How do I upgrade online?

The Virgin media speed upgrade website said that my upgrade from 152mb to 200mb would be ready by the end of November.
Checked today and it says its done and for me to login to my account to activate the upgrade.

Ive logged in but nothing is showing and theres no option to do the upgrade.
Any ideas where I find this?

You should see a banner at the top of My Virgin Media. Which browser are you using? Can you try a different one?

Re: How do I upgrade online?

Im using Chrome. I did delete the banner a few weeks ago.
Just tried internet explorer and the banner is there but it says the upgrade still isnt ready! even thought the specific website check does!.

I went into view my offers and it was there. I did it on the 30th about 9PM and it went live midnight on the 1st. However in my area it was so bad I went back from 200 to 50 as I was getting 20 in the evenings.

Re: How do I upgrade online?

Just be aware that the upgrades available in 'My Offers' are paid increases to new tiers. They are not the in-place tier boosts.

Hi the speed postcode checker said end of nov. I checked on the 1st nov, says your speed boost is ready now. I sign in to my account to upgrade still says almost ready end of nov. !!!!

Correct. Although when I called I was told my speed was going up on 1st Nov with " no additional monthly charge" and then as soon as it went live boom £9 added to the bill.

And I thought scotland was better than Manila. I was clearly wrong.

Anyway..

it is available now if you call up and pay for it. otherwise it's end of November - same for me when i was on 50. 70 end of November. I notice now I have gone back to 50 I no longer get the uplift to 70.

I got an email saying my speed boost is ready, originally end of November, postcode checker says yes, but nothing on My VirginMedia. I called customer services and they said I can't without paying extra a month.

The lady said the postcode checker says yes but her system still says no.

This was from 50 to 70 upgrade in West End Glasgow.

Yes mine did a couple of days ago. I rang up and asked about it and was told that VM had messed up with the upgrades (again) anthat my account didn't show it as available yet. The post code checker now says it will be ready by the end of December as does my account. Usual VM ****** **!

I didn't bother to argue, if they mess me around I will write and complain as I have done several times before over the last 15 years and get a price reduction. It's almost like their giving me amunition to do it.

That's about right it took 2 days for my 50 to 200 upgrade to happen when it was done online.

It took 2 minutes to bring it back to 50 as it was so *****.

I've just done my upgrade 100 to 150mb online and went through no problems, I then got an email saying they are delivering my "new cable" on the 16th for self install, what equipment will I get as Virgin have just swapped my router yesterday for a shub2

imagine it is supposed to be your "new cable modem" because they want everyone on a shub2 or shub2ac but hopefully somebody will look at it and see you have just been given a new one and cancel it.

Have you heard anything since?

I did this yesterday and got an email confirming my order. Signing in to my account today still shows the update is ready as if I had never ordered. Obviously not 48 hours yet but it did seem strange.

Same here. I think it's a big cockup. I also rebooted the SH because i noticed last time it can take 2-3 days for the portal to update after the hit has been sent to change config.

It's probably going to happen tonight. I ordered online for 200 on the 30th of Oct and it went live at midnight on the 1st which was 48 hours nearly.

When I did 50-200 I got something in https://my.virginmedia.com/trackorder/view-orders but right now, like you said it's showing as if I never did it and there is nothing in the order tracker. I'll do it again just to see.

I did it again and once again have a reference number but nothing is showing up. This is odd.

It does seem all very odd. I've just rejoined Virgin after being away for about 4 years so wasn't really sure what to expect from it.

I'll see if anything does happen.

23prince 08-11-2015 11:12

Re: How do I upgrade online?

Well if you have nothing in the Order tracking part then it won't

The are still putting as many people as they can onto a network which does not seem to have been upgraded much. Or that's how it seems from my point of view. I am sure I am wrong and I am sure I will be told so but. 9mbps most evenings is something I wont be told I am wrong about. I know I saw it, I was there when I was looking at it. (screenshots also back me up)

I did manage to go from 50>200 for the extra £12 however it was so dire I got about 9 in the evenings. It's fast at 3am when I need to be sleeping.

