Supergirl
For those of you on the US timeline there's gotta be one question...
...who or what is in the pod? My guess is that it's her mom.... Anymore guesses? |
Re: Supergirl
I am going with Superboy
|
Re: Supergirl
I was going to suggest her Mum or Dad as well.
Its still officially waiting to be renewed though atm. |
Re: Supergirl
It's turned into a bloody good show.. It'll be stupid to cancel it
---------- Post added at 18:47 ---------- Previous post was at 18:47 ---------- I thought her mom purely on the fact that they don;t need to find another actress ;) |

I hope it gets renewed, there are far worse series out there atm and it is miles better than Legends of Tomorrow and can make for some great crossovers with Flash and Arrow. I love how they have had Helen Slater, Dean Cain and Laura Vandervoort in it. They have maintained superman's presence throughout season 1 and if it gets renewed I would love to see a story arc in season 2 which required superman's help for one episode and for them to bring Tom Welling in for it. It would make my day :dunce: Most importantly of all, Melissa Benoist is my No 1 babe atm out of all the tv series I currently watch and she can't go. Caroline and Bonnie from TVD are in second spot. Lana is all time supreme numero uno in case anyone is wondering. |
Re: Supergirl
Just binge watched the last 12 episodes, this got awesome and is just as good as te other DC shows :O

As for crossovers, from The Flash's appearance in Supergirl in season 1, they're on differen't Earths so I don't think we there will be anymore. |

Re: Supergirl
yup, I am sure they can make it happen if they want to. The thing which I don't understand though is why Supergirl can only exist in one reality. Although there are multiple outcomes/possibilities (as in she never left Krypton), surely in 90% of cases she would have made it to Earth just like there would be a Flash on most Earths?
|
Re: Supergirl
re crossovers : they announced a 4 way crossover between Supergirl, Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow for next season at around the same time as the news of it moving to the CW.

Superman will be in the season 2 opening episodes.

fantastic, I am well chuffed and I think it will be as good as Smallville. I can't wait to see the new direction it goes in.

Greg Berlanti has complained about it a few times, and apparently finds it quite restrictive. He was even apparently told that he could not include Superman or Batman in Arrow. OK, so Superman wouldn't really have fitted in, but Batman, being a fellow multi billionaire playboy/vigilante would have. If done badly, it can be cheesy as anything including references to movies or even other TV shows in a show, but if it's done well (as Marvel have done with Agents of Shield), it can add a lot of depth to an ongoing story. Hell, the story with Lady Sif in AOS Season 1 was arguably a turning point for the series, where it stopped being some slightly weird Police Procedural drama with Aliens and turned into a series that I personally love. But DC seem to view TV and Films as two totally seperate things. For instance, I read that because of the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, the Arrow production team were forced to remove the Suicide Squad from the TV series. They never were allowed to directly reference Harley Quinn, although apparently Tara Strong (who played her in some of the cartoons and the last three Arkham games) appeared in the background in one Arrow episode dressed as Harley Quinn, but was never directly referenced in the script. |

Wasn't dead shot in Arrow too? |
Re: Supergirl
He was and was 'eliminated/removed from the storyline' as part of the arrow version of the Suicide squad along with any nod or mention of them. Amanda Weller was still crucial to an open plot but she was also removed in the prime timeline and only appeared in flashbacks.
|
Re: Supergirl
I think Agents of Shield is great and just gets better and better. I enjoy Flash and Arrow every week but they don't even begin to compare to AOS. It has a more serious tone to it story wise and the action and special effects are top notch. It is defo one of my "must see" series every week and I watch it as soon as I can. I love the crossovers they do with the movies and given how season 2 ended I was very disappointed that they didn't tie the end of season 3 in with Captain America with the controversy around the mutant registration act.
|
Re: Supergirl
Well they did mention the events of Cap on a few occasions but I really think the later half of season 3 was pretty poor. I only watched it as I had to finish what I started. It was lower than Arrow on my list of stuff to watch.
I do love Supergirl though and Flash. |

