VIP Returns + 6 Months Free Netflix on Big Bundles

Just been on the VM website and noticed the VIP bundle is back (http://store.virginmedia.com/big-bun...indoutmore_vip) at £75 for first 12 months rising to £99 after (plus LR of course) on 18 month contract.

Also, they're offering 6 months free Netflix on all big bundles. (http://store.virginmedia.com/big-bundles.html)

Decent offers if you're thinking of joining or a good time to renegotiate if you're coming to the end of your contract / out of contract.

Our contract ends in late May so we will be looking for a better deal that's for sure.

Is the pricing right in your first link ?

It says £42 a month plus line rental isn't the VIP £75 like you've put.

Re: VIP Returns + 6 Months Free Netflix on Big Bundles

I see the correct price on the link:

Quote:

£75 a month
for 12 months then £99 a month
+ Virgin Phone line for £17.99 a month
18 month contract
£9.99 activation fee applies.

Strange I'm browsing on a mobile but it's still showing the £42 a month rising to £55 and line rental at £17.99. I though it seemed ridiculously cheap but figured because it said self install it was a bargain.:D

Re: VIP Returns + 6 Months Free Netflix on Big Bundles

Ah that would explain it. Looks like the Mobile site has a different (incorrect) price to the non-mobile site. I shall let someone know about that!

Re: VIP Returns + 6 Months Free Netflix on Big Bundles

I posted the link from my tablet earlier and it worked fine but just checked on my phone and it comes up as £42 like you say mm. Guess it's an error on the mobile site as if you click on 'Get this bundle' it takes you through to ordering the Big Kahuna at £42.

Ben - you may want to flag this error with your appropriate colleagues.

Oops, you beat me to it Ben! ;-)

Interesting. looks like they have had a bit of a reshuffle of the bundles. i'm currently on xl tv with 500gb tivo+VHD box, M phone and vivid 100. I currently pay £71pm but that is including a £6 loyalty discount so would be £77. The bundle builder has the exact same package at £73.50 before any discount so it looks like i'm being overcharged a little. Think a phone call is in order.

Pretty certain I'm out of contract soon, but will be waiting to see if a new TiVo or other replacement is on the cards before committing.

Well spotted. Which are the 'big bundles'? The Netflix link just takes you to an order page.

Are they not putting the VIP up to 300?

Richard, once you click the link in my post, scroll down rather than clicking the Netflix promo and you'll see them. Basically the 'big bundles' are their triple play offerings.

I recall a time when a customer renewing meant they got the same deal as a new customer, after all they are taking a new contract.

I guess these days it's all about the new guy :/

That's a bit shocking, you could theoretically leave and have a new contract start the next day - so it's pointless Virgin trying to charge you more (unless you give in, I suppose).

Agreed, 300 is not on offer yet with VIP I don't think?

Also Kushan is right, Sometimes it'e best to leave and return but isn't there a 6 month wait for new offers?

Not specifically sure about the VM policy, but it is the usual practice of companies to not regard someone as a new customer until 6 months have elapsed.

Phoned up today would not put me on VIP as supposedly would put the price up but after half an hour of they guy trying it managed to drop it by £16pm. Supposedly also activated the Netflix but as I have had it twice in the past, he said the code may not get issued.

Code turned up and applied to my Netflix account;)

Re: VIP Returns + 6 Months Free Netflix on Big Bundles

I moved across to Big Kahuna earlier this week via a retentions offer (I was only looking to add Sky Sports to an old bundle, but it ended up an all-out account re-jig), I presume this should also include 6months free netflix? Or does the fact it was done via a retentions offer exclude Netflix?

Assuming the 6months applies, I tried loading the Netflix app and got a link for "get your month free" which I don't recall seeing previously - does this mean the free period is automatic? Or do I need CS to do anything to make it 6 months rather than "one" as per the app screen?

Re: VIP Returns + 6 Months Free Netflix on Big Bundles

I rejigged my account a couple of weeks ago and they sent me the 6 months Netflix code but they were not going to until I asked for it saying if I was signing up for another 12 months then they should throw it in.
They didn't argue and sent it about 2 days later to an effectively dead email account that was completely different to the address they had used for the contract and other bits and bobs so not sure where they dug that up from.

The 1 month thing you are seeing is standard to anyone new signing up. I had a Netflix account about 18 months ago and I tried to sign back in with that to reactivate it if you like and it wouldn't let me even trying to reset password it was like I never existed with them so I now have my free month followed by the 6 months from Virgin.

Just phoned VM to try and reduce my bill and straight away they offered me a £18.50
reduction

Re: VIP Returns + 6 Months Free Netflix on Big Bundles

I called CS to ask if I was eligible for the 6months Netflix - I'm not massively interested to be honest, but it's a matter of principle. Got told bluntly "sorry, but no. New customers only", not sure if I was speaking to retentions or billing to be fair.

Between that and the 30day notice nonsense that's come out of the woodwork, I may yet be writing in anyway. In fairness, it looks like new customers get an 18month term where existing resigns only get 12.

Been with Virgin for 20 years or so, last time I called retentions I was put on an 18 month deal with 2 discounts, one for 6 months and one for 18 months.

Re: VIP Returns + 6 Months Free Netflix on Big Bundles

Generally a normal bundle agreement is a 12 month minimum term, but if it comes with an extra reduction then it's 18 months.

djmagnifique 20-05-2016 14:56

Re: VIP Returns + 6 Months Free Netflix on Big Bundles

Just changed my package from Big Bang with XL tv and an extra box (£70.98) to Big Kahuna with 100Mb broadband and an extra box (£67.49). I was 8 months into an 18 month contract, got told it would be a new 12 month contract.

So i've changed from 100Mb broadband, XL tv, M phone and an extra box to 100Mb broadband, XL tv, M phone and an extra abox

japitts 01-06-2016 10:48

Re: VIP Returns + 6 Months Free Netflix on Big Bundles

For what it's worth, I sent in a "complaint" about a few service issues that, to be fair, was more feedback than whinge - but one thing mentioned about the new-customer/existing-customer differential for Netflix 6month offer. The upshot was that I got a 6month code and was told I should have had it originally. So who knows....
