Returning from the darkside

Guys, I went over to the dark side (Sky) 18months ago for a better deal and to be honest I have very little to complain about.

However, virgin are offering everything for £85, Sky Movies, Sports (Sky&BT), 200 Mb BD, all the channels except Sky Atlantic, and 2 Tivo boxes.

Ponding whether to return to Virgin?

Is anything significantly new, have the box sets improved?

So it won't be offered in any new customer deals until the new year. Apparently Virgin are trying to keep existing customers happy as priority? Of cause that could be sales talk:shocked:

If you have multiscreen with Sky then cancel it and get your end of offer discount for another 10 months and then upgrade to Sky Q. Then you won't need to get that crappy Virgin box, which is technologically inferior to Sky Q.

Actually the only confirmed people I have seen that do have a V6 box on both this forum and the official one have been new joiners from Sky in the past week.

There may be some other existing customers who have to be quiet about it but the ones to speak openly are definitely new joiners to Virgin.

That is interesting, I will ask the question next time the Virgin guy rings?

Thanks you all for you comments, as usual always constructive and helpful;).

Do you really think that anyone is able to make such a bold statement like that?

Virgin have yet to tell us exactly what their new box can do, and I have even been reading that the box may not look anything like the one that we have seen.

I think we should all reserve our judgement until we have all the information.

Can I ask if, when you moved over to Sky, you received anything to cap off your VM connection?

No, just packaging. Then I took it to a local Spar shop, which had a collection point for the Currier used by VM.

Unless they have had V6 box, no they can't. I doubt that the poster has.

Some people seem to, for some reason, have grudge against VM, and that seems to blind them so much that all common sense and rational reasoning deserts them. Best to ignore them OB.

I'm surprised that you don't get the point I was making MM. Yourself. or I would never make a judgement on a bit of new kit without experiencing it or at least knowing the performance and functionality details of that kit.

I got exactly what you said , think you missed my point. OB's posts are littered with comments he's made on competing services without actually using them and generally knowing very little about them the exact things he's accusing others of doing.

Hopefully when we get some concrete details on the new box it'll be some real competition to Sky Q , likewise I hope BT bring something innovative out when they refresh their set top box offering.

It wasn't a pop at you , your posts are always fair and balanced.

If you want a sluggish boix that struggles with the basic of things plus a poor customer service and your broadband at a crawl then go ahead.
I should point out the sluggish box part is based on the current tivo which if you're getting two is most likely the one you'll get.

Ouch! I may get things a little wrong sometimes, but we are all guilty of that. I did perhaps unfairly ctiticise Sky for its slow adoption of on demand services, and spiderplant put me right on that.

However, my daughter has Sky, and I often babysit, so I do know how that works. We also have a friend whose new Talk Talk box I set up for her, and other friends who have BT. See how we all make assumptions sometimes, MM? ;)

To be fair, theone, this is not the experience of all VM customers.

While the Tivo has slowed over the last year for me (although it may just be that my box is on the way out), Customer Services has always been excellent in my experience and I have never experienced broadband problems. There are times when we have Amazon on through the Smart TV, two or three tablets on the go and a couple of mobiles in use, all using the wi-fi without issues.

It is certainly a good plan to wait for the V6 Tivo, hopefully available from 1 December, but your remarks about VM are more than a little unfair, I feel. But then again, you wouldn't disagree that you have personal issues with them! ;)

Sky+ you told us your daughter had , I was referring to your comment not so long back that the new Tivo will be better than the Sky Q system something your now pulling somebody up for who said the opposite without having all the details.

People have so many different requirements it's pretty damn hard to say conclusively which is better with all the details out anyway.

I'm afraid that has been taken out of context completely, MM. I was quoting from a comment to that effect from the Virgin Media Team. That comment may or may not be fair, but it did not emanate from me!

Ofcourse not mate i can only go by my own experience there are most likely hundreds of thousands if not millions of customers who have no issues at all with the tivo boxes.
It's no secret i have a grudge against vm with very good reason too.

No, I did not know it existed! I will check it out tonight, but I have decided to return to VM. Sky will not match the VM offer; they would only knock £3 off a £99.99 monthly bill. Yet Sky are offering up to 75% off for new customers, plain madness. Same reason I left VM 18months ago, so frustrating. All I want is a good service at a fair price and I would stay loyal to my current provider. I suppose in 12 months I will have to switch back to SKY or BT or one of the others, instead of staying loyal and subsidising new customers.

Looking at DigitalSpy, perhaps next time I will only need to look only for an internet provider, Disney, CBS are looking to stream directly to consumers, a good number of Freeview channels are available through streaming too. It gives them total control over advertising revenue, regional distribution, and targeted advertising. It will not be long before small to media content studios join the club, especially with the enablement of the cloud. The new Star-trek series from CBS appears to be a stream only option:mad:, same as Top Gear team on Amazon:td:, Netflix to mention another:shocked:.

Possibly, why VM are dipping their toes into creating content, I think Linear TV provider’s days are numbered.

All you need to do with Sky is give your 31 days notice , wait a few days and you'll receive a 50% discount in My Sky online or wait longer until they ring you which they will and you'll get what you want every time.