Re: Supergirl
Each to their own. I love Shield, Arrow, Flash, Supergirl & LoT.
|
Re: Supergirl
Give Arrow another season. Its already known why it was so awful this season. Resources were allocated elsewhere. Basically the entire creative team of Arrow went to work on The Flash, then LoT got set off as did Supergirl with hefty budgets thus further sending Arrow down the pecking order. If Arrow is once again poorly written and executed then we will know for certain that they simply don't care. I'm holding out for the reasoning being they thought it was established enough to survive a chopping here and there and got it wrong and then inject new life into it again.
DC's TV shows are gold. What I'd give to have CW revive Constantine full time, although that would further stretch the costs of what they already have. Also check out Lucifer, loosely set on DC's Lucifer Morningstar, had a slowish season with a few shining moments that are unique and could make a great show if it goes the right way. I get why people would like to see DC references from TV to Movies but be fair, it'd be stupid at this point. Agents of Shield didn't introduce a very major character then have someone completely different play it in the movie. By major I mean any one of the avengers. That being said those roles were already established before the series. Flash TV and Flash Justice League movies are two different actors and it would be pretty daft to link the cinematic universes. There was no sane way to link them without having Grant Austin play The Flash in the movie. I also get the actual point though and I can't see a real reason to have never given a nod to Batman or Superman other than DC wanting to keep them movie exclusive. They're big hits and be fair, The Flash was hardly big news until the wildly successful series and non surprisingly they want to push movies for him. As above though. Consider that Agents of Shield was pushed out after The Avengers and stand alone movies and that DC's Arrow and Flash were before the new DC movie revamps. With the exception of Man of Steel. Further adding to it, Stephen Amell has all but said he won't be portraying a movie version of the Green Arrow which would further distance the universe. The above is what happens when trying to keep up with comic book universes and time lines and alternates.. I have no idea how people keep track. |
Re: Supergirl

I can understand why it would need to be done but if they make an Arrow and Flash movie without the actors from the tv series it would just be stupid. I would be like "hang on, I have shared Barry's life with him for the last 2 years and seen all the stuff he has been through and I know the Flash, w(ho)tf is this dude?" Things like that spoil it for me and for want of a better analogy, literally shatter the universe because you have now got different people playing the same character doing different things. The thing which I love about Marvel is their passion for consistency and making sure everything is carefully kept together and referenced and is just one huge story. |
Re: Supergirl
I can't believe it though. Yes Jackson was in it like once and yes they once in a while mention the Avengers but it really doesn't feel like the same world.
Personally I think the Marvel TV universe should be separate from the movies as they just don't have the budget to keep the continuity flowing smoothly. I don't have an issue with other actors playing the parts in TV/Movies as at the end of the day it is based off a comic that has been running for decades and they do have different people taking on the role of that superhero from time to time. |

Re: Supergirl
Even though they're completely separate universes they could've just cast the movie actor as Jay Garrick or Wally West to avoid fan criticism. Personally I see it as an entirely different Flash than the one on TV.
Also it's possible we are set up for Flashpoint in The Flash season 3, which would reintroduce Reverse Flash, Death stroke, Captain Cold and much more assuming they stuck to source material. The source material also included Thomas Wayne as Batman but I doubt that'll come to light. Those new to this story: Barry goes back in time saving his mother* This creates an alternate reality where everything is now different because The Flash was created in the prime timeline due to Reverse Flash killing his mother. His mothers death is crucial to Barry becoming the Flash. In the Flashpoint reality, Barry is no longer with powers, his mother alive, Captain Cold is the hero of Central City# * Happened at the end of Season 2 # Not sure if Wentworth will actually be involved but this timeline effectively revives him from death. Its highly likely it'll be loosely based on Flashpoint though and will largely differ from source. |
Re: Supergirl
"The role of Clark Kent has not yet been cast. Will this news start up the Tom Welling rumors once again? He starred on Smallville, which ended its run on CW several years ago. With the premiere of Supergirl, many fans wondered if Welling would take on the Clark Kent role for the new series.
With Supergirl now housed on CW, it is possible that Welling could pick up the role, but the actor said that he had not been asked to reprise his role. That might change with the Supergirl move. Fans will have to wait and see who picks up the role of Clark Kent. That news should come in the weeks ahead" I would love to see Tom Welling come back. He would be the perfect fit for it as he is now the more experienced, older and maturer of the two super heroes. |
Re: Supergirl
Its hard to push Superman without damaging the integrity of Supergirl though, sure the odd sporadic appearance would do no harm but a series regular or even another standalone supes could draw away from the show. To further explain damaging the integrity, look at the shambolic mess Arrow season 4 finale left itself in. Team Arrow vs the entire world's nuclear stockpile. Granted it was crappy writing but I didn't believe for one second Oliver Queen was capable due to the numerous appearances by The Flash and even more vital to that plot was John Constantine whom regularly deals with magic and death. If Clark Kent was to constantly appear you'd likely end up with the same criticism. It would make sense to have him in a passing the torch role, establishing Supergirl as an equal to the point she would never require Superman.
Again though, TV characters should never be written so far out of their depth the way Arrow just was in a shared universe. You know its bad when three of us have agreed unanimously that it was dire. Marvel have had their lower key versions though. Look at Cap: Winter Soldier, we're meant to believe Tony Stark and others just didn't care that Hydra were about to decimate the population. You just have to accept that stuff sometimes and it barely matters if the movie was actually good which it was. Anything is possible though as above if they go for Flashpoint we may see a Thomas Wayne alternate Batman on TV that wouldn't damage the big screen versions in any way. |
Re: Supergirl
Clark Kent was cast, maybe appearing in the first episode I think. On mobile so someone could drag up the story.
Confirmed Flash season 3 will be FlashPoint. Meaning crossovers are likely but in a completely different timeline from the prime. I.E if you see Oliver Queen in FlashPoint, Prime Arrow Oliver Queen won't know it and it'll have no effect on events in Arrow. That applies to all shows. They'll follow a pocket timeline route in which all shows still remember Barry but he wont be present. The reason for a pocket timeline is obvious for continuity sake. If Barry is removed from all timelines then he never saved Arrow and co on multiple occasions. Confusing I know. Should make a DC TV thread and merge these little ones given the relatively low activity and the constant crossovers between the four. |
Re: Supergirl
I don't think it'd work having Supergirl in that thread atm. It's already set in an alternative universe so it won't be impacted by the other shows and it won't impact them either. I wonder if they'll find a way to connect it in a more permanent way.

