More price rises
Letters going today, average rise from November is 5.1%, this is on top of the average 5.4% rise in February.
Average 10.5% price rise in one year is way over the top. By the way, these are purely Virgin price rises and not because of a Sky price increase. |

Who's getting the price rise? They seem to like separating price rises between bundles and standalone packages.

This seems to be another across the board rise for both packages and standalones. Of course the rises will be different depending on what people have.

I gave up on Virgin TV, just could not get along with Tivo, poor user inteface compared to sky.
Sky kept asking to come back with better and better offers (25% off, then 50%, then 60%). I took the 60% offer (inc sky sports). Earlier in the year I clicked on the thinking of leaving option for my BB (in my sky account) and it gave me 50% off right there and then .... |

We renewed our contract 3 months ago and got £30 off our full package so even though a price rise is never nice we won't be negotiating until our contract comes to a end.

Getting silly now with price hikes
So when i get letter depending on new deal ill be cancelling a set top box, lowering my bb, try get rid of the landline. 3 price hikes, then 3 downgrades for me getting too much now. But if we get rid of the landline the bill turns out more everytime the old unbundling phrases loose discounts. Mine won't appear with this price hike now so given it and taken it away. |

That sky deal someone quoted isnt the full package looking into it its for the boxsets bundle and only 59 channels. And does not say which set top box and install costs and activation costs.

Also, you can add either Movies or Sport or Both.... for a total of 20 or 25 or 29 a month. Installation costs are 10 like all new sky installs are these days. So quite a good deal I think. obviously if you want to add broadband/phone it will cost more. I'm still waiting for my letter from virgin, but my loyalty discounts end soon too .... can we look forward to another increase in february too? |

Sorry about that as dont understand skys page as looking at boxset pack it stated 50 channels and looked at the list
Which sky box do you get? and storage? Been with virgin ever since yorkshire cable well over 20 years. And seems to be getting too much discounts so called given for 12 months but 3 months in a price rise which cancels the discount. You haggle again then another few months same again. |

sky deal very tempting but cant get sky / BT fiber only get 1.75 meg max here so have to keep v broadband but on its own its £32 for 200meg and soon to be £19 for phone line its just not worth the change then the price of sky on top £36 for sports and movies in HD

I gave virgin retentions a ring and didn't really get anywhere with my package as their hands were pretty much tied in what discounts could be offered. I sent over the email from sky for 60% off and they couldn't match it :(

I pay £80 to VM just now and that is only a 1TB TiVo and full TV WITHOUT sports and movies with 150MB BB and anytime landline calls. Sky Deal is so much more bang for the buck. Aside from the loss of BB speed. |

It seems like VM are getting incredibly greedy lately. The time between price rises is getting less and less it seems, they are by no means small increases either.

And with the arrival of BT Infinity (or Sky Fibre, etc) then people have a real alternative to VM as they've lost their USP now that fibre BB is more widely available. VM still win the willy waving with top headline speeds but unless you are a heavy downloader or have a large family with multiple devices then most households will find the BT/Sky/etc fibre speeds more than adequate for their needs. |

Follwowed the link, got a code, started my order and then went to personalise the order more. Changed to Sky Q and also landline and BB, added sports & Movies and HD sports pack to get it all.

There seems to be a glitch on the Sky website where non-SkyQ offers are being applied to SkyQ orders. Whether they'll honour it questionable. Make sure you take screenshots if placing an order.
It's the "personalise order" step that is causing the glitch. In there you will see an option to Add HD Sports too which should be included so you know something is messed-up. SkyQ is an 18m contract. The telephone and broadband parts will be the 12m contracted products. |

Sky Q is no longer 18 months, its clearly 12.

Thanks Stephen, it seems a good deal. I've been with virgin for nearly 10 years now so I'm hoping the swap over to Sky will go without any issues. Once the year contract on sky is up and it goes up to the normal price, is it possible to negotiate a better deal with sky?

Took the plunge, Sky Q with box sets, sports and cinema plus multiroom for £41.40 a month. Called virgin as well to see how much I would pay for my broadband and phone, and as we always pay for line rental saver 200mb would be 21.99 a month.
So apart from losing BT sport (which I can access via the app anyway as my dad has it) we will be saving around £57 a month for a year. Just of interest does anyone know how long services are kept after you cancel them? Sky install is on the 8th September so would still need TV until then. |

I wonder if anyone from Virgin Media is monitoring the online reaction to the latest price rises? Alarm bells ringing yet or will they wait until a couple of quarters' results come in, showing a higher level of Sky, BT or cord cutting migrations and then start to wonder how they got it so wrong?
Charging existing customers for an expansion of their network that only benefits new customers and not the loyal customers who are now leaving in droves makes no business sense whatsoever. |

Looked too good to be true. Pack we looked at works out £50 plus £10 install.
How much do vm charge for just talk weekends and 200 bb. Depending on retentions deal ive a few options Downgrade from xl tv to l Downgrade from talk anytime to talk weekends Get rid of one tivo box Downgrade 200 vivid to 100 vivid Or End vm tv xl and 2 tivo boxes and get the sky q offer witg multiroom pack we want works out £50 per month or opt for sky plus on the mse offer for £26.40 Then see how much for just bb and end the landline as nothing but sales calls, ppi and survey calls. As not getting rid of vm bb. Love to end landline as cannot justify £27 on the pack we have when hardly used when myself and wife have mobiles. Plue use facebook messanger or whats app for calls to others so not using talk time or data allowances. |