Manilla said no - Glasgow said yes it was going through on the website. Manilla told me my area was not ready yet. Maybe for one off shore was right? it was shocking to say the least.

But it's only £12 more for 4x the speed (when it works) so what the hell

jem16 08-11-2015 12:08

Re: How do I upgrade online?

No nothing in the order section.

I'm not that bothered just now having gone from an adsl BB speed of 7mb. I'm consistently getting at least 53mb now so if I have to wait a bit for 70mb I'll manage.

23prince 08-11-2015 12:19

Re: How do I upgrade online?

Well yes it's a massive improvement I agree :) It'll be 70/5 according to the thresholds. I lost my rag and called up and upgraded back to 200. It's very little per month more and i'll just have to download at night to get full speed. it's on about 132 right now but will drop to next to nothing before the night is out before it picks up. It is a backup/res use line after all

Well yes that's well beyond the expected time. It does seem to be the 48 hours is actually when it changes (and the portal changes after the config does) so maybe do a reboot before you call them just to be sure.

Yes this is what I am now concerned about for my area. After 4PM it goes to under 74 and come 9 it's under 20. I can only really use it then from 9am-12pm on a weekday. For the sake of the extra £12.25 a month if 74 is going to be solid then it would be worth having that and then It can actually be used in the evenings. 50 did used to dip to about 40 but it was not very often. It's better to have something stable at 50/70 in the evenings than something superfast in the few hours I am around in the morning but then rubbish when I get home.

Yes. But unless your area is spot on don't get too excited. I got up an hour ago and it was already starting to crawl. It's now 12:05 PM and it's starting to drop. In this area it's as follows.

12pm-3am gets slow and around 9pm it's on it's knees. 3am-11am it's okay and full speed but then it starts to crumble.

The inclusive upgrade for broadband speeds does not restart a minimum term contract.

If you make any other changes alongside the broadband speed change, it will likely be a new contract.

In my case no. For all of March the post code checker said ready now, log on to find details. No details available. Called and web chat both adamant that my area
DE73 is not ready. Now it reads
" Hold on tight
Your speed boost is coming soon…

I would ignore the postcode checker to be honest, it said mine was ready in Nov last year but my account didn't agree...

It seems to me VM are trying as hard as they can to annoy their customers. I actually complained a few months ago about this and got a £10 pm reduction on my BB only service so I now pay 23.25pm for 18 months for 100mbs. I suppose I should be happy at that, but it still racks me off that their free upgrade process is such a diabolical shambles...

Re: How do I upgrade online?

yup, I have said many a time before that they would be better off not saying anything at all and just upgrading users as and when they are ready and it would be a nice surprise. Obviously it would put the PR guys out of business and VM wouldn't be able to willy wave in front of BT. I can only assume that their is a trade off between increased $$$ and **** poor customer service and that the number of new customers gained from advertising new tiers outweighs the number of customers who leave because they are sick of being lied to. You wonder what thick as **** **** works for VM and sorts this out though because they have outdone themselves this time. I thought it was bad before when they released a two year rollout plan and kept putting it back. I thought they had learnt from their mistakes this time though and wanted to go in the other direction and wow their customers when they said that 90% of the country was going to be upgraded before Christmas. I guess they just forgot to mention which Christmas it was going to be :D

Out of bored interest I checked and looked at the 'offers' page for my account.

To upgrade from Talk Weekends to Talk Evenings & Weekends would be the reasonable sum of an extra £41.95 a month! :erm:

Only £41.95 extra eh? Mine said £54.74 extra the other day! I have just rechecked and they've removed it, so they've obviously spotted the error.

The guy above is quite right; an email from VM saying we have just upgraded you from 100 to 150, would be a wonderful surprise. Instead, they treat their existing customers like ****. I have been with them over 15 years now, nothing changes, my letters of complaint are becoming a regular occurrence.

Such is life..