Re: Supergirl
I loved episode 2, it is great to see some proper kick ass. The small nag I always had with Smallville and Star Trek is that the good guys always try to maintain a level playing field with the bad guys when they could easily over power them. Clarke would always struggle trying to punch the bad guys when he could have easily fried them with his heat vision. I loved this episode because they were more creative with the take down tactics. It didn't take long for Kara to try and fry the bad guy on the bridge and when that didn't work Clarke used his kinetic energy and speed bumped him off the bridge. I laughed my ass off when he went flying because they are the kind of things that we think of when we watch it and think "wouldn't it be cool if ............"
Cracking start to the season so far! |
Re: Supergirl
Yes, Im enjoying season 2 so far.
|
Re: Supergirl
Its the only one of the main three that is doing well... Betting that has a lot to do with Supergirl not getting a movie. Seems to be almost blatant that WB are seriously interfering with the direction of The Flash and Arrow since the Justice and standalone movies.
Legends gets a pass as it was pretty much DOA and is still on the flatline. Shame as I like all four. Found myself skipping Arrow and catching up episodes later. Don't want that to happen with The Flash. Was hoping to reach a point where they'd shuffle it and have all 5 days covered. Constantine is free, Lucifer is on FOX, or Suicide Squad with the casting from Arrow? Given the movie was diabolical. |
Re: Supergirl
season 6 premieres on Tuesday 30th March

Re: Supergirl
Indeed, its taking over from Superman & Lois, which is delayed due to the pandemic, and apparently returns in May.
Not sure how thats going to work, and they will still have loads of Supergirl episodes to show as well, it reads like they will swap again on May 18. If thats the case, Supergirl will then run until at least November. |
Re: Supergirl
Looking forward to the new season, and I'm slightly sad it is ending. Although hopefully it'll end on a high.
Re Superman and Lois, much as I like the way Tyler Hoechin and Elizabeth McCulloch are playing Superman/Clark and Lois, not really sure I'm enjoying the series. I think the storyline (at least in episodes 1 and 2) isn't really working, so needs some adjustment. I'll carry on though, as I realise a new series can take a while to start to be good. Star Trek: The Next Generation was one of my favourite shows ever, but I nearly stopped watching after episode 15 of season 1 because those 15 episodes weren't generally worth bothering with. Thankfully season 1 improved massively, and while some of the later episodes were a bit variable, it was an excellent show overall. |
Re: Supergirl
Star Trek improved in inverse correlation with Gene Roddenberry's direct influence over it. ;) He was a big-picture man, not unlike George Lucas or Terry Nation. Inventive, but not brilliant when it comes to continually grinding out new material in the same space. Much of the 'meh' around Star Wars 1-3 can be attributed to Lucas having become so powerful, there was no longer anybody to tell him if he'd had a crap idea. And if you watch Blakes' Seven you can see it visibly running out of steam after about half a dozen episodes and suddenly starting to look a lot like mid-Baker-era Doctor Who without the time travel.
|
Re: Supergirl
Shows eventually run out of steam. It goes from some creative idea somebody has had to a 30-60 minute slot of time some writers are tasked to fill which leads to formulaic writing without much energy or creative spark, just a product that's been created to a spec.
This is especially the case with procedural shows that have 18-24 episodes a season that is designed to be a collection of one-off episodes where the writers have to be sure to include certain moments that are signatures of that particular show. There is only so much juice to be found in a certain set of characters or setting and in the end they're just grinding out episodes to wack on TV. As a viewer eventually the artifice breaks down and you go from being engaged with the story to spotting what the writers are doing and why. You see contrived plot devices that were purely designed to extend the show's run for example. It's why mini-series like Queens Gambit or serialisations like Breaking Bad are good. They have a self-contained story that is the idea of a few creators and once they've got it out of their system, it's done. |

