UK Soldiers May Face Iraq War Crime Charges
http://news.sky.com/story/1615421/uk...-crime-charges
Whoever comes out with the brainwaves. Need putting onto a boat and sinking it. I have the highest for our brave guys and girls who fight for our country, they put there life on the ground to protect us, against enemies of this country. When you join the Armed services, you go into battle. And then you find out something was wrong with your decision. And you get prosecuted. Bang out of order. Our service personnel face danger, each day they leave there battle stations. They come across a terrorists, what are they suppose to do. Go and shake there hand, then decide what to do. By that decision time you end up dead. Each time they leave there barracks in the UK. Personnel are warned not to wear there uniforms, in case it offends. If this idea comes out, then Prime Minsters must be held accountable for it and face prosecution as well. As it is on there instructions that Service Personnel go into battle:( |
Re: Totally Disgraceful if it happens
Speeding fines for tank drivers.

Re: UK Soldiers May Face Iraq War Crime Charges
They are only doing a job, you can't prosecute them for that.
If anyone its the people in government that make the decision to send people in to these countries. First time I think I've ever agreed with Arthur lol. |
Re: UK Soldiers May Face Iraq War Crime Charges
Its at times like this when you wish the pathetic silent majority of this amazing country would stand up and say NO!
It will happen, |
Re: UK Soldiers May Face Iraq War Crime Charges
Bet the tree hugging libs are loving this.

Re: UK Soldiers May Face Iraq War Crime Charges
What's all the fuss about? If they did their job as they were asked to do, there is not a problem.

Re: UK Soldiers May Face Iraq War Crime Charges
Hope all the lefties are happy when they find out no one wants to be in the armed forces or indeed an armed policeman anymore, due to the very likely worry you will be prosecuted for doing your job.
Look at the police man who is being prosecuted now in London because TPB are trying to appease the ******s from rioting, or the paras from back in 71 who are now being prosecuted for the Bloody Sunday massacre, despite no one not really knowing for sure who did what, and despite the fact the entire Northern Irish terrorist community (who did many many worse things) all being pardoned. These days I quite often wake up and think I'm on planet WTF |
Re: UK Soldiers May Face Iraq War Crime Charges
There will be no problem if it turns out that Iraqi citizens who died under interrogation, like the hotel receptionist did, were killed legally and under the proper rules of engagement.
It is easy to excuse extreme brutality when troops are fighting for their lives and the lives of their comrades. Indeed troops are sometimes deliberately put into such circumstances to unleash their brutality against the enemy. Brutally kill or be brutally killed. We can even leave a little room for moral error in the heat of battle. However, there is no excuse for mortal violence against prisoners away from the actual battle. This breaks the rules of the Geneva Convention and makes us no better than the SS. Our standards must be of the highest order. |
Re: UK Soldiers May Face Iraq War Crime Charges
Follow the rules of engagement and there should be no problems
From the article I read yesterday it appears that there is currently evidence to suggest that murder and torture have taken place therefore investigation and if deemed fit trial/court martial should take place. Just because the Iraqi regime/ISIL were/are complete *******s doesn't give us carte blanche to act as we see fit All so easy to say when you're not in the thick of it though |
Re: UK Soldiers May Face Iraq War Crime Charges
It's a fine line at times these people have to tread. I freely admit I couldn't tread it, so don't attempt to.
Rule of law, sadly, has to be followed. If we ignore it we have no moral grounds to object to anyone else doing it to our lads / ladettes. |
Re: UK Soldiers May Face Iraq War Crime Charges
FYI everyone THIS tree hugging liberal namby pamby isn't OK with this..However if we aren't seen to be doing something then we fall below those standards that we seem to insist the rest of the world should live by.As it is whatever is decided and acted upon won't be enough to satisfy the rest of the universe.

Re: UK Soldiers May Face Iraq War Crime Charges
If it is going to happen then it needs to be done properly. It should be a top down process similar to the Nuremberg Trials, where first the leaders are put on trial before there is any trial of individual servicemen.
It is very easy for us to sit back in our homes casting judgement on soldiers involved in these unfortunate incidents and in the worst cases then some action may need to be taken through the Courts Martial process. However please have some understanding of what some of these soldiers have gone through, seriously traumatised by seeing their mates and colleagues blown up or shot by "the enemy", and put yourself in their situation. I don't know how I would react and suspect many others don't either, the best training in the world will not counter the brutalizing impact that may adversely affect the judgement of some soldiers in these circumstances! |

Individual SS members and concentration camp commanders were following orders to torture and kill prisoners on security or racial grounds. The hierarchy from Hitler down were responsible for giving those orders. Our leaders of the time in 2003, ( The jury is still out on the legality of the 2nd Iraq War), required our generals and their troops to fight a war within modern rules of engagement. If individual troops or officers did not follow the rules then they may be liable for prosecution. The 2nd part of your argument I mostly agree with, but I think the abuses we are talking about are ones that were carried out away from the battle, in interrogation rooms or prisoner cells. |

Sorry but I think a lot of this is down to ambulance chasing lawyers like Phil Shiner looking to make a quick buck.
After all it's not like the people over there are known for telling porkies much is it  (Take a good look at the 'fired bullets' for those not in the know, those bullets are unfired...) Perhaps we have now started THROWING bullets at people now, instead of discharging them, jesus christ WAKE UP If anyone should be prosecuted, I'd suggest the cnuts who sanctioned the war to start with actually... |
