Do you use more than one streaming service?

I'm curious to find out if my assumption is correct that those who use streaming services tend to use more than one provider.

I think (but not sure) posting links to such sites is against forum rules.

That doesn't include Kodi, as that is just a front end for viewing personally owned DVDs. It's links to certain addons to Kodi that facilitate the streaming of pirated content.

True, I can't see this thread lasting long on this forum. Unless we're talking about iplayer, youtube, Netflix, or Amazon, etc only which I doubt.

Personally I don't like streaming, too much hassle even with Kodi and quality / sound is generally pants. I had Netflix for 7 months, but only watched about 2 films because Tivo was just too slow for me to be bothered with it. I now have a Fire Stick with Amazon Prime but the contents apart from new series is pretty poo.

Better off just grabbibg a vpn and spending a couple of quid on hulu instead. At least it is reliable and in HD too.

Re: Do you use more than one streaming service?

I have specified four, which are Netflix, Amazon Prime, Roku and Chromecast, which I think is how you might define it.

However, it should be noted that Roku, for example, gives you access to lots of other streaming services such as Now TV and All4, to name but two out of a heck of a lot more.

Other platforms such as my Smart TV, and even the TIVO, give access to more than one streaming service, so your question really needs to be defined better than this to provide a consistent approach to how those responding to this vote calculate the number of streaming services they use.

My usage is:

Tivo - Netflix, BBC i-Player, ITV Hub, All4, Demand 5, Sky Movies, Virgin Movies, You Tube, BBC News.

Smart TV - Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, BBC i-Player, ITV Hub, You Tube

Roku - Now TV, All4

Chromecast - Pluto TV

Although many more streaming channels are available on these platforms, these are my viewing habits, and I feel that I now have a splendid choice of viewing. So based on that, you could say that I use 12 separate streaming services over four separate platforms.

That's about the clearest summary I can provide!

My assumption was that the question excluded UK channel catch-up streaming services.

Yes, I meant things such as Roku, Now TV etc.

Thanks for the votes everybody. So far it seems that my suspicions are looking to be correct!

Pay for my Netflix account.
Share a Now TV account.
Have access to an Amazon account if needed.
Have an Android M8S Box with Kodi plus numerous add ons.

Re: Do you use more than one streaming service?

Amazon Prime , Netflix , Now TV all on a Roku, one box for all streaming services

techguyone 04-12-2015 19:32

Re: Do you use more than one streaming service?

Kodi with various add ons, various Android apps. Via dedicated Android box plus Chromecast & said apps on phone, Various PVR sites on the PC linked via chromecast to any TV

I can get to see pretty much anything I want to see, on any device in the house.

Netflix and Amazon Instant Video. Netflix is my brothers account, Amazon is mine. We share each others accounts.

Seems like everyone account shares. So many people at my work who use Netflix but its their brothers account, or their sons accounts etc... Crazy stuff.

And then people moan when services put their prices up. Do people no longer think that the right thing to do is to pay for the services that they use?

I was merely responding to Chad's post. It happens in forum discussions.

If prices rise because some people don't pay for the service, then other people may be limited to how many services they can afford to subscribe to. Therefore it does have a bearing on the thread title.

Re: Do you use more than one streaming service?

i have 3 devices Roku, Apple TV & Chromecast.

I have access to Netflix & Now TV. Havent bothered with Amazon Prime yet.

I use a VPN to stream US networks and then use my streaming devices to 'cast' / 'airplay' to my TV's.

I have subscriptions to NHL Center Ice and MLB.TV. Dont bother with NFL Gamepass as Sky Sports meets most of my needs and i am not a big enough fan of NBA to justify more expense.

im on netflix and the wwe network. had amazon it was decent. but i think ill keep netflix over that currently. a lot of people talk about sharing accounts. think thats a pretty good approach until they get a bit more stricter with these things

I can see the point your making but I don't have a problem sharing services with my direct family. If my parents asked to use my Amazon Instant Video account to watch a couple of movies or shows what kind of son would I be if I told them no?

I don't see an issue with people in the same household. that would make sense in my view. But that is not what some people are doing when they are sharing account details.

Has there been any difference to Blinkbox since Tesco sold it?

Do those with more than one different streaming service just plug their sticks into various HDMI sockets and toggle between them with the TV remote? Does it get confusing having lots of remotes for the streaming services on top of the cable box, TV remote etc?

---------- Post added at 19:16 ---------- Previous post was at 19:12 ----------

What happens with streaming services when a programme or film is about to expire?

If you start watching a film, say, at 11.30pm that expires at midnight, does it cut you off or let you watch it until the end?

If the system crashed I imagine that you'd miss the ending, which would be very annoying.

The three main UK streaming services, Netflix, Amazon and Now TV can be covered by one device; certain LG Bluray players, or, just recently, by all accounts, Roko have just added Amazon to their devices which could already access Netflix and Now TV. I personally prefer a combination of a Fire TV and a Now TV Box, even though my LG bluray player would access them all.

The alternative to a whole bunch of remotes, is a universal remote control, such as the Logitech Harmony remotes. These control 8 or 15 devices and some will control the Bluetooth Fire TV. Harmony's that don't have blue tooth functionality can still be used with the Amazon Fire TV by plugging a FLIRC into the USB port of the Fire TV.

Most services give you a heads up when the rights for a show are about to expire.

There's nothing wrong with sharing accounts. If Netflix didn't want you to share then we wouldn't be able to add profiles. If Amazon didn't want people to share then you wouldn't be able to add accounts to your Prime.

Netflix Profiles are so that people in the same household can have separate lists.

its a bit more complicated to store the dvd/blurays you have bought but otherwise it works just as well and saves taking our favorite films with us when we go away ( for the rainy days of our lovely summer ;) )

most films are still hired if you hire for 3 days and if you start watching even at the end of the time it shows it till the end

wauki one is very similar to and i get free films from ee on there too :)

nope just read my TOS no restrictions other that how many screens you can use simultaneously as long as you are not selling on or using it commercially .

I often watch my account at other places on their main tv and until i log the screen off they could watch with out breaking the the TOS as far as i can see

Just one box for all the services - Roku

Re: Do you use more than one streaming service?

oh i missed that bit we have lots of duplication the smart tv's can use most services but the chromecast tends to move around a bit and travels to when my daughter goes out lol the fire stick tends to be in the kitchen or bedroom ( non smart tvs lol ) but the xboxes (360s) and the xbox one also can use most of the services too we have remotes though chromecast and firestick are mostly run from apps

Technically it should be just the household (but that doesn't mean that a household member can't access it in a different location)

However it seems that the services are pretty lax (for various reasons) about enforcing it.

it doesn't mention household it does say i have "To maintain control over the account" then goes on about passwords and account details which if logged in to watch programs are not available to tv unless you reinput password but you would still be able to view as the password is saved for viewing. so as long as i have control over it it seems inside the TOS and i can switch off any screen ( i can use 4 ) from the account console (going to check it hasnt changed latter on my nephews tv but last time i couldnt access the account from the tv without reinputting password )

read article ;) havnt looked at my prime TOS for a while lol

I subscribe to the following: Netflix, Amazon Instant, Now TV Entertainment and Google Play Music.

As for set up I have a Fire TV in the living room and a Android nexus Player in the bedroom with Kodi loaded on both, useful for streaming local content. I also seem to watch a lot of youtube some fascinating content on there tempted to take out a sub for the Screen Junkies network but there is no easy way to watch on my TV so won't until they sort that out.