Re: Supergirl
Well, I'm sad to say I will not miss this when its done (which should be mid November).
The first three seasons were really quite good, esp 1 & 2, but the politics, pc, feminism and constant preaching have slowly taken over and ruined it, they even got rid of her iconic red skirt last season. Now its much like Doctor Who, each week is a Preach about something, and just like Doctor who, I now find myself Fast Forwarding many parts of an episode just to get back to the actual story. |

Re: Supergirl
Yeah, I’m seeing it through because I’ve followed it this far and I’m bloody minded like that, but if the last 2 seasons had been the first 2 I’d have binned it pretty quick. I don’t mind TV drama tackling ‘issues’ but there’s a big difference between exploring issues and preaching at the audience and Supergirl’s writers are way over the wrong side of the line on this. It’s getting extremely irritating.

Re: Supergirl
Last week was an almost decent episode, not too much preaching.
Sadly, it didnt last, they were back to the endless preaching and speeches this week. Naturally, the bad guy (well girl) was white, and power mad, and no one cared about the "victims". The whole actual [proper] superhero story probably lasted about 20 minutes if that, the rest was just more preaching and speeches. (Actually, calling a 'story' is a bit of a stretch, there was very little to it, and it was largely designed simply to facilitate the weeks preaching). I gave up and skipped through them to the relevant parts, then skipped the further speeches afterwards. Its become absolute drivel, no wonder its ratings have bombed, such a sad end to what was once a good show. |
Re: Supergirl
I have rated plenty of movies and tv series on imdb but this is the first time I have ever been motivated to rate an individual episode. I was so sick and tired of it that I got my phone, opened the imdb app and gave it 1/10.
Btw, I know J'onn is an alien and can fly but since when did he turn into Superman and be able to lift cranes up? Alex has also turned into Inspector Gadget and can literally do whatever the occasion requires as well. 8 more episodes to go. Lets see if they can get it back on track and give it a dignified ending. |

Re: Supergirl
TBH, Ive not really ever paid that much attention.
I dont think hes displayed or used superstrength much in previous seasons ? If that were the only issue with supergirl now, Id be fine with it. The fact all her friends seem to be turning into superheroes now is getting a bit silly. |
Re: Supergirl
After last week and this week I'm about to chuck it. Honestly the preaching is totally overtaken the show. Black people can't afford housing and black people can't afford hospital care was all that the last two episodes were about really. Anything else was just thrown in to try and make it seem like a TV show.
|
Re: Supergirl
The thing which I don't understand is why they are doing it. Everyone had enough of it last season and you would have thought they had got the message but instead they have doubled down on it. What kind of ming mong writers and producers have you got on the series that think they are genuinely doing the best job they can at making a superhero series and honestly believe they are doing a good job. The viewers are -33% year on year.

Re: Supergirl
Ive got this far so I'll stick out the final 2 episodes.

Re: Supergirl
Yes, it was very meh & tiresome, so much filler and false 'drama'.
So much preaching it was almost unbearable, even getting a 'consent' jibe in. I actually ended up skipping about 25% of E19, and about 60% of E20. They wrapped up the actual story early in E20, the rest was just snoozy filler. Its sad that what started as such a great series turned into something so poor, I wont miss it. |
Re: Supergirl
What's sad is that in great series you hear about the collaboration between producers, writers, and actors and how influential some of the main cast are in suggesting story ideas and key plot points. What is sad is that in this series everyone just seems to be along for the ride and I can't believe non of the actors hadn't gone along and said to somebody "this is going down hill" or "I don't like what is happening to my character and we need to change direction".
