SH3 - Poor WiFi
Afternoon all,
Just got our quick start pack with the SH3, speeds are good http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4970656615 But only wired. Tried a few devices wireless and struggling to break the 15Meg down barrier, I know wireless is slower, but not this much slower! Tried on a OnePlus 2, iPhone 5S and a wireless N USB adapter. Is there something I'm missing? Cheers! |
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
Ive had this several times, I found changing the SSID of the 5ghz to a different name and connecting to that helps. I dont think the hub has "Band Steering"
|
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
Cheers jb - I'll give that a go once it decides to stop locking up and let me access it...
EDIT: Ok I might just be being blind, but where do you change the SSIDs separately on the SH3?.... |
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
You do it in
Advanced settings > Wireless > Security |
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
Got it, cheers!

Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
Make sure you check download channels if only shows 1 or 2 you need to reboot it as that can effect speeds.

Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
All is good now, wired was fine it was just the wireless.
Decided to just do some proper cabling instead of trying wireless |
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
No problems on my SH3 with wireless, I get the same results as the SH2ac.

Got a nice long CAT6 into my room now anyway so it's irrelevant. Got a switch in there for my TV and PS4, so everything that needs good bandwidth to stream / game has it. |
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
Rather than start another thread....
Are SH3's the standard for all customers now then? Or was I just "lucky" to get one sent out as a quick start package? |
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
I think the top tier is getting them, still not official modem though as it is customer trial.
|
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
Thought so, was surprised to see the white when I opened the box. Kind of wish we'd got the SH2AC cause the rest of our stuff is black. Stands out like a sore thumb :(

VM are certainly running 2 trials, however they are rather good at running trials while simultaneously giving out the hardware in production. Usually you'd run trials with select groups and iron out issues before you start providing the modem to unselected customers who aren't being asked to provide feedback. |
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
ALL NEW 100MB, 152MB and 200MB installations get a SHUB3 as standard now
---------- Post added at 19:33 ---------- Previous post was at 19:30 ---------- Actually i stand corrected... ALL NEW installations get it as standard I got this by email on 18/12/15 so it started roughly around then |

Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
Looks like if your SH2AC goes fits up you only get a SH2AC as a replacement.
|
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
basically...
If you are on legacy kit (Pre-SHUB1) then you will get upgraded to the SHUB2ac. If you have a SHUB1 then you will get a SHUB2 If you have a SHUB2 or SHUB2ac then you keep your current kit |
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
Who the hell is getting 20mbit as a new install?

Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
So who do we feedback issues with the SH3 to if we're not on the trial?
Luckily when I rang up to activate it, the guy i spoke to (sounded Scottish?) was aware of the new hubs, but when I called up last night and spoke to the foreign guys they had no idea the white hubs existed so I gave up. Does anyone know if CS have actually been told / trained on the SH3 or is it just a case of I got through to the "wrong" agent? UPnP doesn't appear to want to work, it's definitely enabled but things that usually work with no config (Plex media server in this case), aren't. I've forwarded the port and it's working fine now but all this sort of stuff "just worked" on the tp-link I was using at my parents' |

To get around any other issues until new firmware is released drop it into modem mode if you have your own router. |
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
Ah right, thanks for that at least I know it's a known issue.
Seems a bit silly to give these out to new customers, with known problems, but not make those customers aware of the known problems! Looking into a new router now, the one I was using was quite old and didn't even provide 5GHz so I'd rather get something a bit more up to date. |
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
I'm on the hub 3 trial and not now whatever they are doing with it lol but I had problems getting it activated and the indian call centre staff didn't have a clue what it was, they kept telling me to reset the modem and look for lights on it that weren't even there. when I tried explaining to them it was a hub 3 on trial from VM they just wrote me off as if I was playing them off or something and kept repeating themselves.
It's been ok so far though |
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
I always hangup if get put through to offshore.
|
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
Not all of Offshore is completely terrible, but stuff like this isn't a surprised, their training is poor and usually given out about 3 months late. They probably genuinely have no clue what the SH3 is.
|
Re: SH3 - Poor WiFi
The guy I spoke to had no idea, even though I told him it was "the new white hub 3" he kept saying "No sir, it is black" I just gave up and got more sense from here anyway.
