Well we will be cheering England and the home nations on but if England get to the knock out stages it will be a bonus as l think Wales are likely to beat our under performers and thus we then need two wins in our other matches to get to the knock out stages.

I am going ABE. I think Germany or Spain will win Euro 2016.

Going on the Italy VS Scotland game I saw last night on Premier I feel Italy will not do it.

I know how Hugh feels..but made to care is the ethos here where I live with a Welshman.

Though as he is only half Welsh and is also part English life gets very confusing at any event involving both teams.

Wales where robbed, as Slovakia should have had at least one man sent off, but the official who was looking directly at it failed to see the Slovakian player elbow the face of a Welsh player.

The game is over 90 minutes. ;). I did see a desperate goal line clearance in the first five minutes, a clear handball from Ashley Williams in the first half. I just felt that over the full 90 minutes Slovakia played the better football, far more possession and more goal attempts as well.

Some meaty challenges from both sides and Skrtyl has always been a bit of a thug.:(

Skrtyl should indeed have been sent off and the 4th official removed from the tournament. We were all over them in the first half and held our own in the second despite Slovakia pressing on and improving.

Overall we played better and deserved the win.

I miss the old look Stade Veledrome, it still has those semi oval type stands though.

Re: Euro 2016 thread

They were at first but as Russia are growing into it I think Walker in particular has been caught out a few times, although even when he's there they're getting past him. Balance of play and all it wouldn't surprise me if Russia caught us out and as you've pointed out, we're so far up the pitch at the minute.

More down the wings than trying to use Rooney as a playmaker too, more variety needed. There's a glimpse of Rooney when he's given the ball. Give him the bloody ball!

Re: Euro 2016 thread

I personally think Sturridge makes better runs than Kane too. Kane's a great finisher but we've got nothing through the middle most of the time for Rooney to give that killer pass too. Rooney can run through gaps but he's rarely given a chance to get ahead of Kane.

Early on I'd have to give credit to Shadow. Rooney has been faultless and his passing could be the difference in a lot of games, assuming we get them. Just needs more of the ball than what he's getting.

All in all a very surprising performance from England. Needs to be tested against stronger opposition of course but still probably the most solid display since the Sven days. Good times ahead if it sticks.

As I said Russia were growing into it they fall right back again. A single goal would open the gates and crush them.

What a hit son. That wall serves no purpose at all. Floodgates could open up for the final 15. Keep the same game plan.

Both England and Wales to head through? I don't see Russia doing much going off this game.

Typical and Hart doesn't even move, Stick your arm out lad. You're a goalkeeper not a corner flag. Again Hart? What on earth is he doing?

A good performance marred by some astonishing defending and a corner flag in goal.

adzii_nufc 11-06-2016 22:50

Re: Euro 2016 thread

Russia deserved nothing from that. They were still embarrassing throughout but I hate it when keepers just stand still like that. Its a looping header, he didn't react in the slightest, caught in the headlights and made no attempt to actually do anything. Its probably higher than it looks but still do anything other than resign yourself to conceding. I'd have bulldozed my own Centre back to get to that.

Move back, jump with your hands up, just don't stand still like a plonker for heavens sake. If it still goes in then its tough luck but at least you actually bothered to make some form of attempt. Akin to keepers that are still on their feet after a penalty. Pick a bloody side.

denphone 11-06-2016 22:53

Re: Euro 2016 thread

They may not have deserved nothing but the sad fact England will not win diddly squat because the simple fact is we cannot defend as a Sunday league team would defend better in my opinion.

As l say England will be lucky to get out of the group as l have seen it all before at the last World Cup.

Re: Euro 2016 thread

Russia didn't offer enough but England looked poor from every ball that came into the box. Lack of goals and whatever they're doing at the back could cost what is a very promising England team.

I honestly couldn't find a reason to take Rooney off.

Once again, disgraceful scenes after the whistle as Russian fans are allowed to make their way across the stands to the England fans.

Dear lord, This is horrible. People being trampled in a mad rush, If Uefa deliver a petty fine for this I'd be amazed.

I'd be very surprised if they managed that.

Obviously my heart says a Wales win but unfortunately my brain can't agree. I get the feeling England may again play like a pub team but still manage a win which the fans will call a "world class performance etc" or some such duff just because it's Wales.

Watch out for a potentially anonymous Bale performance too.

Good on Wales. Joe Hart on two occasions has just looked truly awful. Some may claim he couldn't have prevented Russia scoring but he could still have tried, rather than being a piece of cardboard.

That second one is worse though, he should've saved it and there's just no excuse, its not buried in the corner. He's getting hands to it.

The telling fact is if the scoreline stays the way it is then its all coming down on his neck.

This entire competition is looking a story of an inability to make a save and the complete inability of Harry Kane to make a half decent run or even make a chance to score.

The replay makes it even worse, no excuse other than bad positioning.

Looking at the second goal a few times now, it was a really clever finish by Sturridge aith minimal backlift and a very deft bit of footwork by Dele Alli to get the ball to him in the first place. Nice finish.

Great win by N Ireland, just need to draw with Germany now. :)

Totally brain dead piece of football by Jonny Evans at the death, picks up a yellow for kicking the ball away when he had won the free kick. :(

I do detest it when so called professionals do stuff like that, especially when they're representing their nations in front of fans who've paid a fortune to watch them. It's pathetic.

Yes they certainly were excellent.:tu:

More sorry scenes at Euro 2016 as there is fighting inside the Croatian end of the stadium.:(

Wales offered nothing going forward in the second half and paid the price. Credit to the fans for the lack of trouble.

To be honest the UK teams have banter similar to clubs, and as such it's nothing that hasn't been said before and it will carry on.

I did laugh when Ronaldo missed the penalty last night, but back backs a bitch :D

Unfortunate for him but its hard to be a huge impact when you're surrounded by pretty average players. Bar Ronaldo I don't think I could consider Portugal to be that good anymore.

I think England will actually perform better against teams considered to be better than them too. Rooney has been an absolute anchor in the middle. People were talking up Pogba but Rooney so far has matched him all the way.

The No:7 striker for the Swiss makes Emile Heskey look skillful, he is dreadful.:(

Either the French players have very sharp nails or the Swiss shirts are rubbish, never seen as many ripped in one game.

There was rather a lot of shirt pulling going on....

The result suited both sides I'm sure, Payets volley would have been a peach of a goal.

Ronaldo is nothing but a spoilt player, and needs to be dumped on his backside. He is not as good as Messi.

You make it sound like he was born with a spoon up his arse and destined for greatness. He's far from it. His childhood was far from what one would expect and his training regime is unquestionable.

But if you insist.. Ronaldo outscored and outperformed Messi this season.

Why even bother comparing them. They're the two greatest footballers to have played the game. Ronaldo's Champions league tally vs games taken is ridiculous and Messi is well on his way to being a one club legend. He's outscored Ronaldo before and probably will again.

To be fair either of them are better than any premier league player by a mile.

I don't think they're the greatest ever, I wonder how long they'd have lasted with the hatchet men of yesteryear that the likes of George best and Maradona had to endure. It's a pointless task comparing the greats from different era's as although quality will always shine some would thrive in different environments

That's always the wildcard. The sheer quality of what's now considered a standard football compared to those of that era. Pitch quality, kits including football boots. Even goalposts and nets have changed.

Even just watching the Premier League from the 90s you can get to grips with just how much faster and more sleek it is today.
