, and swimmin gin the sea each day. I'l always remember the day my children were born. That is such a special moment in my life. Apart from that I feel like some parts could be erased. That would be good if that could happen. |
Re: Go back in time
Other than go back to a time to when my parents were alive I don't think I could change anything else even if I wanted to. At least I don't have that 'what if' if I made other choices.
