Game of Silence - 7th April
The Girlfriend Experience - 10th April
Fear the Walking Dead (season 2) - 10th April
12 Monkeys (season 2) - 18th April
Game of Thrones (season 6) - 24th April

Dark Matter (season 2) - 12th July

Saw ep#1 of Hunters yesterday and I'm not sure that it's gonna be anything special. In fact reminded me of a lot of most Human v Aliens shows in the last 10 years

Re: New US shows Spring/Summer 2016

 Colonel O'Neill is so amazed at how cliché it is that he is speechless. Like I said with Legends of Tomorrow, if something is unrealistic or doesn't make sense then I can't believe it would really happen and can't watch it.

"My name is Regan and I part of a secret government organisation that is hunting aliens. I know how bad and kickass they are but I am still going to disobey orders and go down the stairs after one by myself. When I get my team leader killed and my partner complains about it nothing is going to get said or done and I am still allowed to go on missions where I can put everyone else at risk".

And don't even me me started on the script, I could have written it myself.

Thumbs up for it being cancelled asap.

Re: New US shows Spring/Summer 2016

It's SyFy so I'm not holding it upto high standards to begin with..

The problem I have is so many shows with so little time that I have to pick and choose, I'll give this until ep#3 though as a lot of good shows have started off mediocre and improved tremendously over a short time

General Maximus 13-04-2016 15:36

Re: New US shows Spring/Summer 2016

it was that bad that I have already decided I am not watching any more. I gave Legends of Tomorrow until ep 3  Let me know if it gets any better. All I can say is thank god Fear the Walking Dead started this week and GoT is back in 2 weeks.

Re: New US shows Spring/Summer 2016

Not into Zombie stuff and would you believe I've not yet seen an episode of GoT, I'll catch up one of these days :D

General Maximus 13-04-2016 20:57

Re: New US shows Spring/Summer 2016

believe it or not I don't watch TWD because it is zombiefied. Although I am not a huge fan of psychology I love to watch apocalyptic stuff (e.g. Day After Tomorrow) because I love to study human behaviour and analyse how people react to different situations. Yes TWD is entirely fictional but you need to ask yourself this: if you were to wake up tomorrow and find that there had been a massive solar discharge resulting in an emp which knocked out all power on Earth/natural volcanic disaster/zombie apocalypse and there was a complete breakdown of communication and government would you:

a) flee your immediate highly dense residential area to the country side where you can create a more defensible position
b) hold up in your house hoping you can ride it out and that no neighbourhood mobs attack you for food
c) do you go it alone or try and buddy up with some neighbours to share resources and defense
d) if you come across a group of strangers, do you trust them and integrate them into your group or do you see them as a threat and kill them and take their food and resources?

TWD addresses this and much more.

I don't even know where to start on GoT. I loved it from the opening scene but I have got many friends who found it way too intense and couldn't get to grips with it. That being said, it is arguably one of the best tv series ever. You'll see in other threads that I have listed Babylon 5, BSG and SG SG1 as my favourite tv series of all time and that is because they are all about the characters and story. GoT has this in spades and it is truly unique because of the sheer scope and number of characters. You can look at series like B5 and say it is an ensemble cast without one main actor but GoT just ****es all over it. No matter how minor the role or whether they are good or bad, you come to love every single character in GoT, get to know them and appreciate the role they play in the story. I like to consider myself a very clever dude but I am in awe that one man has created such an intricate world with so many stories and characters and can keep track of everything that is happening. If you asked me to do it I would say it was for a team of PhD guys at NASA.

I am half jealous because when you do get round to GoT you have got the luxury of watching 6 seasons back to back. I have got a friend who started at season 4 so she watched seasons 1-3 back to back and it nearly killed her when she had to watch season 4 on tv and wait a week between each episode. No matter what anyone says, I think GoT is a series which can appeal to anyone and everyone because the characters and stories are so diverse. If I had the spare $$$ I would send you a copy on bluray :)

Re: New US shows Spring/Summer 2016

Watched first 2 eps of GoT and yes I can see promise in the show even though it seems liked a teenage D&D plazying nerd's fantasy come true.

Re: New US shows Spring/Summer 2016

Watched one season of GoT, It's not that I don't like it, I just like it to get so far ahead I can pick it up and watch it at my own pace and never have to wait for more episodes. I've only just discovered the now finished Fringe and am doing exactly that with it. It also has me convinced that everything Abrams touches turns to gold.

General Maximus 25-04-2016 14:18

Re: New US shows Spring/Summer 2016

You will be blown away very quickly, it is like having a blockbuster movie budget for a tv series. The produ tion quality is amazing. Tbh i wasnt too sure about the first few eps because they did a lot of dancing around between locations and characters but once you get settled in (i think it was ep 4 for me) you'll be hooked. You have no idea how lucky you are that you have got 5 seasons you can watch back to back.

Re: New US shows Spring/Summer 2016

I've been watching a few things recently,

Legends of Tomorrow is cliched, not particularly great but fun in a childish sort of way.
Supergirl is, again, a little cliched, a bit flat in places but generally enjoyable.
Unfortunately, neither are as good as either The Flash or Arrow, which suggests to me that Greg Berlanti is stretching himself a little thin with 4 shows on air.

I've also been watching a show called "Dark Matter" on SyFy. Can't really make up my mind about it. It is very cliched. It's about several people (every one of which is a Science Fiction cliche), who wake up aboard a space ship, with no memory of who they are (again, cliched). There are a couple of things I like though. One is that any science they introduce to the story is at least plausible and the other is that they do try and introduce some light hearted moments for some of the characters. I actually like that, because it's something that actually does happen in life that is not usually reflected in modern Sci Fi. The trouble is, when they do it, the scenes are not well written. In fact, the series itself is not well written.

