Have you won anything recently?

For me i have won twice on the Euro Lottery this month, only £10.40 but it paid for the 4 week ticket i always buy online. :)

2 X £25 from ERNIE since Christmas.

Stopped doing the lottery when it went up to £2 a go. Instead I put my £5 per week, plus any winnings, into a jar and buy a new block of bonds when the jar holds £100. The chance of winning may be less but I still have my initial investment.

In the last 4 months I've had 2 four number wins of £61 and £53 a 3 number win of £25 and about 4 lucky dip wins.

I usually win 4 times a year on Fridays Euro Lottery, i always buy a 4 week ticket online then no messing about, not much but it is something, no point playing the normal lottery anymore.

I bought a three and a two suite which I thought I liked , but seconds thoughts I had a second look on their website and went off it, as it was over a week I could not cancel. So I am really dreading it coming to the house , I was restricted for the size of the two seater and not as much choice as I would have liked, I dare not say to my other half that I do not like it.

My wife plays postcode lotto, she's won about 100 over the last 4 years and then in July she won a share of the 3 million monthly prize.
Not a huge amount, just a few grand but very welcome to say the least, it'll pay for the new bathroom and a few computer bits for moi.

4 numbers on the lotto, I also got lucky that the win was much higher than the average for 4 numbers, it paid £176. Ironically the winning ticket was the free lucky dip I had won earlier that week.

I plan to enter the irish lottery which has more favourable odds and lower entry fee.

It can vary from month to month but the average premium bond return us 3.6%. Inflation is 3.8%....

Very nice, my parents win often too but I'm not sure how much £s is needed to win often. I've only had £100 worth in last 25 years or so and never won, I guess it's best to buy in alot bigger blocks of bond numbers?

Assuming the max £50k investment , you need to be 'winning' at least £1900 a year to keep up with inflation. Anything less is a loss. Nothing wrong with premium bonds, certainly a better deal than the nat. lottery, but 'prizes' are interest , and inflation is the killer.

Stuffed under your mattress loses money through "inflation", most bank accounts still give paltry interest rates, and even then most of us then lose 20% to tax. PB's are a bit of fun, and you can get all your money back if you fall on hard times.

I have "played the markets" for many years, but not with stocks and shares, but with consumer items. I bulk buy essentials that have very long shelf lives, that I know we will use at some point. Shelves stripped of toilet paper? No problem for us, as we gradually built up large stocks over the year when prices weren't bonkers. Ditto lots of dried and canned goods. Originally in case winter weather meant driving to the shops would be a bit hairy, but then along came covid that caused the shortages and price hikes. And now Robber Reeve's "tax on jobs" that is seeing prices rising rapidly again.
