The monthly cost is well worth it especially when you can get a deal and get 6 months TV for less than £15 often and that includes a free box.

I think it's mainly a cost thing. A great alternative to traditional pay TV for households who are on a tight budget or don't like the idea of being tied down to a 12 or 18 month contract. If your prepared to shop around you can get an Entertainment pass for a little as £3.33 per month. Plus for many the free services like iPlayer, ITV Hub, 4 for All and Demand 5 are a big plus.

In summary cheap to buy, great free on demand services and a monthly cost that's cheaper than a pint at your local.

So you bought Now TV but you don't really know what it is or anything about it?

Now TV is awesome for what it is if you don't want to pay the rip off prices from Sky or Virgin, it is also an excellent streamer if you sideload the Plex app.

It's a natural step between Sky's long-contract Satellite service and Netflix-like on demand.

It gives you access to a lot of the good stuff Sky have (such as their US shows and box sets) but you don't have a have a satellite dish, and have no contract. Their STB is incredibly cheap, although if you have pretty much any recent smartphone, tablet or certain other set top boxes (such as the Apple TV, which I use), you don't need to buy a Set Top Box either.

You can also view all the content on your mobile if (say) you are on a long journey.

It also works on game consoles.

NOW TV boxes currently limited to 720p and Stereo although (I think) the re-badged Roku boxes can handle 1080p and 5.1 audio ..

Worth the limitation to see GOT :)

If you buy the setop boxes using deals that come and go, you can get cheap viewing. Here's an example:

Now TV box with 6 months entertainment pass £19.00 at Tesco Instore

Re: Whats so special of NOW TV

Now TV doesn't show in full HD though so the limited STB isn't really an issue. A lot of content is still SD I think.

SnoopZ 21-06-2016 20:53

Re: Whats so special of NOW TV

Live broadcast channels are SD i think but the catchup is 720p, still great cheap alternative to a Sky or Virgin package, especially with cheap codes.

I was thinking about getting one of these for the bedroom as they are selling them in my Asda for £15.
I`ve got no aerial in the bedroom and I`ve been thinking this might be a good idea but can I get freeview on it when the codes expire ?
Thats all I want it for really

No, you will need an aerial for freeview. Depending on how far away you are from the transmitter you could get an indoor aerial. I got one of these for my son's room and it picks up all the freeview channels including the HD ones. We are about 12 miles away from the transmitter.

Re: Whats so special of NOW TV

Hi Stephen, the answer about not knowing abut the box, I simply. I didn't. There has been talk on here about Now TV.
And when we were in the shop, we saw that the Box contained Sky Atlantic. My wife decided to go for it.
And that's why we bought it.

What made us buy it was simply VM wont ever get it. And all the talk about the channel.

So I suppose we have got a cheap box for channels that are NOT on VM, but on Sky.

The wife is happy bout it. And that's the most important thing.

I side loaded TV Player onto my NowTV boxes. Theres almost all of the freeview channels like TruTV, Food Network, and of course all the ITV C4 and BBC channels.

Also iPlayer lets you watch live too. Not sure if ITV Hub has live TV on it?

I wish we could side load more than 1 app on this box.