I'd usually give a new show 3 or 4 episodes. Because I like that they are trying to change things up a little (as noted above), I have been a little more forgiving for this show, and am currently up to episode 7. I'll give it to the end of the season (which is only ten episodes anyway), but unless it improves, it's coming off my "To Watch" list.

Although they are trying to expand the DC universe I think they are trying to cater for as many audiences as possible to keep the ratings up. I think Arrow and Flash are the more serious series (like the Dark Knight trilogy) and appeals to adults. Supergirl is all about female empowerment and appeals to young teens girls and LoT () is all light hearted and action packed for 8-12 year old boys. If they made them all the same with the same serious tone like Arrow then I am sure we would be sitting here saying we haven't got time for 4 series and we would only watch our favourite 2

I felt the same and watched it all the way through just because it was nice to have a spacey scifi series and also because I wanted to see where they were taking it. I gave it the benefit of doubt because the dude who made SG1 makes it. I think i'll keep watching it but it is something I can take or leave and isn't something I would watch immediately every week like GoT, TWD, Greys etc.

lol, I knew you would get hooked once you got into it. You are ploughing through them quite nicely. I haven't read the books so everything is always new to me and I didn't know Joffrey was going to die. I have got to say it was the most satisfying moment of the series for me and makes up for the red wedding. With all the bad things that had happened I thought "finally, Rob is going to get his army across the river, team up with Arya and get Sansa get and finally kick some ass". I had a genuine Darth Vader moment when everything went tits up. I loved Rob's gf and literally sat up in bed (I was lying down) and shouted "nooooooooo".

I completely understand. I have been having a little rant in another thread about the BBC, budgets and production quality and GoT is a perfect example of what I have been talking about. Watching it in standard definition or on a small screen just doesn't do it justice. Whether you are standing on The Wall, looking at the Red Keep in Kings Landing, or any of the gorgeous scenic countryside or ocean vistas, it all needs to be in HD on a big tv. I don't get tired of it, I am constantly in awe and believe it is all real.

When you have got 2 mins everybody need to watch a new mini series called Containment. It is sort of like Outbreak the tv series and follows a viral outbreak in the city of Atlanta. I love watching stuff like this from a science point of view but also to see how the public and police react and how everything can go wrong just through people trying to act compassionately and trying to do the right thing for the people they care about. It started 4 weeks ago and for some reason I didn't think it started till tonight so I am catching up now. I have just finished 1x02 and I love it.

It's that time again, when the new shows of the 2016/2017 television season are rolled out and we can take bets on which of them stand a chance of making it past their first season. Twentieth Century Fox recently unveiled their schedule for the upcoming season as well as debuting first-look trailers for many of their new series, which includes the revival of Prison Break, the 24 spin-off/reboot 24: Legacy, an adaptation of action/comedy classic Lethal Weapon, attempting to capture the terror of The Exorcist, and doing the Time Warp with a reimagining of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Excellent, it is about time some proper tv series came back which we can really get in to. Less is more and this year there have been far too many new series with no substance that have been/will be cancelled. I cant wait for both series and over the last month I gave been craving the lottery numbers of 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 42.

When I turn on the tv and put on BBC 1,2, ITV, CH4, 5 and its the same rubbish time and time again. It's makes you want to cry. How many shows does there need to be following the police around, or inspector checking dirty hotels/restaurants, celebrity chefs, antiques, buying house, some programme about someone's elses health issues etc?

Then you watch a show like Game Of THrones and sit back in bliss and realise tv is still relevant if its made by the right people.

There have been far too many new shows these days with Netflix and Amazon accelerating things even more. But there are gems out there, one of mine Hell On Wheels will start again soon. And as Greg Berlanti, the American tv producer, has been mentioned earlier in the thread, check out his earlier show ánd my all time favourite Everwood, for some excellently written family drama.

But its always nice to go back into the darkness after the light and snuggle up with Norma and Norman Bates in Bates Motel. Great tv is around, you just have to go looking!

It is because it is all cheap to make and doesn't involve any effort. I don't know what channel my Sky box was on earlier but when I turned it on some sort of Gordon Ramsey trainee chef cooking programme was on and in the 5 seconds it was on before I switched the channel over he was saying "disaster averted, Fred (can't remember name) nearly let that salmon go out uncooked". And all I could think of was what a farce the whole thing was and how it had been setup. There is no way Gordon Ramsey would even bother teaching a potential top notch chef if he couldn't even cook fish properly and notice the difference between cooked and uncooked.
Going back to money and budgets though, on the odd occasion one of the networks do try to make a new and decent "series" it only lasts for a few episodes so it isn't really a tv series. Downton Abbey comes to mind and DCI Banks (I think there were 3 episodes). I don't watch any terrestrial tv at all so I haven't seen any of them but I can remember seeing the listings for it on tv.

A new Australian series starting on Sundance in the US next month sounds interesting, sounds a bit like X-Men:

Cleverman

Set in the near future, "Cleverman" is a startlingly original drama rooted in Aboriginal mythology. The series depicts a deeply conflicted and anxious society, fearful of a minority group living among them, endowed with extraordinary physical traits. One young man - The Cleverman - struggles with his own power and the responsibility to unite this divided world, but he must first overcome a deep estrangement from his older brother.
