Plan to block porn sites

Quote:

Porn websites face being blocked to people in the UK if they fail to check users are over 18, under government plans.

The plans would give the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) powers to block porn sites based in the UK and overseas which did not verify ages.

Ofcom's guidance on age checks for online video content suggest a range of options - from confirmation of credit card ownership to cross-checking a user's details with information on the electoral register.

Yes, kids should be proected from porn, but is this the right way to go?

Yeah, like people will willingly give their credit card details to a porn site. And UK government giving porn sites access to the Electoral Register? :dozey:

The Great Censorship starts. Or is that "continues".

its the parents job to check what kids are doing -and why 18 to watch porn why not 16 .

isn't the porn filter already opt-out on all major ISPs. I guess that idea didn't work :/

Re: Plan to block porn sites

The best porn filter is decent parenting ,the government wouldn't need to interfere if some parents actually paid attention to their offspring

Re: Plan to block porn sites

Parenting is the only effective measure unfortunately there are many parents who wont do well. however trying to block porn though it maybe with the best intentions ( I have doubts about the intentions ) . will fail the parent who see this as good and will help them will find that the very knowledge that there are blocked / banned things out there will lead the curios to bypass any block or filter with little effort.

Because no teenager will be able to get round this in approximately five seconds flat

It makes me shudder some of the technical naivety that comes from our political assembly.

The thing is that these are simple questions that can be asked of experts.

If any restrictions are put in place, it won't take long for people to use Google to find ways around them.

I know of a very intelligent 9yr old who can get around blocks in a few seconds.

Just because we can't stop all, doesn't mean we shouldn't try to stop some.

I'm rather surprised at this comment Hugh if I'm honest, considering we both work in a similar role.

I would of thought the 'Not everything can be fixed with a technical solution' would resonate here quite strongly ?

Ah you know what happens when we introduce "expert views" even to members of CF

Some of what though? It won't stop any of those that actually need to be stopped.

It was in reference to kids being able circumvent restrictions- some could get round them, but a reasonable percentage wouldn't.

If it protected those, seems fair.

Some being the operative word. I think most would.

actually that's the reason not too, by putting any law in that is a waste of time disvalues the law in general as its seen as irrelevant especially to those it is aimed at

lots of kids don't do drugs but very few if any do not do so because its illegal they don't because they don't think its good for them those that do do despite and often because they are being told not too

They will simply ask others how to do it, or do a search on the internet. Do you think young kids used to go into shops and get magazines? No, they got older kids to do it.

They have this antiquated idea that the UK courts have any jurisdiction over the web and that you can block foreign sites.

Access in under 5 seconds through VM despite a 3+ year injunction on ISPs to prevent it. Simply Googling for the proxy list gets you to all the regular torrent sites.

Put this in your bookmarks/favourites. Saves Googling.

I didn't want to post actual URLs as it might violated T&C here. ;)

I hink that companies should have a DOUBLE password on these porn channels. But stopping them woult be against my Human Rights.

I do watch Porn, and l reckon majority of single people and married couples watch it.

If you go on google, they do have a sign that comes up saying - re you over 18. But a Double password would work.

I think in some major offices and banks. Have a sequence of numbers that are divide between Management.

You could have 123 with one, and 456 with someone else.

What's the number of passwords got to do with it?

Indeed, what I choose to watch or look at in my house behind closed doors is absolutely NONE of anyone else's business.

Just because a large number of parents have ZERO interest in watching and supervising their children online why is that MY problem
