Can't get to Facebook from virgin connection
 

Anyone else having issues getting to Facebook from there Virgin broadband?

Internet is working fine and I can get to Facebook on this device using an alternative internet connection

I can't get to it either, but http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ says it's working, but I guess it's not just me, or everyone ;) was working a couple of hours ago.

It's not a regional thing. I go to my office and it works fine. House and office are less than a mile apart. Must be an internet provider issue

Rats! I now seem to have fallen into this trap.Can get through on my Vodafone phone but VM is a no go.I can get everywhere else though via VM.:erm:

Apparently, this unusual problem is affecting the HSBC website too.

Wonder if there's been some hacking taking place to take down certain sites.

One of the methods that modern day terrorists use is to cause disruption and financial loss via the internet...

Earlier this morning I was having weird problems with certain sites(eg HSBC banking), but by mid-afternoon the problems had gone.

Yup, just think how many problems could be avoided if everyone bought their own proper router. In this one case alone, how many tens of thousands (or even hundreds) coukdnt access fb and how many calks did it generate to India? I am just glad that most of these annoying hiccups remain transparent to us.

Right, because clearly most people with their own proper router don't just leave the WAN to DHCP, which would pull Virgin's DNS anyway.

It's very slow here in Cardiff. At least an hour or so.

I swapped to Google DNS and the problems instantly stopped, so it was a VM DNS problem... again.

exactly dude, exactly. You would have thought everyone would have learnt by now. This is at least the third time that I can remember in the last year or so that there has been a major fault which didn't affect me and each time it turned our to be Virgin's dns servers which were the issue (and in one instance went down completely for several hours).

I never use any ISP's DNS. I trust it as much as the routers/hubs they issue.:D:D:D