In Virgin's defence a recent advert I saw I think quoted Big Kahuna Sports £49 plus 18? for line rental
£67 for 100Mbit BB, ALL the Sky Sports AND BT Sport That seemed way lower than when I was forced to leave for a Sky 50% off offer and BT BB deal |

I can see VM in the future only having BB I think they should drop tv altogether and invest in the BB route instead seen as a lot of things are streaming these days

Using the code GET50 seems to work out cheaper than the MSE deal.
Ive basketed the box sets tv tier, unlimited fibre, sky cinema and talk anytime extra for £45.40 a month. Not bad |

I saw the Big Kahuna deal on VM's site for £49.99 which I'm paying £72.48 for. Soon to be over £75 when the new price hike kicks in.
Rang them today and was offered a £7 pm "loyalty" discount and a new 18 month contract (?!). I offered to downgrade my BB to the 100MB and that would have been a total £9 pm discount inc. the loyalty. So I told them to go ahead and cancel. Not sure where to go from here, need to weigh up the costs of my partner joining VM as a newbie or risking Sky's rubbish BB offering with the MSE deal. I would have accepted the £7 discount but an 18 month contract is an absolute joke, especially when new customer contracts are only 12 months now. |

This may finally be my “out” with vm
Renegotiated my package/contract a couple of months ago to something I was happy with I got my first bill last month and line rental had been added so it was 18 quid more than I expected Last year vm paid my line rental saver for me – my new contract states that line rental is included What wasn’t made clear to me during the phone call was that it was running out and wouldn’t be renewed I was absolutely furious when I found this out and called to cancel, I was told that as I had just started a new contract there would be huge cancellation fees to pay. I think this is a dreadful way to treat a loyal xl customer of over 10 years I ended up reducing bb and phone package to save a couple of quid and reluctantly paid the bill Am I right in thinking this price rise means I’d be able to cancel without penalty? Honestly I’d be happy to get rid of the lot apart from broadband and use the streaming services or see what sky want to offer me – some of the links people have posted here look very interesting |

Yes, you can cancel and rip the contract because of this rise. Don't think you can do much until they officially send you a letter though. My usual tactic is to wait a bit, as they will play hard ball at first, by the time November comes round and loads have cancelled/subscribers plummeting they might be a be a bit more accommodating (and realising too late they've miscalculated, again). |

Wll looks like I am deffo going for the Sky offer.
Spoke to VM today and all I could get was the offer of Sports and Movies for £22 a month for 9 months or £32 for 12 months! Taking me well over £100 a month. Not exactly a saving or any way to get me to stay. Sky Q with full TV, 2Tb box and 1x Mini, Sport and Movies in HD, home phone with anytime calls and 38Mb Fubre for £74.80 a month. Only £30 install inc new line. No contest really. |

(I'm fed up with the TiVo box being so slow and sluggish now anyway) That Sky offer from MSE is very tempting and I don't want to miss out on it... I can only think that VM calculate that most customers are apathetic, and will absorb/forget about price rises (that's the beauty of Direct Debit & why companies are so keen on it). They calculate wrong as they have done in the past, as they are the only media company to be losing customers.

I keep a note in my calender to call SKY 31 days before my deal is coming to an end to cancel all my services. Each time they've came back with a great deal to keep me. They did leave me sweating once. All my services ended then the next day they offered me 60% off to come back. Took 14 bloody days to get my broadband back up and I ended up with a new phone number. Other than that I can't complain. No idea if they'll offer the same type of deals for SKYQ customers. |

It's scandalous, had to renegotiate to cover the last prise rise of £3.50......then the loyalty finished £11 discount, rang them again and could only offer me £2 loyalty to sign up for a further 12mths...I told them it wasn't worth the £2, reduced the services to TV M+, 100mb, never use the phone, sent a TIVO back and now it's going up again! how do sky provide broadband do you have to have a phone line?

Ofcom rules say you can leave without penalty if you joined after Jan 2014 I think it is. I have been with them for 15 years! Does this mean I will need to pay a cancellation charge still Or does the fact I negotiated a new deal 6 months ago count as when I joined?
edit: Just read earlier post saying you can leave irrespective of when you joined. In that case: bye bye Virgin. I wonder how long I will on the line to cancellations for............ ? |

No email or letter yet looking in previous posts im doubtful of any offers.
Im not a footie fan and took bt sports cost on the chin byt this third increase is certainly going to make us get rid of one tivo box and downgrade phone. I'm coming upto 9 months into an 18month contract been on a deal that ends in OCT told them the £80 a month was too much and wanted to drop services but instead suggested to wife that she add sky movies and move to 200mb ontop of XL tv with weekend calls and that would be £56 a month..had a price increase of £3.50 since then so bill is more like £63 with a couple of extras.
They told wife not to worry about the £97 it will go upto after the discount because they always have offers on so it will never be that. Looking at this thread if they don't give me offers again do I have a right to cancel services without charges when the price increase comes in? even though I'm in an 18mth contract? |
